About Shadow of the Forgotten:

From a quaint and unsuspecting town in northern Maine comes SHADOW OF THE FORGOTTEN, the second book in the Kyndall Family Thrillers, a contemporary romantic suspense series filled with gripping intrigue, riveting romance, and nonstop adventure.

A woman preyed upon by corruption.

Heather York’s investigative career with the U.S. Marshals Service is neither glamorous nor dangerous, but when she’s thrust to the precipice of an unexpected threat, she has no choice but to wonder if she was meant to be collateral damage or the intended victim.

A man who won’t abandon her.

At a luxury lakeside lodge in Maine, Jordan Kyndall’s plans to celebrate the wedding of his college roommate go awry before the happy couple has a chance to say “I do.” Jordan anticipated a good time with old friends. Instead, he stumbles upon a gruesome scene in the picturesque woods of the woman whose lifeless body unexpectedly stirs his protective nature.

An obsession that could destroy them both.

As the threat against them grows and the questions multiply, they’ll have to trust each other—and their feelings—if they’re going to survive.

Review

4 suspenseful stars🌟🌟🌟🌟

This is a romantic suspense that is heavier on the suspense then the romance…. as a fan of the thriller/suspense genre this was not a problem for me at all…. however if you are picking this book up for the romance it really does take a backseat to the thrills….

Jordan and Heather meet at a friends wedding in Maine…. there is an initial strong attraction, but soon after their meeting people start getting killed…. is the true target of the killer really Heather?

This is where my one major problem with the book comes in…. Jordan has known Heather for fewer than 24 hours and yet he is willing to risk the life of himself and his family for her…. really? I mean Jordan seems like a great guy and his family is awesome, but this was slightly implausible to me….. however this isn’t necessarily all that uncommon in books, so I decided to go with it….

So now Heather is in danger and Jordan is determined to protect her at all costs…. but why is this killer so fascinated with her, is it related to her job? And if so who is behind it? There were some definite intense moments in this book, and really towards the end I could not wait to find out what was really going on….. and as an avid psychological thriller reader of course I was twisting it a little more than it needed to be twisted, but the ending was interesting and satisfying…..

My favorite part about this book was the relationship between Jordan and his siblings… loved how there they were for one another….. would absolutely read another story in this series…. especially if it were about Owen… would like to know more about him….

*** thank you to the author for gifting me with a copy of this book ***

Prepare to be Twisted,

Synopsis

There’s blossom in the trees and daffodils as far as the eye can see. Maddie is looking forward to a fresh start in the countryside, but there’s just one little problem…

Following a scandal at her high-flying PR agency, twenty-six-year-old Maddie flees London to help promote what she thinks is going to be a luxurious holiday retreat in the countryside. Everything is riding on her making a success of this new job…

Yet when she arrives, Maddie is horrified to find a rundown old farm in a terrible state. The brooding and secretive owner, Seth, spent all his money on leasing the land when he fell in love with the beautiful, dishevelled farm cottages and the very romantic story behind them.

When Maddie discovers an old painting by the original owner’s wife, she unlocks the secret of the farm’s history and quickly realises she must start getting her hands dirty if this very special place is going to have any chance of survival. As she and Seth begin working together, the stunning view from the top of the hill is not the only thing that’s leaving her breathless…

After weeks of hard work the dream looks like it might become a reality, until a secret from Maddie’s past threatens to snatch it all away again. Can Maddie find a way to save the business and herself? Will she finally find a place to keep her heart within the crumbling walls of the little cottage on the hill?

Review

Well now I want to go visit this little cottage on the hill, it certainly was charming! This book was a fun easy read but definitely light on the romance…..

The characters in this book were people you’d want to meet, maybe when on vacation at this little cottage…. however as likable as they were, they weren’t as well developed as I would have liked…. especially Seth and Maddie the two main characters…. the book starts out rather abruptly almost like the prologue was left out…. I just would’ve appreciated more of a backstory on both of them….

Maddie fled her high-pressure London job and headed to the country to help restore Joy’s Acre…. Seth is the owner and Maddie and he have very different ideas for the renovation…. it was fun watching these two along with Clara, Trixie, and Thomas, reach some agreement on the renovation…. and I learned a lot about roof Thatching!(Something I hope I never need to put into practice)

This was a fun easy read perfect for a little getaway….

*** i’d like to thank the publisher and Net Galley for a copy of this book ***

Synopsis

The first time I met him, his sexy British accent almost talked me into giving him my number on the spot. The second time, he nearly charmed the panties off me with his wit. Then I learned he’s the key to success in my new job in Paris. The man who tempts me into fling-worthy dirty daydreams has turned out to be my personal translator, and his accent is the hottest thing I’ve ever heard.
My mantra is simple — Don’t mix business with pleasure. I do my best to resist him as he teaches me how to converse with my co-workers, navigate the metro and order the perfect bottle of wine at dinner. But I also figure out how to tell the charming and clever man what I most want to say — that I want him to take me back to his flat — tonight.
Except there’s a catch…

One more assignment before I take off on my big adventure…

And it involves the toughest work ever — resisting the fetching American woman I spend all my days with. But you know what they say about best intentions. Soon, we’re spending our nights tangled together, and I don’t want to let her go. The trouble is, my wanderlust is calling to me, and before we know it I’ll be traveling the globe to fulfill a promise I made long ago.

What could possibly go wrong with falling in love in Paris? Nothing…unless one of you is leaving.

Review

When you read a Lauren Blakely book you always know that you are going to get a good story.

This one was no exception, I love her characters that she writes, especially her females as she makes them so likable.

I love the fact that Lauren released this book on audio first, it just shows how far audios have come :o)

This was a sweet love story between Joy and Griffin.

Meet Joy

Joy starts a brand new job in a new country, she has moved to Paris and cannot wait, the only thing is she doesn’t know any French and has to rely on a translator to help her.

June has a passion for smells, and luckily bags herself her dream job working for a fragrance company.

June is a very likable character, she doesn’t come across as one of these blushing “oh my” women that you read about sometimes, nope she’s an independent woman and she can do it all on her own thank you very much!

Meet Griffin

Griffin is a Brit, working in Paris as a translator.

He is planning to leave in 1 month’s time and travel somewhere else, he doesn’t like to stay in one place for too long, he has a strong impulse to travel and explore the world (he has a Wanderlust).

He has nearly packed all of his bags ready for his big trip, he just has one more job to do, he is asked to help as a translator for a new person starting a job in a fragrance company.

*********

Ms Blakely has managed to catch the beauty and essence of Paris, the sights and scents of the air were there when I closed my eyes and listened to Grace Grant and Richard Armitage telling me this wonderful romance story.

This is a slow burner guys, friends to lovers, the best kind, prepare to be swooned!

Many thanks to the Author and the “Lovely Listeners” for my copy.

Enjoy the Burn,

Vicci
