The Winter Sister by Megan Collins @ImMeganCollins @AtriaBooks #bookreview #audiobook #thewintersister

Happy Thursday bibliophiles!

Excited to share with you my review for this chilling thriller! Another fabulous debut!❄️

  • The Winter Sister

  • By: Megan Collins
  • Narrated by: Rebekkah Ross
  • Length: 10 hrs and 30 mins
  • Unabridged Audiobook
  • Release date: 02-05-19
  • Language: English
  • Publisher: Simon & Schuster Audio

My Thoughts

A beautifully told story packed with secrets, grief, and guilt!

Megan Collins has crafted an entertaining tale with an effortless flow. Another exquisite debut, this year seems to be oozing with amazing debuts!

Sylvie has come back home after being gone for many years to take care of her estranged mother who is suffering from cancer. Over a decade ago Sylvie’s older sister Persephone went missing only to be found a few days later dead in a pile of snow. The killer is never found, Sylvie is buried in grief, and her mother Annie retreats into a world of darkness. Now Sylvie is back home forced to face her past, her guilt, her secrets, and the man she is convinced killed her sister. What happened all those years ago? Will the truth set Sylvie free? Will it bring her mother out of the darkness? So many secrets so long buried what will happen when they all come to light? Well you will need to read this book to find all this out!

You may have read this trope before, however I thought it was extremely well executed in this story. Sylvie is an incredibly likable and engaging character someone you could see yourself as friends with. The twists and reveals were cleverly done with the perfect amount of clues sprinkled throughout the story. The ending was unquestionably fraught with tension. I was absolutely glued to those pages, needing to know what the story behind everything was, and I truly was almost more interested in Sylvie’ss mom’s backstory then the murder. There was also a nice dose of romance in this book a little unexpected and a little unsettling. Cannot wait to see what Megan Collins has in store for us next, absolutely recommend!

🎧🎧🎧 Rebecca Ross narrates this book bringing the perfect voice to Sylvie. Rebecca Ross is such an amazing narrator she really breathes life into the books she narrates. If you have not listen to a book narrated by her this is a good place to start! Just saying!

🎵🎵🎵Song Running Through My Head

Hello?
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me
Is there anyone at home?
Come on, now
I hear you’re feeling down
Well I can ease your pain
Get you on your feet again
Relax
I’ll need some information first
Just the basic facts
Can you show me where it hurts?
There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship’s smoke on the horizon
You are the only coming through in waves
Your lips move but I can’t hear what you’re saying
When I was a child I had a fever
My hands felt just like two balloons
Now I’ve got that feeling once again
I can’t explain you would not understand
This is not how I am
I have become comfortably numb
I have become comfortably numb
Okay
Just a little pinprick
There’ll be no more
But you may feel a little sick
Can you stand up?
I do…

About the Book

Publisher’s Summary

In this spellbinding and suspenseful debut, a young woman haunted by the past returns home to care for her ailing mother and begins to dig deeper into her sister’s unsolved murder.
Sixteen years ago, Sylvie’s sister, Persephone, never came home. Out too late with the boyfriend she was forbidden to see, Persephone was missing for three days before her body was found – and years later, her murder remains unsolved.
In the present day, Sylvie returns home to care for her estranged mother, Annie, as she undergoes treatment for cancer. Prone to unexplained “Dark Days” even before Persephone’s death, Annie’s once-close bond with Sylvie dissolved in the weeks after their loss, making for an uncomfortable reunion all these years later. Worse, Persephone’s former boyfriend, Ben, is now a nurse at the cancer center where Annie is being treated. Sylvie’s always believed Ben was responsible for the murder – but she carries her own guilt about that night, guilt that traps her in the past while the world goes on around her.
As she navigates the complicated relationship with her mother, Sylvie begins to uncover the secrets that fill their house – and what really happened the night Persephone died. As it turns out, the truth will set you free, once you can bear to look at it.
The Winter Sister is a mesmerizing portrayal of the complex bond between sisters, between mothers and daughters alike, and forces us to ask ourselves – how well do we know the people we love most?

The Flower Girls by Alice Clark-Platts @aclarkplatts @EmiliaFox @audibleuk @BloomsburyRaven #Thriller #Mystery #AudiobookReview

The sun is finally shining here in the gloomy UK, I’m not sure how long it is going to last, but my windows are all open, and I can hang my washing on the line Wahoo!

I get so excited about the most ridiculous things 😂

I am super happy to bring you my review of this fab little thriller.

Why did I pick it up? – I received a paper copy of this last year, my first unsolicited paperback, I was so excited lol, but because I am an audio girl I patiently waited for this one to be released, and then grabbed it as soon as I could.

My Thoughts

This one is a bit of a slow burner, it starts off at a steady pace, but once it gets it’s heels in, it’s a race to the finish line, and I think a photo finish is just what it deserves!

1997 – Laurel and Primrose (Rosie for short) are sisters, Laurel is 10 and Rosie is 6, they are out playing in the park when they entice a small toddler to play down the canal path with them.

The body of that toddler is later discovered brutally murdered and the 2 girls dubbed The Flower Girls in court are arrested, unfortunately Rosie is too young to be prosecuted, so Laurel stands trial for murder.

Rosie and her parents are given new identities because of the media backlash and they move far away.

Laurel serves her time, and 19 years later is up for parole, but the family of the murdered toddler have strong objections.

Meanwhile, Hazel and her boyfriend are at a fancy hotel celebrating her 25th Birthday when a little 5 year old girl goes missing.

The similarities between Hazel and the lesser known Rosie are noticed.

Could she be the missing Flower Girl?

Could she be responsible for the missing girl?

🎧🎧 – Narrated by Emilia Fox who is a regular on TV in the UK in things like Silent Witness.

Emilia did an outstanding job narrating this one, I was very impressed with her narration skills, and will certainly not hesitate in buying another book that he has narrated again.

If you are familiar with the news in the UK, then you may remember the murder of James Bulger, this was the first thing that popped into my head while reading this, I remember it being on every TV channel, and in every newspaper when I went into the shops, so I think that the media portrayal in this book was very well done.

**Thank you to Bloomsbury Raven and the author for sending me a copy of the book

California Girls by Susan Nallery @SusanMallery @HarlequinBooks @HarperAudio #bookreview #audiobook #californiagirls

Happy hump day book lovers!

Excited to share with you my review for this wonderful story set in my home state of California!Fun fact this has been the coldest February since 1962 here in Southern California, I’m sure the rest of you would think it was warm, but I am not used to this at all!🥶

  • California Girls

  • By: Susan Mallery
  • Narrated by: Tanya Eby
  • Length: 10 hrs and 27 mins
  • Unabridged Audiobook
  • Release date: 02-26-19
  • Language: English
  • Publisher: Harlequin Audio

My Thoughts

Sunshine, Sisters, and second chances!

A fabulous story filled with fun and drama. Susan Mallery has crafted a brilliant story that will make you laugh, cry, and want to throw things! Three very different sisters faced with some major life choices, but side by side by side they can get through anything! Whenever I read a book about sisters I always get a little jealous, it is a relationship that I myself don’t have, but I can still experience it through books.

This book begins with one bad weekend, all three of the sisters get dumped. Finola hosts a television morning show. Her husband informs her right before she’s about to go on air that he is having an affair, now that’s some timing right? What a great guy! Ali is consumed with planning her wedding that is until her fiancé‘s brother shows up to let her know that her fiancé is too much of a wuss to tell her he’s calling off the wedding. Another great guy! Zennie Who is pretty content being single is dumped by a guy she just recently started dating. His reason? He realizes that she’s not all that into him and she isn’t really looking for a relationship. OK fair enough, he actually might be a good guy. After this weekend the sisters are left to pick up the pieces of their lives and are also face with some unusual unique and life altering choices.

The story was told with charm and heart, and I really loved the humor sprinkled throughout. The serious subject matter of infidelity and surrogacy was handled with a compassionate yet realistic hand. The sisters were all very likable, very relatable, and at times very frustrating. I loved the sister bond as well as the relationship the girls had with their mother. Ali was probably my favorite sister and I was so invested in her happily ever after. I am a sucker for a good second chance story and this one was fab! Definitely recommend!

🎧🎧🎧 Tanya Ebi, did a wonderful job with the narration she gave each sister their own unique voice. She also did a really good male voice, seriously there were times I forgot it was a woman speaking. Another fabulous audiobook experience!

About the Book

Publisher’s Summary

The California sunshine’s not quite so bright for three sisters who get dumped in the same week….
Finola, a popular LA morning-show host, is famously upbeat until she’s blindsided on live TV by the news that her husband is sleeping with a young pop sensation who has set their affair to music. While avoiding the tabloids and pretending she’s
just fine, she’s crumbling inside, desperate for him to come to his senses and for life to go back to normal.
Zennie’s breakup is no big loss. Although the world insists she pair up, she’d rather be surfing. So agreeing to be the surrogate for her best friend is a no-brainer – after all, she has an available womb and no other attachments to worry about. Except…when everyone else, including her big sister, thinks she’s making a huge mistake, being pregnant is a lot lonelier – and more complicated – than she imagined.
Never the tallest, thinnest, or prettiest sister, Ali is used to being overlooked, but when her fiancé sends his disapproving brother to call off the wedding, it’s a new low. And yet Daniel continues to turn up “for support”, making Ali wonder if maybe – for once – someone sees her in a way no one ever has.
But side by side by side, these sisters will start over and rebuild their lives with all the affection, charm, and laugh-out-loud humor that is classic Susan Mallery.

Golden Child by Claire Adam @Claire_Trini @HogarthBooks #bookreview #audiobook #goldenchild

Happy Tuesday book lovers!

Excited to share with you today my review for this book that completely captivated me! This was a story that I had the pleasure of reading with both my book Bestie Jennifer and my mom. I have included a brief review from my mom as well as a link to Jennifer’s blog, be sure to check out their thoughts as well!🌴

Golden Child

  • A Novel
  • By: Claire Adam
  • Narrated by: Obi Abili
  • Length: 7 hrs and 8 mins
  • Unabridged Audiobook
  • Release date: 01-29-19
  • Language: English
  • Publisher: Random House Audio

My Thoughts

A beautiful and unsettling tale alive with culture!

Claire Adam’s debut is a story that will transport you to 1980s Trinidad with its descriptive writing. I found the tropical setting of Trinidad to be unique and fascinating. The juxtaposition of the beauty and corruption was simultaneously disconcerting and alluring. A Book that I believe will stay with me for a long time, a book that asks many questions and begs to be discussed. I was so grateful that I had both my mom and my good friend Jennifer to talk about this book with after I finished. There are some heartbreaking decisions made in this book, but I believe the difference in culture and time had something to do with some tough choices. I strongly encourage you to fine one of your best reading buddies and read this mesmerizing book!

1980s Trinidad a family of modest means just trying to survive. Clyde the father works long hours at a petroleum company doing his absolute best to support his family. Joy the mother stays home and takes care of her family, twin boys Peter and Paul. Peter is the golden child not just smart but a genius. Paul was born with the cord around his neck depriving him of oxygen and ultimately leading to a learning disability. Joy did what she could to make sure the boys were treated equally, something that Clyde struggled with. Cultural differences and an ill-equipped school system lead to Paul being treated poorly, something that was hard to read. The family is ultimately face with a heart wrenching decision with no good answers. The other people surrounding the family as well as Trinidad itself really lend a lot of conflict to this story. The extended family does not always have the best of intentions and they are connected to some pretty shady people. The corruption and crime of Trinidad also is a huge factor in this story.

I was completely swept away by this compelling story. The characters were so well drawn and colorful. The storyline was very thought-provoking and evoked many emotions. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute I spend with this family on this island, even though at times it was extremely uncomfortable and distressful. A powerful story I won’t soon forget, I absolutely recommend!

🎧🎧🎧 this was one stunning audiobook that absolutely further immersed me in the story! Obi Abili brought so much island flavor to the narration with his melodic island accent. Seriously I could listen to him talk all day long!

🎵🎵🎵 Song Running Through My Head

One love, one heart
Let’s get together and feel all right
As it was in the beginning
So shall it be in the end
Let’s get together and feel all right
Let them all pass all their dirty remarks (one love)
There is one question I’d really like to ask (one heart)
Is there a place for the hopeless sinner
Who has hurt all mankind just to save his own?
Believe me
One love, one heart
Let’s get together and feel all right
As it was in the beginning
So shall it be in the end
One love, one heart
Let’s get together and feel all right
Let’s get…

*** A huge thank you too SJP for Hogarth for my copy of this book ***

My Mom’s Thoughts

GOLDEN CHILD is one of the best books I have read in the last two or three years with its unique setting, unique characters, and unique story.  From the first page I was transported along the roads of Trinidad with a microcosm of intriguing characters.  The theme of roads taken or not taken by choice or by chance seemed to drive the plot, leading to a rich discussion and bringing to mind Robert Frost’s poem “The Road Not Taken”.

Jennifer @ Tarheel Reader

Publisher’s Summary

A new novel from Sarah Jessica Parker’s imprint, SJP for Hogarth: a deeply affecting debut novel set in Trinidad, following the lives of a family as they navigate impossible choices about scarcity, loyalty, and love.
Golden Child is a stunning novel written with force and beauty. Though true to herself, Adam’s work stands tall beside icons of her tradition like V.S. Naipaul.” (Jennifer Clement, author of Gun Love)
Rural Trinidad: a brick house on stilts surrounded by bush; a family, quietly surviving, just trying to live a decent life.
Clyde, the father, works long, exhausting shifts at the petroleum plant in southern Trinidad; Joy, his wife, looks after the home. Their two sons, 13 years old, wake early every morning to travel to the capital, Port of Spain, for school. They are twins but nothing alike: Paul has always been considered odd, while Peter is widely believed to be a genius, destined for greatness.
When Paul goes walking in the bush one afternoon and doesn’t come home, Clyde is forced to go looking for him, this child who has caused him endless trouble already and who he has never really understood. And as the hours turn to days, and Clyde begins to understand Paul’s fate, his world shatters – leaving him faced with a decision no parent should ever have to make.
Like the Trinidadian landscape itself,
Golden Child is both beautiful and unsettling; a resoundingly human story of aspiration, betrayal, and love.

The Woman in the Lake by Nicola Cornick @HarlequinBooks @HarperAudio #bookreview #audiobook #thewomaninthelake

Happy Monday bibliophiles!

Excited to share my audiobook review for this mesmerizing and magical tale! This book was the perfect blend of contemporary, historical, and magic!✨✨✨

My Thoughts

A spellbinding story pact with scandal suspense and the supernatural!

Beautifully told and breathtaking this story brings present and past together. A bewitched gown Whose evil powers have remain strong throughout the years. Nicola Cornick has spun a tale rich with mystery and magic!

This book was narrated by three separate characters, lady Isabella, her maid constants, and Fenella. The 1765 story was fraught with scandal and deceit. These characters were up to all kinds of no good, scheming, smuggling, and debauchery. Seriously these characters would have made for one tantalizing reality television show! Fenella’s present day story was a little tamer. Fenella has recently got out of a bad marriage, but she has now been reunited with the dreaded gown and all that it implies. We first encounter the gown in 1765 when lady Isabella’s abusive husband gifts her with it. Is it a gift or is it a death sentence? When Constance the maid figures out the true motivation behind the gown she ushers it off into hiding. But the gown’s powers are far reaching its capacity to sway compulsion is strong. Over 200 years later Fen happens across the gown at a historic home and cannot help but pinch it. What power does this gown have over whoever possesses it? And can it be stopped?

I loved how this story wove the historical, the contemporary, and the magical together. It really made for one charming tale with some pretty fascinating characters. Isabella, Constance, and Fenella we’re all very strong smart likable characters, each with their own quirks. The story had a wonderful flow to it and kept me entertained and engaged throughout. This was my first book by Nicola Cornick, but it will definitely not be my last. There was just something so mesmerizing and magical about her writing that really captivated the reader in me.

An exquisitely told tale about a bewitched gown seamlessly woven together with threads of the present and the past. Absolutely recommend!

🎧🎧🎧 The audio book was narrated by multiple narrators always enjoy this win the story is told from multiple different points of view. It really gives each character their own voice and eliminates any confusion as to who is narrating at what time. Also something that I thought was really wonderful about this book was the voices of Lady Isabella and Constance sounded much war historical while Fen’s voice sounded very today. I’m not sure if this even makes sense, but it really worked!

About the Book

Publisher’s Summary

From the best-selling author of House of Shadows and The Phantom Tree comes a spellbinding tale of jealousy, greed, plotting and revenge – part history, part mystery – for fans of Kate Morton, Susanna Kearsley and Barbara Erskine
London, 1765
Lady Isabella Gerard, a respectable member of Georgian society, orders her maid to take her new golden gown and destroy it, its shimmering beauty tainted by the actions of her brutal husband the night before.
Three months later, Lord Gerard stands at the shoreline of the lake, looking down at a woman wearing the golden gown. As the body slowly rolls over to reveal her face, it’s clear this was not his intended victim…
250 Years Later…
When a gown she stole from a historic home as a child is mysteriously returned to Fenella Brightwell, it begins to possess her in exactly the same way that it did as a girl. Soon the fragile new life Fen has created for herself away from her abusive ex-husband is threatened at its foundations by the gown’s power over her until she can’t tell what is real and what is imaginary.
As Fen uncovers more about the gown and Isabella’s story, she begins to see the parallels with her own life. When each piece of history is revealed, the gown – and its past – seems to possess her more and more, culminating in a dramatic revelation set to destroy her sanity.

Three Little Words by Jenny Holiday @jennyholi @readforeverpub #bookreview #threelittlewords

Happy Monday book lovers!

Excited to share with you today my review for this sweet steamy love story packed with heart and humor!💋

My Thoughts

A sweet love story that will make you smile swoon and crave southern cooking!

He doesn’t do hook ups, she doesn’t do relationships. Love this a classic trope turned on its head. This is the third book in the Bridesmaids Behaving Badly series, but it can absolutely be read as a standalone. The books in this series are full of fun, friendship, sizzle, steam, romance, and love! I love strong female friendships in books and these three girls have one of the best I have read. A group of girls you would love to go out with, tell your secrets too, the type of girls who would bring you ice cream at two in the morning. We all need a 2 AM ice cream friend!

Gia is heading to Wendy’s wedding in Florida, caught up in a snowstorm in New York she is forced to take a road trip with Bennett all the way to Florida. These two do not exactly get off on the right foot Bennett thinks that Gia is a bit of a diva, and Gia thinks Bennett is nothing but a player. BUT soon Gia finds out that Bennett is not looking for a good time he’s looking for a long time… relationship that is. As the two of them begin to get to know each other better they begin to question what they really want. SO what are those three little words? I love you? Or… leave me alone?

Gia was an interesting character a bit blunt, a bit bitchy, a bit standoffish, but as the story progresses you really get to know her and to like her. Bennett on the other hand will instantly make you swoon a good looking nice guy who can cook… sold! The chemistry between these two was off the chart HOT and once things got cooking it was definitely steamy! A satisfying ending to a wonderful series!

An entertaining romance perfect for those who like sweet love stories filled with fabulous characters with some sizzle and steam! Recommend!

*** many thanks to Forever for my copy of this book ***

About the Book

Gia Gallo is officially in bridesmaid hell. Stranded in New York with her best friend’s wedding dress, Gia has six days to make it to Florida in time for the ceremony. And oh-so-charming best man Bennett Buchanan has taken the last available rental car. Looks like she’s in for one long road trip with the sexiest – and most irritating – Southern gentleman she’s ever met…

Bennett’s pretty sure that if there was ever a woman to break his “no flings” rule, Gia would be it. Sure, she’s stubborn. She’s also funny, smart, and the attraction between them is getting hotter with every state line they cross. While Bennett doesn’t do casual, Gia doesn’t do “relationships.” But if they break the rules, this unlikely pair might discover that their impromptu road trip could turn out to be the best ride of their lives.

I Invited Her In by Adele Parks @HarlequinBooks #bookreview #audiobook #iinvitedherin

Happy Sunday all!

Excited to share with you my audiobook review for this dark domestic drama about one woman’s need to manipulate and destroy!💜

  • I Invited Her In

  • By: Adele Parks
  • Narrated by: Joanne Froggatt
  • Length: 14 hrs and 30 mins
  • Unabridged Audiobook
  • Release date: 02-05-19
  • Language: English
  • Publisher: Harlequin Audio

My Thoughts

A dark domestic thriller packed with madness and manipulation!

I invited her in… and she took everything…

This was a brilliantly crafted character study! Adele Parks has skillfully constructed A story about the ultimate betrayal. This is not a story full of twists and turns nor is it supposed to be. It is a story about master manipulation and the motivations behind it. A Book about one woman’s rage and need for revenge and the destruction she leaves in her wake.

Melanie and Abi were the best of friends at University, but when Melanie becomes unexpectedly pregnant and leaves university they slowly drift apart. they both lead very different lives. Melanie is now the mother of three and married to a loving man Ben. Abi has moved to the US and become a celebrity, leading a life of fame and glamour. When Melanie receives an email out of the blue from Abi informing her that she’s coming home. Melanie does not hesitate to invite her to stay at her home. At first Melanie is so excited to have her old BFF back in her life, but soon she discovers Abi’s malicious intent.

Wow Abi was one twisted manipulative angry bitch! Seriously there is no other word to describe her, she was crazy evil! Poor Melanie was left trying to figure out why she was doing this to her and picking up the pieces of her life at the same time. There are a few twists and reveals that I suspected, but that’s not what kept me turning the pages. I had to see what Abi would get up to next, how far was she willing to go? Her fury seem to have no boundaries.

A dark drama about revenge, betrayal , and manipulation! Recommend!

🎧🎧🎧 Joanne Froggatt brilliantly narrates this story! She gives Melanie and Abi their own unique voices. Her Abi Voice was pure perfection, I think she made the character even more witchy, I seriously wanted to smack her many times throughout this book!

🎵🎵🎵Song Running Through My Head

You made a fool of me
But them broken dreams have got to end
Hey, woman, you got the blues
‘Cause you ain’t got no one else to use
There’s an open road that leads nowhere,
So just make some miles between here and there
There’s a hole in my head where the rain comes in
You took my body and played to win
Ha, ha, woman, it’s a cryin’ shame
But you ain’t got nobody else to blame.
Evil woman, evil woman, evil woman,
Evil woman.
Rolled in from another town
Hit some gold, too hot to settle down
But a fool and his money soon go separate ways
And you found a fool lyin’ in a daze
Ha, ha, woman, what you gonna do?
You destroyed all the virtues that the Lord gave you
It’s so good that you’re feelin’ pain
But you better get your face on board the very next train.
Evil…

The Perfect Liar by Thomas Christopher Green @StMartinsPress #bookreview #theperfectliar

Happy Sunday book lovers!

Another review for a compelling story about spouses with secrets!💜

My Thoughts

I Know WHO You Are!

Oh what a tangled web we weave… Imagine you find a note taped to your front door and all it says is: I know who you are! Would you assume they had the wrong house? Assume it was for your spouse? Your child? Or would you know you have something to hide and it was meant for you? This is the note that Susanna and Max found taped to their front door one morning, the note that changed everything, the note that they both thought was intended for them. Two people with many secrets to hide, but only one note, who was it meant for? And who knows the truth? Who truly is the “PERFECT LIAR“?

this was one dark compelling story about two pretty disturbed dishonest people. A marriage that appears like a fairytale on the outside, but is riddled with so much deceit on the inside. Two seemingly well adjusted attractive people with so much to hide. So much to lose. Told from the alternating perspectives of both Susanna and Max this book definitely kept me on my toes.

An engaging and entertaining read, but you will need to suspend your belief a little. There is a stolen identity in this book (don’t worry this is not a spoiler) and a simple Google search could probably clear a lot of things up, but the search was never made, well at least not by the right people. Things like this don’t generally bother me, but it did make me think hmm… so if you are one of those people that needs everything to be realistic, you are forewarned for this one! Despite this the book is highly addictive with some very well drawn despicable characters. So many secrets, so many lies, you never are quite sure whose side to be on, if any. Recommend!

Better lock it, in your pocket
Taking this one to the grave
If I show you then I know you
Won’t tell what I said
‘Cause two can keep a secret
If one of them is dead?
Why do you smile
Like you have told a secret
Now you’re telling lies
‘Cause you’re the one to keep it
But no one keeps a secret
No one keeps a secret
Why when we do our darkest deeds
Do we tell?
They burn in our brains
Become a living hell
‘Cause everyone tells
Everyone tells?

About the Book

A seemingly perfect marriage is threatened by the deadly secrets husband and wife keep from each other, for fans of B.A. Paris and Paula Hawkins.

Susannah, a young widow and single mother, has remarried well: to Max, a charismatic artist and popular speaker whose career took her and her fifteen-year-old son out of New York City and to a quiet Vermont university town. Strong-willed and attractive, Susannah expects that her life is perfectly in place again. Then one quiet morning she finds a note on her door: I KNOW WHO YOU ARE.

Max dismisses the note as a prank. But days after a neighborhood couple comes to dinner, the husband mysteriously dies in a tragic accident while on a run with Max. Soon thereafter, a second note appears on their door: DID YOU GET AWAY WITH IT?

Both Susannah and Max are keeping secrets from the world and from each other —secrets that could destroy their family and everything they have built. The Perfect Liar is a thrilling novel told through the alternating perspectives of Susannah and Max with a shocking climax that no one will expect, from the bestselling author of The Headmaster’s Wife.

My Last Lie by Ella Drummond @drummondella1 @herabooks @BOTBSPublicity #bookreview #mylastlie

Happy Sunday bibliophiles!

Excited to share with you today my review for this intriguing story that captivated me from first to last page! Many thanks to Sarah for my invitation to the tour!🌹

My Thoughts

An eerie and engaging story that kept me riveted from first page to last!

This book was a slow burner that had me suspecting everybody. This is Ella Drummond’s debut and I think she did a marvelous job with Miss direction and twists. The characters were all very well drawn, even though most weren’t all that likable and one was downright despicable. A special shout out needs to go to Pilar’s mother, such a wonderful fascinating character that you will love to hate! A cast of interesting characters and a clever plot, makes for one unputdownable compulsive thriller!

Pilar and Theo have just suffered a terrible tragedy followed by a breakdown of both spirit and marriage. Theo surprises Pilar with a new start and a new home in Cornwall. However soon after moving into their new home strange things start happening, things are moved around, mysterious phone calls, just to name a few. Convinced that someone is messing with her as well as watching her, Pilar is compelled to figure out who knows the secrets that she is hiding. But Pilar is not the only one with things to hide.

Pilar was a sympathetic character. Not only has she suffered this terrible tragedy, but who hasn’t been convinced that somebody move something from where they are sure they left it? Throughout the story I was never quite sure if Pilar was completely sane or not? So many crazy twists and even though I was pretty convinced of the who, I had no idea of the why! And that last lie? Wow!

An addictive intriguing story that will completely draw you in! Recommend!

The Liar by Nora Roberts #NoraRoberts @justjanuary @audible_com #AudiobookReview #Mystery #Romance

Another day, another Nora Roberts, where has she been all of my life!

Why did I pick it up? – I’m not sure why I didn’t ever pick up anything by Nora Roberts, I think I’ve mentioned before that The Witness is one of my favourite reads, but for some reason I had the idea that Roberts was a bit like Danielle Steele or Mills & Boon (I have no idea why)
So her books didn’t even pass my radar.

Silly me, i’m currently making my way through a few of them, and I’ve loved them all so far!

This one had me gasping, swooning, and wishing I was part of the family. To me, it felt a little like one of the Rock Chick books by Kristen Ashley with all of the family dynamics, and I loved it!

My Thoughts

This story is about Shelby Foxworth, she comes from a “hick” town in Tennessee, and was swept off of her feet by a rich businessman. They were married very quickly and soon became pregnant.

A boating holiday was to be the downfall of their marriage, unfortunately due to her daughter being ill, Shelby stayed behind, but her husband nevertheless went alone, there was an accident, and he died.

When Shelby starts to deal with the aftermath, bills etc. she comes to find that her husband wasn’t the man she thought she married at all, in fact, alongside the millions of dollars in debt that he left her in, it also seems that he was a cheater and a liar, in fact he didn’t even really exist at all!

Moving back to her family home she tries to start living her life again, but trouble has a way of catching up with you!

🎧🎧 – Narrated by my #VoiceCrush January LaVoy, who was awesome as always, this one was a fantastic read.

About the book

The extraordinary new novel by the #1 New York Times–bestselling author of The Collector.

Shelby Foxworth lost her husband. Then she lost her illusions …

The man who took her from Tennessee to an exclusive Philadelphia suburb left her in crippling debt. He was an adulterer and a liar, and when Shelby tracks down his safe-deposit box, she finds multiple IDs. The man she loved wasn’t just dead. He never really existed.

Shelby takes her three-year-old daughter and heads south to seek comfort in her hometown, where she meets someone new: Griff Lott, a successful contractor. But her husband had secrets she has yet to discover. Even in this small town, surrounded by loved ones, danger is closer than she knows—and threatens Griff, as well. And an attempted murder is only the beginning …
