5 Stunning Stars🌟 Sadie by Courtney Summers @courtney_s @WednesdayBooks #BookReview

Happy Sunday book lovers!

I have a real treat for you today! Grill to share my review for this stunning and powerful book! 💕💕

Sadie by Courtney Summers

My Thoughts

Stunning! Powerful! Uncomfortable!

WOW! Courtney Summers…. you pulled out my heart, ran it over a few times, and put it back, never to be the same again! This book was so ugly and yet so beautiful… so difficult and yet so easy… so heartbreaking and yet so hopeful… A book that will stay with you long after you finish reading the last page…. sadie is a girl that will not allow you to ever forget her! She is your sister, she is your daughter, she is your best friend, she is you!

Sadie is 19 and has not had the easiest of lives… she never knew her father and her mother abandoned her leaving her to take care of her younger sister Mattie… after Mattie is murdered Sadie is devastated and determined… determined to find and kill the man who killed her sister, because her sister was her whole world… told in alternating narratives from Sadie in the first person on her quest to find the man who killed her sister… and also from West McCray A radio personality recording an investigative podcast on the disappearance of Sadie…. I thought this was a very impactful way to structure the story…. we got the real and raw look into the mind of Sadie along with a look at how others saw her through West’s investigation…. and what we learned from this was that Sadie was an edgy, unforgettable damaged soul with a big heart…

Sadie’s story is riveting, but not easy to digest… this book took me a little longer to read then most, it took me some time to internalize some things… and sometimes I needed to just put the book down and take a few breaths…. sadie broke my heart and I just wanted to reach through those pages give her a big hug and let her know there was someone out there that did care….

Absolutely recommend! This is a hyped book that deserves every bit of the hype it is getting!

About the Book

Sadie hasn’t had an easy life. Growing up on her own, she’s been raising her sister Mattie in an isolated small town, trying her best to provide a normal life and keep their heads above water.

But when Mattie is found dead, Sadie’s entire world crumbles. After a somewhat botched police investigation, Sadie is determined to bring her sister’s killer to justice and hits the road following a few meagre clues to find him.

When West McCray—a radio personality working on a segment about small, forgotten towns in America—overhears Sadie’s story at a local gas station, he becomes obsessed with finding the missing girl. He starts his own podcast as he tracks Sadie’s journey, trying to figure out what happened, hoping to find her before it’s too late.

Sleeping Through War by Jackie Carreira @matadorbooks @rararesources #BookReview

Happy Sunday all! Hope you’re having a lovely weekend!

Delighted to be on the blog tour and share with you my review for this book that was both beautiful and eye-opening. Many thanks to Rachel for my invitation and to Jackie Carreira for her wonderful stories!💕

Sleeping Through War

It is May 1968. Students are rioting, civil rights are being fought and died for, nuclear bombs are being tested, and war is raging in Vietnam. For three ordinary women in Lisbon, London and Washington life must go on as usual. For them, just to survive is an act of courage. How much has really changed in 50 years?

My Thoughts

Poignant! Tumultuous! Important!

1968: both Martin Luther King and Robert F Kennedy are assassinated, Man orbits the moon for the first time, and the Vietnam war rages on… categorized as one of the most tumultuous years in our history… and as an American who was not born until the last two months of the 60s, I’ve never given any thought to the fact that other countries had things going on during this decade… in my defense when we have studied European history in school we generally never made it to the 20th century, so needless to say this book was definitely eye-opening…. this book not only taught me things about history, but also some things about myself…. this book is all about the impact war and political unrest as well as civil unrest have on all of us…Three women living in three different countries, with one thing in common the turbulent times of 1968…Rose has just moved to London from St. Lucia, where she is a care nurse… unfortunately she has to deal with both subtle and overt racism on a daily basis, and she handles it with grace and intelligence… Amalia is a young widowed mother living in Lisbon Portugal, determined to give her young beloved son a good life… she is willing to do whatever it takes… mrs. Johnson is a mother as well, but her son is fighting in the Vietnam war and we get a glimpse of her life in Washington DC through her letters written to her son…. all three of these women’s stories tugged at my heart strings and resonated with me in different ways… as a woman, as a mother, and as a human…

This is a beautifully told masterfully crafted story of courage and love… these women’s characters were so well developed I felt as though I knew them by the end of the book… I also really appreciated the news snippets sprinkled throughout the story it gave everything a sense of authenticity… absolutely recommend this book it will make you look at the late 1960s from a different angle…
