Happy Monday everybody!
Delighted to be part of the blog tour for this debut! A huge thank you to Rachel for my invitation and to Sarahlyn Bruck for her wonderful story!💛
Pam Wheeler checked every box: Happy marriage? Check. Fantastic kid? Check. Booming career? Check.
So when her husband dies in a freak accident and their DIY empire goes on life support, Pam must fix the relationship with her troubled and grief-stricken daughter and save the family business.
Pam and Nate were a couple who just couldn’t get away from each other, sharing not only their bed, but also a successful lifestyle empire as DIY home renovators, bloggers, podcasters, and co-authors.
When Nate dies in a freak accident, Pam becomes a 44-year-old widow, at once too young and too old—too young to be thrust into widowhood and too old to rejoin the dating pool.
Now the single mother of a headstrong and grief-stricken teenager, Pam’s life becomes a juggling act between dealing with her loss and learning how to parent by herself. On top of all that she also must reinvent herself or lose the empire that she and Nate had built so carefully.
It is time for Pam to seize the opportunity to step up as a mother, come out from behind Nate’s shadow, and rise as the sole face of the Designer You brand, and maybe, possibly, hopefully, find love again.
A raw and reel look at grief…
This was a book with very heavy subject matter that did not weigh you down…. losing a family member is tough and the impact on the family is intense… and know two families or two family members handle the situation the same… this book was about Pam and her daughter Grace navigating life after losing their husband/father Nate…
Nate and Pam were man and wife as well as business partners… they ran an extremely successful DIY business including book deals and blog…. after the death of Nate Pam had to step up not only in the business, but also at home with her daughter Grace… I had tremendous empathy for Pam, she was very insecure as to how to run things after the death of her husband… I also was tremendously frustrated with Pam and how she handled things with her daughter Grace… Grace, now I do realize the girl lost her father, but well I really wanted to reach through the pages and…. The girl was a straight up brat! And Pam just made the situation worse…. it truly is hard to elicit sympathy for someone who acts like that, she was a tough character!
A realistic look a grief… the good… the bad… and the ugly… OK there wasn’t much good, although towards the end Grace and Pam did start to mend their relationship… this book I’m guessing has a sequel? The ending was quite abrupt…. and some things were left unfinished… and some things tied up a little too quickly and neatly for my liking
And engaging story that kept it real! Well structured, beautifully told, I sure hope there is a follow up…
