The Last Mrs. Parrish

The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine

4.5 superb stars! 🌟🌟🌟🌟.5

Synopsis

Amber Patterson is fed up. She’s tired of being a nobody: a plain, invisible woman who blends into the background. She deserves more—a life of money and power like the one blond-haired, blue-eyed goddess Daphne Parrish takes for granted. To everyone in the exclusive town of Bishops Harbor, Connecticut, Daphne and her husband, Jackson—the beautiful philanthropist and the confident real estate mogul—are a golden couple straight out of a fairy tale, blessed with two lovely young daughters.

Amber’s envy could eat her alive–if she didn’t have a plan. Amber uses Daphne’s compassion and caring to insinuate herself into the family’s life, the first step in a meticulous scheme to undermine her. Before long, Amber is Daphne’s closest confidante, traveling to Europe with the Parrish family, and growing closer to Jackson. But a skeleton from her past may undermine everything that Amber has worked towards, and if it is discovered, her well-laid plan may fall to pieces.

Review

WOW! What a fun ride that was! The only reason this book is not getting the full five stars is it was a bit slow to start…. but once it hit about 40% WOWZA things went sideways…. and I loved it!

I just read and reviewed The Wife Between Us and really enjoyed it…. It is very similar to this book…. so I can’t help but compare and I’d have to say I enjoyed this book more….. and the reason for this is I adored and hated these characters so much….

Amber was the perfect girl you had to hate…. although I have to admit up until that first twist I was rooting for her a tiny bit (don’t judge…😉) then we have Daphne… I can’t even tell you how I feel about Daphne because that would ruin things, but such a well developed character my feelings for her were all over the place throughout this book (I so much want to say something right now but I can’t🤫🤭)

Ugh! I am so jealous of you who have not already read this… you have such a wonderful treat ahead of you….. so just pick this book up sit back relax and enjoy the crazy ride! And keep in mind good things come to those who wait….. Think of the beginning of this book as that huge hill you go up on a roller coaster before things start going sideways and crazy…. it isn’t necessarily the best part of the ride, but it’s necessary to get you to that place where things go wild!

PS: And for those of you who have read this already that ending! Perfection🐢

🎧🎧🎧 Duel narration done perfectly! Five stars for Suzanne Elise Freeman and Meghan Wolf…. and what was really wonderful is that you could absolutely distinguish between their voices, sometimes with multiple narrators of the same gender it is hard to do, but this was not the case with this book! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Hope you like Roller Coasters,

The Wife Between Us

The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen

4.25 wild and crazy stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟.25

Synopsis

When you read this book, you will make many assumptions.

You will assume you are reading about a jealous ex-wife. You will assume she is obsessed with her replacement – a beautiful, younger woman who is about to marry the man they both love. You will assume you know the anatomy of this tangled love triangle.

Assume nothing.

Twisted and deliciously chilling, Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen’s The Wife Between Us exposes the secret complexities of an enviable marriage – and the dangerous truths we ignore in the name of love.

Read between the lies.

Review

Wow! This book and The Last Mrs. Parrish were remarkably similar… I thoroughly enjoyed both books, and it is impossible not to compare…. However, I think I found The Last Mrs. Parrish A little more compelling…. I will also be posting my review for that book today, finally!

Well, onto this book, where to start without giving too much away…. Vanessa is the scorned ex-wife, trying to make life hell for her replacement…. or is she? Richard is the perfect doting husband always there for his wife to lean on….. or is he? As I’m sure all my avid psychological thriller reading friends know, things are not always as they seem….

Vanessa was a very complicated character and I grew to really like her by the end of this book…. I loved how the story was told…. it started out leading you in one direction and then took a giant turn in another direction…..

The last 25% of this book was unputdownable….. it was crazy….. twist after twist after twist….. and just when I thought there could not be any more yet another twist! An absolutely wonderful surprising ending to this book!

I would absolutely recommend to all fans of psychological thrillers!

PS: at the end of The audiobook there was an interview with the authors…. I found it very interesting that they wrote this book in tandem…. rather than passing it back-and-forth like most others who collaborate on a book do…. sure hope they decide to collaborate again because this was fabulous!

🎧🎧🎧 audiobook narration 5 fabulous stars! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Julia Whalen is absolutely one of my all-time favorite narrators! Ever since amazing Amy…. she has held a special Space in my audiobook heart💕

Review

Wow I loved this book.

If you fancy rooting in the back of your closet and finding your old leg warmers, jelly shoes, ra-ra skirts and different colored luminous socks, then this is the book for you.

With references throughout to the 80’s from movies to music and beyond, this book brought out my inner nerd, and I didn’t even know I had one.

Anyway I’d love to chat, but I’m just sticking on my Wham 12″ vinyl and crimping my hair……..everyone sing after me, “Club Tropicana drinks are freeeeeeeee! !! ”

You don’t need any blurb, go on and give it a try ……you might like it.

Excellently narrated by Wil Wheaton of Star trek / Big bang Theory fame, this book is a must for all of you 80’s fans, read it before the movie comes out later on in the year.

Like, Read on Dude!

GENTLEMAN 9 EXCERPT REVEAL

From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new, sexy standalone novel.

Growing up, the three of us were friends.

He was the nerd.

I was the playboy.

She was the beauty.

Deep down, I only ever wanted her. I kept it inside because Rory and I made a pact that our friend, Amber, was off-limits.

He lied.

I went off to college, and he got the girl.

Amber never knew how I felt.

They were together for years—before he broke her heart.

Through it all and across the miles, she and I casually stayed in touch.

When my job sent me to Boston for a three-month contract position, Amber let me stay in her spare room.

Still reeling from her breakup, she’d sworn off men.

One night, I opened her computer to find the shock of my life. She’d hesitantly contacted a male escort company. Afraid to date and get her heart broken again, she was looking for sex with no strings.

Every emotion imaginable ran through me: protectiveness, jealousy—curiosity.

Amber had chosen Gentleman Number Nine and sent him a message.

She opened up to him, confessing, among other things, her physical attraction to her friend— me. But she considered me off-limits—and she thought I was a manwhore. (Ironic, considering the circumstances.)

Eventually, she set up a date to meet Gentleman Nine at a hotel.

When she showed up several nights later to meet him, she got the surprise of her life to see me standing there—with an offer I hoped she wouldn’t refuse.

G9,

Is that what your friends call you? I like that. Thanks for the answers.

That’s an interesting question—why tonight of all nights? Well, I saw my ex tagged on Facebook with another woman, and that put me over the edge. But it’s more than that. Lately, I’ve developed a strong attraction to a good friend of mine, and that’s sort of screwing with me a bit. He’s actually temporarily living in my condo, but he’s someone I’ve known for years. I’ve always thought he was extremely handsome, but it’s complicated. He and I would not be a good match romantically. He’s not the monogamous type, or at least, he never used to be. We’re better off as friends. He was also the best friend of my ex years back, so there’s that. Having him around, though, has made me more sensitized to my sexual desires. Little things like the waft of his scent, the way he touches the small of my back when he passes by me in the kitchen…it’s like my body is on this constant state of alert. So, I was thinking if I could just—for lack of a better word—get laid, maybe I could get this feeling out of my system.

 Amber

My jaw was open as I just sat there staring at the screen.

Holy shit.

I read it again.

And again.

And again.

I honestly didn’t think that Amber felt that way about me. She would always make jokes about me being good-looking, but her attraction to Rory proved that her taste wasn’t exactly conventional. Now, I really felt like shit for invading her privacy, because there was no way she would’ve been okay with confessing that to me. I never imagined any of this had to do with me. I’d assumed it was solely about Rory.

She wanted to use another man to f*ck me out of her system?

That revelation left me shocked and confused—not to mention hard as f*ck thinking about the fact that Amber wanted me.

My Name is Venus Black

COMING TO SHELVES NEAR YOU ON

FEBRUARY 28!

My Name Is Venus Black by Heather Lloyd

All The stars and planets for Venus Black 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Synopsis

Venus Black is a straitlaced A student fascinated by the study of astronomy—until the night she commits a shocking crime that tears her family apart and ignites a media firestorm. Venus refuses to talk about what happened or why, except to blame her mother. Adding to the mystery, Venus’s developmentally challenged younger brother, Leo, goes missing.

More than five years later, Venus is released from prison with a suitcase of used clothes, a fake identity, and a determination to escape her painful past. Estranged from her mother, and with her beloved brother still missing, she sets out to make a fresh start in Seattle, skittish and alone. But as new people enter her orbit—including a romantic interest and a young girl who seems like a mirror image of her former lost self—old wounds resurface, and Venus realizes that she can’t find a future while she’s running from her past.

Review

This book definitely put a BIG smile on my face….. this is an absolute character driven book with some extremely likable characters and some a little tougher to like…..

Venus is sent to juvenile detention when she is 13 for killing her stepfather…. shortly after Venus is incarcerated her little brother Leo is taken…. Venus spends her five years in juvenile detention bitter and angry with her mother… and worried about and missing her little brother….

More than Venus this book really is about Leo…. a little boy with autism who seems to bring out the best and worst in people…. I believe the author did a very good job with the character of Leo…. he tugged at my heart strings just as much as he did Venus, Tessa, and many others….

This book really is about family and what makes a family…. Venus started this book thinking the only family she had was little brother Leo and ended this book having so much more….. The book was also about forgiveness and understanding and growth….. Venus really had a lot of character growth in this book…. and a lot of that was done through both forgiving and understandingn…. A lot of Venus‘s growth was thanks to a young girl who was probably my favorite character in the book by the name of Piper…. the relationship between them was truly sweet…..

If you are looking for a fast paced thrill of a book, this is not the book for you…. however if you are wanting a book filled with magnificent characters and special moments I’d absolutely suggest picking this up…..

PS: for those of you who have already read this, the ending was just the right color💙

They were all there the day your sister went missing…Who is lying? Who is next?

Then–In charge of her little sister at the beach, Claire allowed Eleanor to walk to the shop alone to buy an ice cream. Placing a coin into her hand, Claire told her to be quick, knowing how much she wanted the freedom. Eleanor never came back.

Now–The time has finally come to sell the family farm and Claire is organising a reunion of her dearest friends, the same friends who were present the day her sister went missing.

When another girl disappears, long-buried secrets begin to surface. One of the group hides the darkest secret of them all…

Review

WOW! Don’t you love it when a book is even better than you expected it to be? This is my first book by, Samantha Hayes…. and I can guarantee it will not be my last!

Claire’s father has Alzheimer’s….. So to help boost her fathers spirits while coping with this disease and needing to sell his property Claire decides to have a reunion of sorts…. The beginning of this book introduces us to all the characters who will be coming to the “reunion“…. these are also the same people that were around when Lenny…. Claire’s younger sister went missing 20 years ago….

The beginning of this book is a definite slow burn…. The story is told from multiple points of view, I think I counted at least six…. I love this format with the multiple points of view….. however the very small problem I had with this book was it was difficult to really connect with any of the characters, because the viewpoint switched rather quickly…. but inspite of this I enjoyed this book immensely, because it was so compelling…. absolutely a page turner!

After another girl goes missing during the reunion, it becomes clear that somebody has been hiding something….. the similarities are too overwhelmingn…. I must have changed my mind at least 10 times, as to who the culprit was…. as soon as I thought I had it figured out something would happen and I’d change my mind… or I’d think it was way too obvious that it was the person I thought it was…. twists and turns and false leads made this a wonderful psychological thriller….and that ending….. did not see that coming!

Absolutely recommend to all my psychological thriller loving friends!

The Rosie Project #flashbackfriday

The Rosie Project

The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion

🌟🌟🌟🌟 Fun filled stars

Blurb

An international sensation, this hilarious, feel-good novel is narrated by an oddly charming and socially challenged genetics professor on an unusual quest: to find out if he is capable of true love.

Don Tillman, professor of genetics, has never been on a second date. He is a man who can count all his friends on the fingers of one hand, whose lifelong difficulty with social rituals has convinced him that he is simply not wired for romance. So when an acquaintance informs him that he would make a “wonderful” husband, his first reaction is shock. Yet he must concede to the statistical probability that there is someone for everyone, and he embarks upon The Wife Project. In the orderly, evidence-based manner with which he approaches all things, Don sets out to find the perfect partner. She will be punctual and logical—most definitely not a barmaid, a smoker, a drinker, or a late-arriver.

Yet Rosie Jarman is all these things. She is also beguiling, fiery, intelligent—and on a quest of her own. She is looking for her biological father, a search that a certain DNA expert might be able to help her with. Don’s Wife Project takes a back burner to the Father Project and an unlikely relationship blooms, forcing the scientifically minded geneticist to confront the spontaneous whirlwind that is Rosie—and the realization that love is not always what looks good on paper.

The Rosie Project is a moving and hilarious novel for anyone who has ever tenaciously gone after life or love in the face of overwhelming challenges.

Review

Don is different to everyone else and he knows it!

He has routines, down to the second for EVERYTHING including what he is having for dinner that night (Lobster on Tuesday, kept in the bath until he kills it!)

He decides that it’s high time that he gets himself a partner and so starts “The Wife Project”

A questionnaire is prepared for all candidates to complete and it is passed out in hilarious fashion on speed dating nights, online dating sites and randomly wherever he sees fit.

The questionnaire is precise …..I mean really precise, Height, Weight, BMI (to make sure that the candidate can complete mundane maths problems), do you smoke? Drink? How often? Etc. etc. etc. …. Some of the questions are ridiculous, but Don doesn’t see this as he is wired differently, although it isn’t actually stated, Don is clearly on the Autism scale, probably Asperger, ironically what he is studying!!

Then a curve ball is thrown in……..Rosie!

Rosie is the complete opposite of what Don “thinks” he wants, she smokes, drinks, swears like a sailor and has bright red hair.

This book was very funny and I enjoyed it very much, it made me laugh out loud quite a few times reading the antics that they get up to, and Dons general weirdness.

The Female of the Species #flashbackfriday

The Female of the Species

The Female of the Species by Mindy McGinnis

5 brutally brilliant stars🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Blurb

A contemporary YA novel that examines rape culture through alternating perspectives.

Alex Craft knows how to kill someone. And she doesn’t feel bad about it.

Three years ago, when her older sister, Anna, was murdered and the killer walked free, Alex uncaged the language she knows best—the language of violence. While her own crime goes unpunished, Alex knows she can’t be trusted among other people. Not with Jack, the star athlete who wants to really know her but still feels guilty over the role he played the night Anna’s body was discovered. And not with Peekay, the preacher’s kid with a defiant streak who befriends Alex while they volunteer at an animal shelter. Not anyone.

As their senior year unfolds, Alex’s darker nature breaks out, setting these three teens on a collision course that will change their lives forever.

Review

Wow! This book was brutal, dark, raw, and reel…..

Violence begets violence… Alex has always had a little something… a little spark of anger in her…. and her sister kept it in check.;. until her sister was raped and murdered….

Then she sought vengeance….. she also felt as though she would never be normal…… when she befriended Claire and fell in love with Jack…. she felt as though perhaps she had a chance… a chance to live a normal life…..

BUT as we all know in life bad things happen….

This book made a very strong statement about rape, girls, and slut shaming…. even the words on the bathroom walls made you realize that as women or girls we need to spend more time building one another up rather than tearing each other down…. and the end of this book, so brutal, but absolutely the only way I think it could end…

In every species, the female of the species is more deadly…

An absolute must read if you are a fan of dark books with amazing characters and a powerful message!

Be Thoughtful,

Berit
