The Pact by Amy Heydenrych @AmyHeydenrych @ZaffreBooks @ReadersFirst1 #BookReview #ThePact #AmyHeydenrych

Hello Book friends,

I am so happy to bring you a review for this book that wasn’t even on my radar, but I saw the synopsis and thought “I MUST HAVE IT”!!

47495990._SY475_

My Thoughts

🆁🅴🆅🅴🅽🅶🅴 🅸🆂 🅰 🅳🅸🆂🅷 🅱🅴🆂🆃 🆂🅴🆁🆅🅴🅳 🅲🅾🅻🅳

This was a great little who-done-it type story based around an office environment.

Switching POV’s and timelines, the book jumps from before the murder to after.

Our main character Freya is a computer whizz, she has always had the dream of working for the giant Startup company, Atypical (think Google/Microsoft) so it is the best day of her life when she not only get’s the job of her dreams, but she is practically head hunted for it!

She quickly shows how good she is at coding and makes quite the impression, especially from Jay one of the Co-founders of the company.

Soon Freya and Jay are a couple, but keeping it quiet isn’t always easy, especially working in an office, anyone that works in one will tell you that there are NEVER secrets in an office, it doesn’t matter how careful you are!

Freya is super happy with Jay, there is only one problem, and her name is Nicole!

Nicole is so obviously jealous of the relationship between Freya and Jay that she becomes the office bully, and makes Freya’s life a nightmare, so one day her and Jay decide that enough is enough, and play a silly, funny prank on her.

Except no-one is laughing when Nicole ends up murdered!!

Cleverly told in the voices of Freya, and also a journalist called Isla who is covering the murder story, this little twisty book may not have the story you think it will!

Covering topics such as office & cyber bullying and also sexual harassment, it is a great book to get your teeth into.

*Thank you to the author and to Readers First for gifting me a copy of this book.

Enjoy

Snowflakes Over Moondance Cottage by Rosie Green @rararesources #bookreview

Happy Monday booklovers!

Another holiday treat from a much loved author! The gems keep coming!

Snowflakes over Moondance Cottage

When Jess Thornton’s dad was lost at sea, the family coped in different ways, alone in their grief. Now, her mum seems to be going off the rails and her sister, Isla, who moved to France, is now back and determined to get their old family home on the market. But the last thing Jess wants this Christmas is for renovations to start on the house. It’s sure to stir up all sorts of memories she’s desperate to avoid. And to make things worse, Isla appears to have hired the most obnoxious builder in the world to do the work. Jess could ignore the fact that women seem to be putty in his hands. But what she finds harder to ignore is the frisson she gets every time she squeezes past him in the mess that is now their beloved old home! Can the family finally start talking and find a way to move on from the past this Christmas?

My Thoughts

Emotional and entertaining with a festive feel! Rosie Green has written a beautiful story that hit me right in the heart. I went in expecting a heartwarming Christmas romance and got so much more. It was heartwarming, there was a romance, and it does take place around Christmas, but this book was more focused on grief and the bonds of family. Sisters Jess and Isla Lost their father over three years ago and they are both contending with their grief but in very different ways. When Isla returns from France she feels it is time to renovate and sell the family home. Jess is determined to not let this happen especially at Christmas. But soon she finds herself not only dealing with a mother who has been acting strangely, but a rude contractor that makes her heart pitter patter a bit faster. What follows is a lovely story that will make you smile, cry, and want to hug your loved ones A little tighter.

I really loved getting to know these sisters better. Jess was easier to Like, but as I got to know Isla The better I liked her. This book really made me reflect on my own family and made me grateful my parents have already moved out of the family home. As depressing as the subject matter might sound, this book really had a lot of hope and heart in it. Another enchanting story from this fabulous author. A stunning story of family peppered with romance and holiday cheer!

Author Bio

Rosie has been scribbling stories ever since she was little.

Back then, they were rip-roaring adventure tales with a young heroine in perilous danger of falling off a cliff or being tied up by ‘the baddies’.

Thankfully, Rosie has moved on somewhat, and now much prefers to write romantic comedies that melt your heart and make you smile, with really not much perilous danger involved at all – unless you count the heroine losing her heart in love.

Rosie’s brand new series of novellas is centred around life in a village cafe. The latest, ‘Bonfires & Hot Chocolate at the Little Duck Pond Cafe’, is out now.

Watch out for ‘A Winter Wedding at the Little Duck Pond Cafe’, which will be published Christmas 2019.

Rosie is also writing a full-length, standalone book for Christmas 2019, entitled ‘Snowflakes over Moondance Cottage’.

Coming Home to Merriment Bay Part 4 by Emily Harvale @emilyharvale @rararesources #bookreview

Happy Monday book friends!

Emily Harvale has become one of my favorite authors, I would read anything she writes. Rachel could email me with a book about antelope on a rocket trip to the moon where they encounter dinosaurs and I’d see it was by Emily and I’d say OK I’ll read it! But please don’t get any ideas! This is the last book in this fun serial and I am certainly hoping that there is more fun to be had in Merriment Bay! 🙏🏻

Coming Home to Merriment Bay: Part Four: Starry Skies

Part Four of this heartwarming four-part serial about finding the strength to put the past behind you and to reach out for a future filled with happiness and love.

Cat is reeling from the unexpected events of Christmas and as Merriment Bay prepares to toast in the New Year, she’s facing choices she never thought she’d have to make. Her head and her heart are pulling her in very different directions.

Bailey is sitting by Viola’s bedside, regaling everyone with tales from the past but is there any chance he’ll get to see a smile on the lips of the woman he still loves?

Having realised she has made mistakes, will Mary finally tell Cat what she really wants to know?

And what will the New Year bring for Kyra? Will she fulfil the plans she made before she came to Merriment Bay?

When distressing events end more than one person’s dream, can Cat find the strength to fight for the Love she deserves? Sometimes it takes a crisis to make someone realise what they truly want. And Cat has decided what – and who – that really is. But is she too late?

My Thoughts

This was the perfect ending to this delightful series. Emily Harvale sure knows how to spin a tale and tug at my heartstrings. This book hit me right in the feels! Emotional, whimsical, and charming! This book ties up all the loose strings from the previous books and does it in a beautiful heartfelt way. We finally find out if Granny Violet and Bailey rekindle there long burning flame. Best of all we finally get to see if Cat and Amias figure things out. Over 18 years of will they? Won’t they? Two smart people acting foolishly, I’m sure everyone reading this wanted to knock their heads together! I thought the conclusion to the story was perfect and I loved the backdrop of New Year’s Eve, perfect time to finally get it together. I hope this is not the last book in the series I’m sure there is more fun to be had in Merriment Bay.

This book sounds so sweet! And I love how it incorporates not just Christmas but Hanukkah as well. Ice cream and holiday cheer, yes please!🍦

Hanukkah At The Great Greenwich Ice Creamery

Hanukkah days, Christmas nights and strawberry ice cream …

Cohen Ford is a man who could do with a little bit of sweetening up. It’s no surprise that when he walks into The Great Greenwich Ice Creamery on a typically gloomy London day before Christmas, he insists on a black coffee rather than his childhood favourite – strawberry ice cream.

But then he meets River de Luca, the woman behind the flavours. After their first encounter, Cohen begins visiting the ice creamery every Tuesday, gradually learning more about the intriguing River. Could her influence encourage cynical Cohen to become the man who embraces Christmas, Hanukkah and even strawberry ice cream?

Eve’s Christmas by Julie Butterfeild @rararesources #bookspotlight

Hello bookish friends!

Guess what! I have another Christmas book for you all! This one looks so fun and so festive! Hoping I can get to it before Christmas!🎄

Eve’s Christmas

Working for a department store where Christmas arrives in August, Eve prefers her own festivities to be low key with nothing more complicated than an oven ready turkey and frozen peas while she spends the day in her pyjamas. Unfortunately, this year her husband has invited his best friend to visit, the glamorous and sophisticated Abby, and Eve reluctantly decides that she needs to inject a little sparkle into their laid back and slightly shabby Christmas. So the celebrations are upgraded to include champagne and canapes along with homemade gravy and organic turkey and plans are made for a Christmas that looks as though it has emerged from the pages of a glossy magazine.

But even the best laid plans can go wrong and as Eve struggles with her mini Yorkshire puddings and an interfering cat, she is suddenly faced with an unexpected guest and an explosive secret that threatens to put her vision of a perfect Christmas in jeopardy.

US – https://www.amazon.com/Eves-Christmas-delightful-following-perfection-ebook/dp/B07ZMHMFBR

Author Bio – Julie Butterfield belongs to the rather large group of ‘always wanted to write’ authors who finally found the time to sit down and put pen to paper – or rather fingers to keyboard.

She wrote her first book purely for pleasure and was very surprised to discover that so many people enjoyed the story and wanted more, so she decided to carry on writing.

It has to be pointed out that her first novel, ‘Did I Mention I Won The Lottery’ is a complete work of fiction and she did not, in fact, receive millions in her bank account and forget to mention it to her husband – even though he still asks her every day if she has anything to tell him!

Out With the Ex in With the New by Sophie Renald @bookouture

Happy Sunday all!

I have loved every book I’ve read from Sophie Reynolds but seriously this is the best I have read yet! Fun flirty and full of humor!🧸

My Thoughts

This book was fun, flirty, and filled with whimsy! Gemma is 24 and at a bit of a crossroads in her life. She has finally landed a job after looking forever. Excited to share this news with her boyfriend Jack, who she is certain she will be moving in with soon, Gemma gets a bit of a shock. Jack has decided he’s going to tour the world and not with Gemma but rather his friend Olivia. So now Gemma finds her self finding a new place to live in London alone, and she finds a room in a house with a very interesting couple. Things get off to a bit of a rocky start. Gemma‘s dream writing job turns out to be Gemma writing quirky quips about cats. And then she gets a dear John letter from Jack. Gemma is devastated and takes to her Vlog to vent and gives the most epic break up spiel ever! What follows is a wild and crazy chain of events that will alter Gemma‘s life and perspective forever.

Gemma was a great character, I was cheering for the girl from first page to last! There was a lot in this book about vlogging and the YouTube culture and admittedly I don’t entirely understand it. My kids seem to watch a lot of YouTube and the attraction escapes me, why anyone would want to watch someone else playing video games is beyond me. I know there’s more to it than that, but I am definitely not of the YouTube generation. I did find it interesting, it’s crazy how well known these people are for skateboarding around their house. There was a lot more to this then YouTube parties, make up videos, and shopping. There were some heavier topics and I think they were incorporated into this lighter read very well. Something I truly did appreciate about this book was even though there were some romantic entanglements the story really was about Gemma finding her inner strength. My only tiny niggle with this book is it could’ve been edited down a little I think, but that’s very minor. All in all this was an entertaining book about an engaging character.

About the Book

Gemma didn’t expect her life to look like this. She’s still living with her mother, who steals her leggings and tells her off for leaving crumbs in the butter. After twenty failed interviews she thought she’d got her dream job as a journalist – except it turns out to be writing articles about cats that look like George Clooney. Luckily she has her wonderful boyfriend, Jack, to help her forget just how awful things are.

Then Jack dumps her out of the blue. With nothing but her childhood teddy bear, Stanley, and a whole heap of heartbreak, Gemma resolves to turn things around. She throws herself into her new job and soon she’s hanging out with cheeky, golden-haired hunk Charlie, eating in swanky restaurants and sipping trendy cocktails – and her old life seems like a distant memory.

But it’s not long until her shiny new world starts to lose its sparkle – and Gemma misses the days of wearing battered pink converse and eating peanut butter on toast in bed. Then Jack turns up, backpack in tow, and things start to go wrong with Charlie. ‘Out with the old, in with the new’, the saying goes. But what happens if neither one is quite right?

This laugh-out-loud romantic comedy is for anyone who’s ever cried their eyes out to love songs after a break-up or accidentally drunk-texted their ex. Fans of Sophie Kinsella and Lindsey Kelk will love this unmissable read which is all about falling in love with the most important person: yourself!

This book was previously published as the Truth About Gemma Grey.

Stay by Catherine Ryan Hyde @amazonpub #bookreview

Happy Friday y’all!

You guys this book was exceptional! I was really seriously just blown away by how quietly powerful the story was, such a gem! I cannot recommend this strongly enough!

My Thoughts

Such a beautiful story! Exquisitely told, deeply moving, and thoughtfully tender. It is the summer of 1969 and 14-year-old Lucas has a lot too be concerned about. His parents are fighting nonstop, his brother is over in Vietnam, and his best friend doesn’t seem to want to leave the house. There was a lot of burden on this 14-year-old’s shoulders and so he took to running in the woods where he met Zoe and her dogs. At first Lucas would only run with the dogs and had very little interaction with Zoe, but soon they started to form a unexpected bond. Zoe is a reclusive still dealing with the consequences of an accident that happened over 20 years ago. She’s A little rough around the edges, lonely, and wise. Always lending a listening ear and offering quiet words of wisdom to Lucas. Lucas and Zoe are soon joined by Connor Lucas‘s best friend who has been going through some depression. Later when Roy comes home from Vietnam he also joins this unlikely pair turned trio and now quad. It was quite remarkable how strong the bond was between Zoe and these three young men, a bond that lasted over three decades.

This book dealt with so many tough issues including suicide, drug addiction, and grief. Catherine Ryan Hyde does this with a loving hand and pure heart. The story is told entirely from Lucas‘s perspective. He was such an exceptional character so caring, so considerate, so wise. Even when he took a girl out on a date he seemed much older than 14, but in a very innocent way. He is one of those very special characters who wormed his way into my heart. This book just hit me right in the feels, one of the best coming-of-age stories I have read in quite some time.

About the Book

An unforgettable novel about the power of friendship and kindness by the New York Times bestselling author of Pay It Forward.

And his best friend, Connor, is struggling with his own family issues. To find relief from the chaos, Lucas takes long, meandering walks, and one day he veers into the woods.

There he discovers an isolated cabin and two huge dogs. Frightened, he runs. And the dogs run with him. Lucas finds unusual peace in running with the dogs, and eventually he meets their owner, Zoe Dinsmore. Closed off and haunted by a tragic past, Zoe has given up. She doesn’t want to be saved. She wants out. But Lucas doesn’t want her to go, and he sees an opportunity to bring more than one friend back into the light. Their unexpected connection might be the saving grace that Zoe thought she’d lost, that Connor needs, and that Lucas has been running toward.

Cold Heart Creek by Lisa Regan @bookouture #bookreview

Happy almost weekend bibliophiles!

If you have not read this series yet run don’t walk to wherever you purchase books and get the first book in the series and binge it immediately! If you are already familiar with Josie Quinn and this fabulous series, I seriously think this is the best one yet!🤩

My Thoughts

This series just keeps getting better and better and better… this is the seventh book in the series end it could be read as a standalone, but I would strongly encourage you to read this entire series. There is so much character growth throughout the books and the characters continuous story arc adds to the brilliance of the series. The story kicks off with two dead bodies at a campsite in the woods and then a pregnant woman fleeing out of the trees in the same forest. As Josie and Noah begin to investigate they run across a “sanctuary“ in the middle of the woods. What follows is a wild investigation involving murder, kidnapping, a cult, and a hermit. All this is going on while Josie continues to wrestle with her demons and come to terms with her estranged mother’s impending death.

This crime thriller was so cleverly plotted and perfectly pased. I was completely sucked in from the very first page then at about 80% the tension was ramped way up and I was unable to tear my eyes from the pages. My heart was pounding and my mind was racing, I needed to find out what the heck was going on. I had a slight inclination as to the direction these cases were going in, but I had no idea of the complexities involved. Once again my detective hats off to you Lisa Regan! If you have not read this series run don’t walk to wherever it is you purchase books from Anne start bingeing this brilliant series, and if you are already a fan this is the best one yet!

About the Book

In the stark light of dawn, the young couple are laid out on their backs by the dying campfire, their hands clasped between them. Their eyes are open, but their hearts are cold…

When a park ranger stumbles across the bodies of Valerie and Tyler Yates by a creek in the small town of Denton, Detective Josie Quinn is first on the scene. Still reeling from the news that her abusive mother is dying, Josie suspects this is more than just accidental poisoning, and she’s right: someone jammed a crudely carved pendant necklace down Valerie’s throat before she died.

Combing the area, Josie’s team discover a third sleeping bag indicating there could have been an extra guest around the fire that night. A lucky escape? A missing victim? Or a suspect on the run? Finding this person is the key to the entire investigation…

Trawling the couple’s photo albums for clues, Josie can’t imagine why anyone might want to harm these smiling, carefree young lovers. Until a face in one of the pictures stops her in her tracks and leads her to a farmhouse hidden deep within the forest – a special place where people go to escape, and to hide. There they meet a young girl with frightened eyes and bandaged wrists who knows more than she is saying. But the next day she’s found dead, choked with a matching necklace…

With her mother’s life hanging by a thread, Josie has an impossible decision to make. But first she must find the meaning of the pendant and catch this twisted killer before another innocent life is taken. Is she already too late?

An addictive and gripping crime thriller from an Amazon, USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author. Readers who love Robert Dugoni, Angela Marsons and Rachel Caine will be sleeping with the lights on after this rollercoaster of a read.

Lake Season by Denise Hunter @tnzfiction @tlcbooktours #bookreview

Hello Friends!

This romance lover term thriller lover has recently gone back to her roots. I have read so many amazing romances lately making me really remember why I love the romance genre!😍

My Thoughts

A heartwarming story that will put a smile on your face and an extra flutter in your heart. When I discovered that Denise Hunter has written several books that have been made into Hallmark movies I was not surprised. Her descriptive writing and vivid characters really brought this book to life. Not to mention it was so full of family, heart, love, and hope. Molly and her siblings Levi and Haley have recently lost their parents. Determined to keep their parents dreams alive they will do what it takes to turn there run down home into an Inn. One of their first guess is Adam. Adam is sweet and helpful and a little awkward. He is also the best selling author Nathaniel Grey but this is something that only his agent and his best friend know. When Molly discovers a old letter in the wall that never was sent Adam and she decide to bring some closure to the recipient. Will this bring Adam and Molly closer together? And what will happen when his secret comes out?

The romance between Molly and Adam was so sweet. Although it did take them some time to figure it out! I also loved the relationship between all the siblings, they really were so there for one another. This is a series so I’m assuming they will each get their HEA. The secondary story involving the letter really added so much texture to the book. Something I really loved was that there is a crazy coincidence in this book and it was completely addressed. So often in Books there are some things that seem way too unlikely to be coincidental, but in the case of this book they just put it out there and I really appreciated that. If you enjoy a sweet clean romance this one’s for you!

About the Book

A lost letter, a new love, and old secrets beckon this summer at the Bluebell Inn.

When their parents die in a tragic accident, Molly Bennett and her siblings pull together to fulfill their parents’ dream: turning their historic Bluebell, North Carolina home back into an inn. The situation would just be temporary—three years at the most—then they would sell the inn and Molly could get back to chasing her own dreams.

Adam Bradford (aka bestselling author Nathanial Grey) is a reclusive novelist with a bad case of writer’s block. Desperate for inspiration as his deadline approaches, he travels to the setting of his next book, a North Carolina lake town. There he immediately meets his muse, a young innkeeper who fancies herself in love with his alter ego.

Molly and Adam strike up an instant friendship. When Molly finds a long-lost letter in the walls of her inn she embarks on a mission with Adam to find the star-crossed lovers and bring them the closure they deserve. But Adam has secrets of his own. Past and present collide as truths are revealed, and Molly and Adam will have to decide if love is worth trusting.
