Rob Ashman - Suspended Retribution_cover

Alex Jarrod is a war veteran. When a flesh-eating parasite destroys his face, he returns from Afghanistan with a head full of nightmares. His world crumbles around him until he realises there is work to be done. Another war to fight.

DI Rosalind Kray has her hopes pinned on becoming the new DCI after tracking down another serial killer, but those in charge have other ideas.

After a small-time crook is killed in a hit and run and a serial burglar is brutally murdered, Kray suspects a vigilante is at work. But her bosses disregard her theory – until they discover a third victim.

Once again Kray finds herself on the trail of a serial killer but this one is different. This one lives in his own private war zone.

With her bosses on her heels Kray has her work cut out and the body count is rising.

But he’s not going to stop until the mission is complete … and Kray’s not going to stop until she finds him.

My Thoughts

Fascinating! Gripping! Insightful!

This is the third book in this dark and addictive series… this book had a bit of a different feel to it, wasn’t quite as gory, but still was captivating from first page to last…. what I love most about this series is getting into the mind of the killer… whether the motivation or justification for the killing is revenge as in the previous book or justice as in this book, it is simply fascinating to see into the psyche of a killer….

Rosalind Kray is back on the case, and a few steps ahead of everyone else… we really got a better look into who Rosalind truly is… we even got a bit of humor and perhaps even a love interest? She still drinks a little too much, is a little defensive, but I feel as though I got a better sense of who she is… I also really enjoyed watching her physically and mentally approach the investigation in this book…

Alex the killer in this book is disturbed and yet a sympathetic character… suffering from PTSD after serving in Afghanistan we really got a real glimpse into what made this man into a monster…. we got a look into the atrocities of war in Afghanistan, it was heartbreaking, but is killing ever justified? Can one man act as judge, jury, and executioner? This really puts you in an uncomfortable and confusing position when you don’t hate the bad guy quite the contrary you have compassion for him…

A well-crafted third installment in this intriguing series that can absolutely be read as a standalone… absolutely recommend to all crime thriller lovers this is an absolute must read series!

*** many thanks to Bloodhound Books for my copy of this book ***

Rob is married to Karen with two grown up daughters. He is originally from South Wales and after moving around with work settled in North Lincolnshire where he’s spent the last twenty-two years.
Like all good welsh valley boys Rob worked for the National Coal Board after leaving school at sixteen and went to University at the tender age of twenty-three when the pit closures began to bite. Since then he’s worked in a variety of manufacturing and consulting roles both in the UK and abroad.
It took Rob twenty-four years to write his first book. He only became serious about writing it when his dad got cancer. It was an aggressive illness and Rob gave up work for three months to look after him and his mum. Writing Those That Remain became his coping mechanism. After he wrote the book his family encouraged him to continue, so not being one for half measures, Rob got himself made redundant, went self-employed so he could devote more time to writing and four years later the Mechanic Trilogy is the result.
When he is not writing, Rob is a frustrated chef with a liking for beer and prosecco, and is known for occasional outbreaks of dancing.
Rob published the Mechanic Trilogy with Bloodhound Books in 2017 and will be releasing three new books during 2018. These are titled: Faceless, This Little Piggy and Suspended Retribution.

Oddest Little_BOOK SHOPThe Oddest Little Book Shop

My Thoughts

Delightful! Charming! A Whole Lot of FUN!

The “Oddest Little” series is the perfect little escape to brighten any day! Each book has its own unique set of characters with an entirely different story, but they all share The same charm and humor! Each book will warm your heart and leave you with a smile on your face and an overwhelming desire to visit Cornwall!

📚”Oddest Little Book Shop”

This might be my favorite of the bunch, although it is hard to choose a favorite… this was a sweet second chance love story with two wonderful main characters…. Daisy is a big TV star who has returned home to housesit her parents house and lick her wounds after a bad break up… Daisy has been gone for 15 years so when she runs into her old first love Nick she doesn’t know what to think or feel…. and of course she first runs into him in a very precarious position in the nude…. I loved the banter between Daisy and Nick it was sweet and sassy and a little biting at times… wasn’t sure how this all was going to turn out, but the conclusion was perfect and more than satisfying!

I have to add I love the fact that daisies ex-boyfriend‘s name was Ben Dover!😂

🍫”Oddest Little Chocolate Shop”

Clementine, chocolate, a cat, and chemistry all tied up in a perfect little package! This was a scrumptious story all about good old Clementine trying to save her beloved chocolate shop… add in a sexy French chocolatier and this book is the perfect recipe for a lovely afternoon of reading! Clementine is the kind of character you can’t help but cheer for… another fabulous installment in this fun series, this book was in a word delicious!

💕”Oddest Little Romance”

This was another second chance romance with a bit of a twist… Isabel has everything planned out, so what if she is marrying a man she barely knows, it is about time for her to get married… so what happens when she receives an anonymous letter asking her to marry him? Who is this mystery man? And what is he doing spoiling her perfect plans? There were so many crazy mishaps in this book I was smiling the entire time! And can I just say Luis was so over-the-top and I probably wouldn’t like him in real life, but he was a fabulous character! Another homerun in this fabulous series!

Beth Good has fast become one of my favorite authors! This series was so enchanting, I just adored it! There are several Christmas books in the series that I might have purchased today and will be reading and reviewing in December, if I can wait that long! I also got a sneak peek at Miss Good’s full length book coming out later this year, and I am intrigued!

Do yourself a favor pick up one of these delightful Novellas I can guarantee it will brighten up your day!

The locals say the tea rooms are cursed. For Pansy was cruelly jilted by her lover, and walked out into the ocean, never to return.

Charlie dismisses the ‘curse’ as superstitious nonsense, but by the end of the first day, her world is in tatters, and she’s not even sure the tea rooms can open again.

Jane Holland Beth Good credit Anna Rybacka-1Author Bio –

Born and raised in Essex, England, Beth Good was whisked away to an island tax haven at the age of eleven to attend an exclusive public school and rub shoulders with the rich and famous. Sadly, she never became rich or famous herself, so had to settle for infamy as a writer of dubious novels. She writes under several different names, mainly to avoid confusing her readers – and herself! As Beth Good she writes romantic comedy and feel-good fiction. She also writes thrillers as Jane Holland, historicals as Victoria Lamb and Elizabeth Moss, and feel-good fiction as Hannah Coates.

Beth currently lives in the West Country where she spends a great deal of time thinking romantic thoughts while staring out of her window at sheep. (These two actions are unrelated.)

You can find her most days on Twitter as @BethGoodWriter where she occasionally indulges in pointless banter about chocolate making and the Great British Bake Off. Due to a basic inability to say no, she has too many children and not enough money, which means she needs as many readers as she can get.

Another Rebecca by Tracey Scott-Townsend @authortrace @annecater #BookReview #RandomThingsTours

TGIF book friends!

Delighted to share with you today my review for this dark domestic drama! Many thanks to Anne Cater for my invitation to the blog tour and to Tracy Scott-Townsend for her wonderful words!💛🧡

Another Rebecca Graphic 3

A gripping psychological family drama about Rebecca Grey, a sensitive girl who’s spent her childhood caring for her alcoholic mother, Bex. They lurch from one poverty-stricken situation to another until Rebecca is hospitalised with exhaustion. While there, she has an illness-triggered hallucination which entangles her deeper than ever into her mother’s psyche. As an art student, Rebecca can’t understand why she is repeatedly impelled to paint a white horse in a blue landscape. And then there is the boy with yellow hair who she glimpses from the corner of her eye.

Bex’s life was frozen by a shocking tragedy when she was nineteen. Her ‘great grief’ caused her to make a decision which nobody must ever find out about. Rebecca has been implicated in her mother’s lies since the moment of her birth, a fact that her father, Jack, has no inkling of.

As Rebecca gets to know her father’s new family, the gap between her and her mother widens. The mystery of Bex’s dark past comes into focus when an old woman she has never met contacts Rebecca, claiming to be her grandmother.

The thunder of hooves is getting closer for both Rebecca and Bex and the blond-haired boy is more and more often in Rebecca’s dreams. Can Bex continue to keep Rebecca in the dark about the circumstances of her birth, or will the final twist in her tail set Rebecca free to make a new life of her own?

Adapted from a short story written by the author when she was an art student, Another Rebecca was inspired by the painting There is no Night by Jack B. Yeats.

My Thoughts

This was a poetically told clever story that was absolutely nothing like I had anticipated… this really was the story of Rebecca and her mother “the other Rebecca, “ Becks… it is about the unfortunate tragic truth of being raised by an alcoholic parent… this part of the story hits very close to home, my children unfortunately have an alcoholic father and it is not an easy road…. I was left to pick up the pieces and still carry a tremendous amount of guilt about all of this, therefore I really have very little sympathy for alcoholics… and I have to admit I spent a great deal of this book disliking Rebecca’s mother tremendously… this is not to say I did not like the story… I thought it was gritty, real, and raw when it came to the portrayal of an alcoholic, very well done…. I also like the fact that this book was based on a short story written by the author about a painting…. The writing style had an artistic feel to it almost poetic….

The first few chapters of this book were a bit convoluted, I had a hard time getting my footing in this book… but once I got used to the style it was quite enjoyable… told in three alternating points of view Rebecca, her mother, and her father Jack… rebecca’s voice was so haunting… what was up with the white horse and the boy with the yellow hair?

This book is a slow burn that you need to take your time with two thoroughly grasp…. I found it to be beautiful, heartbreaking, and dark… A compelling read I won’t soon forget!
