Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren

My Thoughts

4.5 Fun Flirty Fabulous Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟💫

This! Book! What an absolutely adorable sweet and funny romcom with the perfect amount of steam and sizzle🔥

Hazel is being added to my book BFF list and might even have earned the top spot!!! Hazel is a friend you want by your side and somebody you wish you were more like… she had such a fabulous sense of who she was and was not willing to compromise herself for anyone… she had a heart of gold and a tremendous passion for life…. she was also loud, eccentric, and had an unusual fashion sense…. As somebody who is too concerned with what everyone else thinks, I really need some Hazel in my life and in my personality… and Josh? Well he wasn’t too bad either…😉

This was probably one of the absolute best friends to lovers books I have ever read… convinced that they are completely wrong for one another, and after Josh is cheated on and ends a two year long relationship… josh and Hazel begin setting each other up on blind dates…. most of these blind dates were disastrous and hilarious… I found myself laughing out loud quite a bit throughout this book…. I mean we’ve all been on bad dates, so this part was so tremendously relatable and a lot of fun!

Also really loved how important family was in this book… Hazel had an equally eccentric mother, and the bond between them was undeniable… josh’s family was equally fabulous, I loved how accepting they were of Hazel…. i’d also really love Josh‘s mom to cook some Korean food for me!

Beautifully told with some pretty darn amazing characters! This book had it all… humor, romance, friendship, family, pets, food, and sizzle! Absolutely recommend to fans of this writing team, and if you aren’t a fan already pick this book up and you will become one!

About the Book

Hazel Camille Bradford knows she’s a lot to take—and frankly, most men aren’t up to the challenge. If her army of pets and thrill for the absurd don’t send them running, her lack of filter means she’ll say exactly the wrong thing in a delicate moment. Their loss. She’s a good soul in search of honest fun.

Josh Im has known Hazel since college, where her zany playfulness proved completely incompatible with his mellow restraint. From the first night they met—when she gracelessly threw up on his shoes—to when she sent him an unintelligible email while in a post-surgical haze, Josh has always thought of Hazel more as a spectacle than a peer. But now, ten years later, after a cheating girlfriend has turned his life upside down, going out with Hazel is a breath of fresh air.

Not that Josh and Hazel date. At least, not each other. Because setting each other up on progressively terrible double blind dates means there’s nothing between them…right?

4.5 Startling Stars🌟 When the Lights Go Out by Mary Kubica @MaryKubica @HarlequinBooks #BookReview #PubDay

Happy Tuesday that seems like a Monday! Those long weekends always throw me off!

Thrilled to share with you my review for this suspense filled book with a bit of a controversial ending, that I personally loved!💕

When the Lights Go Out by Mary Kubica

My Thoughts

4.5 Startling Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟💫

WOW! Whether intentional or not this book definitely has an ending that has caused some controversy… for me the ending was absolute PERFECTION! It made every piece of the puzzle in this book fall into place and make complete sense….I’ve read other reviews and people described their reaction to the twist as a gasp, or frustration, or pure hatred… not me… my reaction was…. AHA! now I understand….. now I get what ____ was,And why ____ happened! This is not to say I don’t understand why this ending did not appeal to everybody, because I do… but I think everyone needs to read the book and figure out if it works for them or not….

This was my very first Mary Kubica Book… and I’m not sure why, but I can guarantee I will remedy that real quick…. her writing was so beautiful and smooth, almost lyrical…. even though this was a slow burning suspense I found the pacing perfect… The characters were so well drawn and relatable… I empathized with Eden’s struggles and felt Jessie’s grief…. all the little hints sprinkled throughout this book that made that ending so perfect for me, were just brilliant….

Told from Jesse’s point of view in the present and Eden’s point of view in 1996…. Jesse is a young 20-year-old grieving the loss of her mother and trying to figure out who she really is… literally trying to figure out who she is, after finding out that her Social Security number belongs to a dead girl… eden is a young wife struggling with infertility…. my mind ran through so many scenarios as to who Jesse really was and what Eden had done…. both mother and daughter had tremendous love and respect for one another… you just wanted there to be a good answer for all of your questions….

Absolutely recommend to those who enjoy a good suspense thriller filled with some surprising twists….

4.5 Intensely Engrossing Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟💫 This book was no bunny slope, it was a black diamond run all the way! Or is the answer more dark and complicated than that? How many secrets run through this family and what have they done to protect them?

I was probably suspicious of every single character in this book at one time or another with the exception of Mindy…. told from the perspective of multiple characters… you really saw this scenario unfold from every angle…. I thought this was such an impactful way to tell the story it kept me completely engrossed until I reach the finish line…. secrets leading to lies, lies leading to secrets, nobody ever knowing who to believe…. and in the middle of this crazy storm a girl who is fighting for her life!

So without further ado….. the first Book to receive our…

Book Bestie Seal of Approval

Not Her Daughter by Rea Frey

My Thoughts

4.5 Compellingly Complicated Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟💫

WOW! You’ve got to love a book that makes you question everything! A book that blurs the line between right and wrong… good and bad… lies and truth… what makes a “good“ mother? Blood? Love? It is the hardest job you’ll ever do and yet no one teaches you how to be a mother… there is no class, no certification, unless you consider those eggs you had to carry around in high school and pretend were a baby… anybody else do this? Being a mother is the most important job you’ll ever do and yet it is all trial and error… and just because you are a woman doesn’t mean you are cut out for motherhood and there really should be no shame in that…. not everybody is cut out to be a dentist either and no one ever seems to shame you about that… but I digress….

This is not your ordinary kidnapping story…Sarah is a strong single business woman who recently had her heartbroken… Amy is an overwhelms unhappy mother of two…. after two chance encounters with Amy and her beautiful five-year-old daughter Emma, Sarah is determined to “save“ Emma from her abusive situation… Sarah herself had a difficult childhood, a neglectful mother who eventually left her, and a father who never got over the mother who left…. so in “saving“ Emma, Sarah was really also saving herself…. but is doing something wrong ever right?

This book was a crazy ride that had me questioning my ethics at every turn…. it made me keep asking myself, “what would I do in this situation?“ told from both Sarah and Amy‘s point of view… you really got a glimpse into both of these women’s lives…. I found this tremendously impactful, not everything about Amy was bad and not everything about Sarah was good…. so who would be the better mother to Emma? And is the better choice the right choice? So many important questions and no easy answers…

This is Rea Frey’s fictional debut, and what a Way too make a splash into the book world! This is the kind of book that sucks you in from the very beginning and won’t let you go even after it is done, I am seriously still contemplating this book and it has been a few days… perfectly paste with extremely well drawn characters, I seriously think I would recognize Sarah and Amy if I saw them walking down the street… Color me impressed! And I cannot wait to see what we have coming next from this extremely talented author!

Absolutely recommend whether you are a thriller lover or not, this was one of the most thought-provoking books I’ve read all year!

*** many thanks to St. Martin’s Press for my copy of this book ***

Amy Townsend. Unhappy wife. Unfit mother. Unsure whether she wants her daughter back.

4.5 Marvelous Stars🌟 The Other Woman by Sandie Jones @realsandiejones #BookReview

Happy Sunday bibliophiles!

Thrilled to share with you my review for this fabulous book that left me speechless!

The Other Woman by Sandie Jones

My Thoughts

4.5 Marvelously Manipulative Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟.5

WOW! HOT damn! Another Flippin fantastic read! With an ending that left me speechless… and anyone that knows me knows how difficult that is! This is a book best gone into blind… I’d recommend reading very few reviews, but read mind of course!😉

What do you do when the “other woman“ is your significant other’s mother? And to clarify what I mean by this is your S/O is overly emotionally tied to his mother…. I mean like he drop everything to go buy her some Tylenol, if she felt a headache coming on, and he deliver it to her even though she lives an hour away and it’s two in the morning…. And even worse what if she is a controlling, manipulative, and condescending mother? Ugh just the thought of it makes me quiver, can’t even imagine! But boy oh boy did it make for a good book… I was completely invested in the story from first page to last….

Emily thinks she has met the man of her dreams… the one… her forever… and everything is going perfectly until…. she meets… Pammie *insert scary music* Pammie was a fabulous character that you loved loved loved to hate… Emily was a really relatable and likable character, all she wanted to do was find love… and then her life got turned on its head, by this crazy lady… not sure if her boyfriend Adam was worth all this angst… but sometimes we can get fixated and not see the forest for the trees…

For me this was just an entertaining compelling character study with just the perfect dose of crazy… with a stand out villain and a bit of a helpless heroine, Who eventually finds her strength! I loved every single interaction between these ladies, I was riveted! And I loved hating Pammie right along with Emily! I seriously was talking to the book throughout, I might’ve said a few choice words🤬

What a wonderful debut! Major props to Sandie Jones and I cannot wait to see what you have in store for me next! Absolutely recommend if you enjoy a good character driven thriller with a heck of an ending!

*** many thanks to St. Martin’s Press for my copy of this fab book ***

About the Book

A deliciously disturbing, compulsively readable debut domestic suspense–prepare to meet The Other Woman: there’s nothing she won’t do to keep you away from her son …

Emily thinks Adam’s perfect; the man she thought she’d never meet. But lurking in the shadows is a rival; a woman who shares a deep bond with the man she loves.

Emily chose Adam, but she didn’t choose his mother Pammie. There’s nothing a mother wouldn’t do for her son, and now Emily is about to find out just how far Pammie will go to get what she wants: Emily gone forever.

The Other Woman is an addictive, fast-paced psychological thriller about the destructive relationship between Emily, her boyfriend Adam, and his manipulative mother Pammie.

4.5 Mesmerizing Stars🌟 The Girl in the Letter by Emily Gunnis @EmilyGunnis @annecater #BookReview #RandomThingsTours

Hope you are having a lovely Monday!

Excited to be on the blog tour and share with you today my review for this compelling book! Many thanks to Anne Cater for my invitation!💕

A great book, truly hard to put down. Fast paced, brilliantly plotted and desperately sad at times – all hallmarks of a bestseller’ Lesley Pearse on The Girl in the Letter

Perfect for fans of Kate Morton and Kathryn Hughes, this gripping novel of long-buried secrets will stay with you for ever.

A heartbreaking letter. A girl locked away.  A mystery to be solved.

1956. When Ivy Jenkins falls pregnant she is sent in disgrace to St Margaret’s, a dark, brooding house for unmarried mothers. Her baby is adopted against her will. Ivy will never leave.

Present day. Samantha Harper is a journalist desperate for a break. When she stumbles on a letter from the past, the contents shock and move her. The letter is from a young mother, begging to be rescued from St Margaret’s. Before it is too late.
Sam is pulled into the tragic story and discovers a spate of unexplained deaths surrounding the woman and her child. With St Margaret’s set for demolition, Sam has only hours to piece together a sixty-year-old mystery before the truth, which lies disturbingly close to home, is lost for ever…

Read her letter. Remember her story…

My Thoughts

4.5 Mesmerizing Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟.5

This was such a heart wrenching captivating story very reminiscent of “before We Were Yours”; One of my top reads of 2017… i’m not a big fan of comparing books, but in this case it is almost impossible not to… from the duel timelines to the horrific treatment of children steeped in history… if you enjoyed BWWY you will absolutely be entranced by this book as well….

There are so many layers to the story… so many well-developed multi dimensional characters, but one character really stood out to me… Ivy in my opinion was the true hero of this book… her letters really tour at my heartstrings… whisked away from her family to a home for unmarried women…. where she was treated horribly and made to give up her baby…. through all of this she maintained her humanity and her compassion…. and in her darkest of moments her thoughts were not of her self but of another… truly isn’t this The definition of a mother? Well apparently in the 50s and 60s being unmarried trumped unconditional love…. so many parts of this portion of the story were frustrating and sad…. and truly the saddest part of all is it is part of our history…. yes this Book took place in the UK, but we would be remiss to think it did not happen in the US as well….

Where the past timeline of the story was steeped in history the present day timeline was steeped in mystery… Samantha a struggling reporter, finds one of Ivy‘s letters clutched in her grandma‘s hand when she comes across her napping in the rocking chair… curious by nature Samantha doesn’t buy her grandma’s story… so why does Samantha’s grandmother have this letter? and what happens to the girl in the letter? You will need to read this book to find out the mystery and the real story behind these letters…. I guarantee you will be as enthralled as I was… as more and more secrets of the past are revealed I was more and more invested in this story…

Absolutely recommend to fans of a book with a well researched dose of history and a well developed mystery…

4.5 BIG Stars🌟 Our House by Louise Candlish @louise_candlish @BerkleyPub #BookReview

Happy hump day y’all!

Thrilled to share with you my review for this brilliant book!😍

My Thoughts

4.5 Stars Filled With Madness 🌟🌟🌟🌟.5

Our House by Louise Candlish

🎵Father wears his Sunday best

Mother’s tired she needs a rest

The kids are playing up downstairs

Sister’s sighing in her sleep

Brother’s got a date to keep

He can’t hang around

Our house, in the middle of our street

Our house, in the middle of our

Our house it has a crowd

There’s always something happening

And it’s usually quite loud

Our mum she’s so house-proud

Nothing ever slows her down

And a mess is not allowed

-Madness-Our House 1982

Fiona was certainly house proud, but whether or not she liked a mess she certainly found herself in the middle of one… imagine returning home to find someone else has moved into your house… The problem? As far as you know your house was never for sale… and why can you not reach your ex-husband on his phone? Where is your stuff, where are your children? Sounds dreadful, doesn’t it?

The unraveling of this story was quite brilliant… told from Fiona‘s perspective through podcast episodes… Fiona was such a likable generous person who absolutely put her children before all else…. and truly this “bird nest “custody arrangement really played nicely into her house being sold right out from under her… BUT I’m absolutely not going to blame the victim here! We also got Brahm’s perspective through a letter/word doc…. now it was really hard for me to elicit any sympathy for him, he really was a reckless selfish individual…. The one good thing I can say about him is I do think he truly loved his wife and children, he just didn’t know how to go about it…. but what a horrible mess he left for Fiona to clean up!

Along with the podcast and word doc we also got the real time story… this was a TS read and some of the sisters found this to be repetitive…. however, I did not… I really liked getting to see events unfold from both Fiona and Brahm’s points of view… and I felt the use of different medias really kept it fresh….

This book was such a crazy ride! Such a rollercoaster… I got all buckled in and then… that huge hill that starts your heart kmbeating faster and fills you with anticipation… and just when you least expect it you’re headed down that huge hill being turned upside down and then you come to a screeching slamming jarring stop!…. that really is this book so many twists, so many turns, and an ending that will leave you reeling!

Strongly recommend this book to all psychological thriller lovers and I hope you enjoy the ride!

*** many thanks to Berkley for my copy of this book ***

About the Book

On a bright January morning in the London suburbs, a family moves into the house they’ve just bought in Trinity Avenue.

When Fiona Lawson comes home to find strangers moving into her house, she’s sure there’s been a mistake. She and her estranged husband, Bram, have a modern co-parenting arrangement: bird’s nest custody, where each parent spends a few nights a week with their two sons at the prized family home to maintain stability for their children. But the system built to protect their family ends up putting them in terrible jeopardy. In a domino effect of crimes and misdemeanors, the nest comes tumbling down.

Now Bram has disappeared and so have Fiona’s children. As events spiral well beyond her control, Fiona will discover just how many lies her husband was weaving and how little they truly knew each other. Cottage By The Sea by Debbie Macomber @debbiemacomber @randomhouse #BookReview

Happy weekend everybody!

Excited to bring you my review for this delightful book! The perfect summer read🏖

Cottage by the Sea by Debbie Macomber

My Thoughts

4.5 heart Warming Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Debbie Macomber! We’re not on Blossom Street anymore! This book had all the feels… it touched on every single emotion you have! Wow… just wow!

I picked up this book expecting a sweet fluffy love story and what I got was so much more… this was a book about loss, heartbreak, friendship, family, second chances, and so much more… at times during this book I was reaching for a tissue and at other times I couldn’t get the big smile off my face… what a beautiful story about resilience and peoples need for one another…

Annie has suffered a major tragedy… so to heal her wounded heart she returns to a favorite vacation spot from when she was a kid…Annie was a tremendously likable character and you really felt for her and wanted her heart to heal…Keaton was a big strong insecure man who made you want to reach through the pages to give him a big hug and tell him he is a good person! The relationship between these two was so lovely and so much more than a simple romance… it was a healing love… The secondary characters in the story added even more emotion to this book…. The book touched on some pretty serious subject matter, but it handled it with grace and thought….

I think this is Debbie Macomber’s best book yet! So if you are a fan of this author I cannot encourage you enough to pick this one up and if you have not read anything from her yet… what are you waiting for? This is a book about the power of love, but it is so much more than a romance! The love in this book is not only romantic love, but the love between friends… so as much as I adored the romance between Keaton and Annie, I loved the friendship that bloomed between all these characters in this book!

Absolutely recommend… you will want to find your own cottage by the sea💕

*** many thanks to Valentine Books for my copy of this delightful book ***

4.5 Scrumptious Stars🌟 The Little Cornish Kitchen by Jane Linfoot @janelinfoot @rararesources #BookReview #Giveaway

Happy Sunday book lovers!

Delighted to share with you my review for this wonderful book! Many thanks to Rachel for my invitation to the blog tour and to Jane Linfoot for her charming story😍

The Little Cornish Kitchen

It’s time to come home to Cornwall

With an exciting new life in Paris, Clemmie Hamilton isn’t looking forward to heading home to the picturesque but sleepy village of St Aidan, Cornwall. However, when she discovers that the cosy apartment by the sea, which her grandmother left to her, is under threat from neighbour and property developer, Charlie Hobson, Clemmie realises she can’t abandon her home in its time of need.

With her childhood friends encouraging her, Clemmie decides to turn the apartment into ‘The Little Cornish Kitchen’ – a boutique pop up pudding club raising money for the repairs to the building in an effort to stop Charlie once and for all. But when Charlie and his easy charm won’t seem to go away, everything soon becomes even messier than the state of Clemmie’s Cornish kitchen…

My Thoughts

4.5 Scrumptious Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟.5

Clemmie is being added to my ever-growing book BFF list! Loved her and her group of friends… you know the friendship is real when you are willing to dress up like a mermaid not just once but twice for your friends…. Tail and all! I’d love to go to the Little Cornish Kitchen and have a macaroon or two with these girls!

Clemmie has wanderlust never staying anywhere for too long… so when she returns home to check out the flat she is inherited from her grandmother, it is only temporary… even though she is enchanted by her grandmother’s eclectic beach front flat filled with memories, she insists this is still temporary… when she learns the repair costs of the flat she is determined to hold onto it… she especially does not want to sell it to her pushy neighbor Charlie… so she cooks something up to earn some money, still insisting this is temporary…

Clemmie and friends open a Singles/putting pop-up… with Clemmie making lots of yummy goodies from her grandmothers basket of recipes…. with several mishaps in the kitchen and frequent visits from her neighbor Charlie and his furry friends, this book kept me laughing and hungry! Loved the slow burning romance between clammy and Charlie…. and Charlie was quite brilliant he befriended all of her friends as well! The best way to a girls heart is through her friends, right?

Such a delightful book filled with fun, friendship, family, and yummy food! And I didn’t even mention the bit about Clemmie‘s long-lost father and brothers… Jane Linfoot I would be more than happy to visit the Little Cornish Kitchen in a future book, hint, hint!

An absolutely perfect summer read that will make your heart beat faster and your stomach rumble…

4.5 Bewitching Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

This was a young adult thriller with a paranormal twist and it was brilliant! I’d like to encourage you to read this book with an open mind and the understanding that not everything in this book is “believable“… because the only way it is possible for somebody to investigate their own murder is for there to be a supernatural element… requiring us the reader to stretch our imagination…. for me this just was the perfect shift making an ordinary story extraordinary!

17-year-old Eleanor wakes up on a river bank with no memory of how she got there… is she dead? Is she alive? Is she a ghost? People can see her, she can walk, she can talk… but she cannot smell, taste, feel, and she is oh so cold… now Eleanor is determined to figure out what happened the night before she ended up in the river and who tried to kill her… and will they try again?

Eleanor was such a likable character… I loved playing detective right along with her, everyone was a suspect… her boyfriend, her best friend, her brother, the guy working at the local diner… I must give a special S/O to that diner love the idea of a wall filled with cassette tapes…. antique cassette tapes… ugh makes me feel old!

This truly is a genre defying book that I strongly encourage you to give a try! This was one of the best young adult books I’ve read this year and the uniqueness and supernatural element of the story should really appeal to a broad audience of younger readers…. I also need to give Kerry Wilkinson major props… as a grown man he did a phenomenal job of writing a book from a female teenager’s perspective… I certainly hope this is not his last young adult book, because I for one am looking forward to many more!

Absolutely recommend to readers of all ages, this was a well-done thriller with a unique twist!

*** many thanks to Bookouture for my copy of this wonderful book ***
