Q & A with Andi Arndt #Narrator #Audiobook @andi_arndt

Happy Sunday everybody!

Today we have an extra special treat for you all; an amazing interview that my lovely blog partner Vicci did with one of our absolute favorite female audiobook narrators Andi Arndt😍

Andi Arndt

*About Andi Arndt

Andi Arndt’s voice has been described as “welcoming,” “calm,” “clear,” and “sublime”, and listeners are known to rave that she “makes you feel all the feels”—which is exactly what you want from one of the most popular and beloved romance narrators working today. While Arndt is not exclusively wedded to the romance genre (more on that later), her work in it has certainly garnered her an immense and enthusiastic fan base.

While she had been performing romance for some time, it was Kylie Scott’s Stage Dive series that served as her first foray into what Arndt calls “blockbustery-feeling” romance; this is where her fan base latched on, and she quickly became the go-to for the erotic contemporary genre. She is the voice behind such huge hits as Emma Chase’s The Royals series, and her performance of Broken Juliet earned her a spot in AudioFile Magazine’s “Best Voices of 2015” in romance. Beyond romance Arndt has had hits in psychological thrillers, YA, and nonfiction (she voiced Notorious RBG!), but perhaps her favorite non-romance genre is memoirs.

And Andi Arndt isn’t just an amazing narrator—she’s also given back to the industry a great deal. She taught acting and Voice for the Stage at James Madison University in Virginia for 12 years and has been an actor, producer, director, and vocal coach for stage productions and live readings. She is also trained to teach Kristin Linklater’s method of voice.

Andi Arndt lives in the Shenandoah Valley region of Virginia with her family. And whenever she overhears her two teenage daughters whispering and shushing each other in her proximity, she is happy to chime in, “You know, whatever it is, I probably have said it out loud multiple times, so just go for it. We can talk about it.”*

AKTBM: Audio Killed the Bookmark

AA: Andi Arndt

AKTBM: How did you become an audio book narrator?

AA: I have a background in both radio and theatre, and realized I could combine what I loved about both and be an audiobook narrator. It’s a very competitive market though, so it took me a few years to get a foot in the door.

AKTBM: What might be a typical routine for you, before sitting down to record?

AA: It varies. I try to get a nice morning walk in if I can, make sure I brush my teeth and use my Navage machine to clear my sinuses. Then I log into my computer, open my recording software, open my script, maybe listen back to where I left off the day before to get my head back in the game, look at how many pages I need to get done that day, and I get going.

AKTBM: You narrate quite a lot of dual audio books. Do you have a favorite person to work with?

AA: Well as much as I love to work with the gentlemen, there’s something equally special about having a chance to work with some of my female colleagues. Xe Sands, Carol Monda, Donna Postel…and I am co-narrating with Ava Erickson coming up later this fall too. I’m so lucky to have fantastic, supportive co-narrators.

AKTBM: Do you have a recording studio in your home, or do you go into a studio to record?

AA: Usually my home studio, but I’ve recorded in some pretty cool studios too. I get unreasonably giddy whenever I get to tour or work in a new studio. They’re such interesting and often beautifully designed spaces. Acoustic engineering is a pretty fascinating field, all the different things they can do to make sound waves behave.

AKTBM: Are you an audio book listener, do you prefer print, or are you *gasp* a non reader?

AA: I read and listen, though these days I’m more likely to listen to performances by other narrators, both because it’s a rest for my eyes, but also because I always learn something from listening to other actors working. I’m reminded of the things I have “permission” to do in my own work. I tried some graphic novels last winter, did Boxers / Saints by Gene Luen Yang, and that was fun too, as well as being easy on the eyes.

AKTBM: If you are a listener / reader, what genres do you prefer?

AA: I go on jags. I’ll eat up a bunch of a particular author, like Edith Wharton or Annie Proulx or Stephen King or Joan Didion or Dave Eggers. Or things will sort of daisy-chain, like I picked up a Ken Follett novel on vacation once (was free in the little town’s book exchange), which led to Follett’s Pillars of the Earth, then of course I had to read World Without End. That book has to do with the plague at one point, and when I mentioned my fascination with the topic to my neighbor, she suggested Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks, which was also excellent.

I like biographies and memoirs of actors and musicians—Lauren Bacall’s By Myself is a great one. In audio, Tina Fey’s Bossypants and Amy Poehler’s Yes, Please are great as a set. And of course I’m lucky that in my 9 to 5, I read some of the best romance being written today.

AKTBM: What do your friends / family think of your job? Do they listen to your books or do they tease you because of some of the content?

AA: When my mom’s friends say they’d like to hear something I’ve narrated, she’ll say “well, she reads a lot of romance,” and sometimes her friends are like “yeah, awesome, so do I!” And sometimes they say “oh, well I‘ll find something else maybe.” People should read what they enjoy. Nobody really teases me about my job. My husband is proud of me, and my daughters have seen me build my business from scratch, which is something I’m very proud of. The hard thing sometimes is that I look like I’m home, but I’m not actually available because I’m still working. I’m sure anyone who works from home can relate. My dog will just flat-out stare at me if he thinks it’s time for me to stop for the day.

AKTBM: Because you are such a hit in the audio world, are you surprised about the fan base you have, and has anyone recognized you because of your voice?

AA: I am constantly surprised! My day to day life is very solitary, so when I have gone to author events in the last couple of years, it’s been fun to meet the people on the other end of the audio signal and talk with them about what they like. I’m grateful for the response, and romance fans are a great community.

Nobody has really recognized me because of my voice though. The only time that’s ever happened was when I worked in public radio.

AKTBM: What would be the best way for fans of yours to follow you?

AA: I’m most active on facebook at my narrator page ( and I also check in on twitter at @andi_arndt and instagram @offmicandi from time to time. Every once in a while I’ll go live on Instgram and just read a little of whatever I’m reading that day.

AKTBM: You are a 1 click narrator for me, regardless of the author. Because of this, I have discovered some new fabulous writers. Is there a certain book you have narrated that you are particularly proud of?

AA: Well, at the time of this writing, the book I most want to talk about is still “embargoed” (I can’t say anything about it yet), but was completely absorbing and I’m still thinking about some of the themes it deals with. I would love to point people in the direction of Weightless by Sarah Bannan and Hold Still by Lynn Steger Strong.

Romance-wise, it’s impossible to list all the writers I want to shine the spotlight on, and I have loved having a front seat to the growth of some pretty great writers, seeing how their art and craft evolve over time, how their interests lead them in different directions. That’s really cool.

AKTBM: Last question: How would you recommend starting, to anyone interested in becoming an audio book narrator?

AA: Take my intro class! I do it once a year, and just opened the application process for this year’s group. I teach it online to a very small group. We cover the basics of the art, tech, and business of audiobook narration. You can find more info at

Thank you so much Andi for taking the time to answer these questions for our little blog, it is very much appreciated, and our Fangirl Flags are flying high.

🌟🌟🌟🌟Tequila Sunrise Stars

He’s her patient. She’s his doctor. They shouldn’t. But God, do they want to.

Camden Harris, the famously hot, hulk of a footballer is laid up in a London hospital. But his busted knee doesn’t stop him from running his well-practiced game on Indie Porter—his redheaded spitfire of a doctor. She’s not his type, not even close. But she could be the perfect distraction from the soul-crushing damage this injury could cost him.

Indie’s tired of her naivety putting a target on her back. As a gifted child, she’s let her education take the front seat her whole life. But a fling with a footballer like Camden might be just what she needs to grab life by the balls.

And he could be the perfect guy for the plan she’s been sitting on for over two years.

But when feelings make a final play, there’s no amount of medicine that can heal the damage to their hearts.

I was really nervous about listening to this one because a FB group that i am in, the author and the narrator are always in there, and they are so lovely.
I was scared because it was duet narration and that is a little bit hit and miss for me, it just sounds a little bit weird and my head doesn’t like it, so i was so worried that i would hate it and have to leave a bad review.

Anyhoo, i had nothing to worry about as this story was fab, and the narration was WOOHOO!!!

Indie Porter is an up an coming surgeon and has a glittering future ahead of her, that is until she walks into the room holding Camden “cam” Harris, a famous football player for Bethnal Green.

Camden is sweet, charming and cocky and sends Indie into a tizz, she’s not sure what to do about the feelings that she has for Cam, does she go for it, or does she keep him at arms length?

I loved the family dynamics in his book, Cam’s family is really close knit and as Indie discovers have no secrets between each other, the complete opposite for her as she has missed out on a lot of experiences, and set her future in stone without any deviations.

🎧🎧 As i said earlier on i was a little nervous going in to this book because of the duet narration thing, but silly me i shouldn’t have worried, Will Watt and Charlotte Cole were fabulous together, and a little cameo from Martin Foster made this book a super fun listen.

Will Indie choose penis number 1, 2 or 3 from her Tequila Sunrise list?

You’ll have to spend a credit to find out !!

The Studying Hours (How to Date a Douchebag #1) by Sara Ney – @SaraNey @MuffyNewtown #JoshGoodman #Romance #NewAdult #LaughOutLoud

Happy Monday guys, I hope this weather stays for a little while longer, I’m loving not having to wear jumpers and a coat every day.

I have recently jumped in and become a Romance Package member of Audible and I’m using it to my full advantage! It’s like Kindle Unlimited for audios, and I’m LOVING it.

I picked up this little cracker and listened to it over the weekend.

⭐⭐⭐⭐·5 Cardigan Wearing Stars

No doubt about it, Sebastian ‘Oz’ Osborne is the university’s most celebrated student athlete—and possibly the biggest douchebag. A walking, talking cliché, he has a filthy mouth, a fantastic body, and doesn’t give a sh*t about what you or anyone else thinks.

Make no mistake, Jameson Clarke may be the university’s most diligent student—but she is no prude. Spending most of her time in the hallowed halls of the library, James is wary of pervs, jocks, and douchebags—and Oz Osborne is all three.

She’s smart, sarcastic—and not what he expected.

He wants to be friends.
He wants to spend time with her.
He wants to drive her crazy.

He wants…

⭐⭐⭐⭐·5 Cardigan Wearing Stars!

Jameson ‘James’ Clark is an exceptional student and works hard at it, she dresses in very conservative clothes, and wears pearls, but she is no prude!

Sebastian ‘Oz’ Osbourne is the darling of the high school, a wrestling champ, and the guy that all of the girls want to bang, which he takes full advantage of.

After a bet with his friends in the library to get “the prude” to kiss him, you would think that the story would turn into the usual girl swooning and turning into putty in his hands…….but nope!
James gives as good as she gets and makes him work for it.

I loved this story, loved the 2 of them together, loved the banter between them.

The angst and steam level between Oz and James is a slow burn, turning into an inferno!

The story is witty, funny and made me laugh all the way through.

🎧🎧 Narrated by Josh Goodman who is a new narrator for me, and Muffy Newtown who is just a narration goddess #VoiceCrush
These 2 narrators were perfect together, they bounced off of each other brilliantly.

Prepare for a bucket of laughter

All Our Yesterdays by Cristin Terrill

⭐⭐⭐⭐·5 WTF Stars!!

Em is locked in a bare, cold cell with no comforts. Finn is in the cell next door. The Doctor is keeping them there until they tell him what he wants to know. Trouble is, what he wants to know hasn’t happened yet.

Em and Finn have a shared past, but no future unless they can find a way out. The present is torture – being kept apart, overhearing each other’s anguish as the Doctor relentlessly seeks answers. There’s no way back from here, to what they used to be, the world they used to know. Then Em finds a note in her cell which changes everything. It’s from her future self and contains some simple but very clear instructions. Em must travel back in time to avert a tragedy that’s about to unfold. Worse, she has to pursue and kill the boy she loves to change the future.

This one is going to be really difficult to review as it is a complete mind f**k!

So we 1st meet Em, she is in a cell and has been tortured horribly by “The Doctor”. In the cell next door is a boy called Fin, even though they have not seen each other they have a very strong connection, and she knows that she loves him.

Em manages to escape her cell and with Fin in tow they make there way to “Cassandra” a time machine, and is whisked into the future to escape the Doctors clutches.

We then meet Marina, she is a typical teenage girl, with a crush on James next door.
James is older than her, but they have been best friends for years, James is super clever and has passed all of his exams etc. 3 years before everyone else and has a very important job.

James’ s best friend and the bane of Marina’s life is Fin Abbot……………yes I know what you are thinking.

The story flips back and forth between Em and Marina, slowly piecing a puzzle together, until you realise that Em, Marina and Fin are somewhat of a mystery!

She hates him in one life and loves him in another……how?? And who the hell is “The Doctor”?
Well that would just be a spoiler now wouldn’t it !!

🎧🎧 Great narration by Meredith Mitchell who really played each character brilliantly, and didn’t make it confusing, that would have been really difficult to understand an already confusing book 😱

A very enjoyable 4•5☆ debut read.

Get those heads scratching!

The Story of Us

The Story of Us by Lesley Jones

⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 Didn’t See That Coming Stars!

I love him, from the instant I set eyes on him when I was just 11 years old I have loved him and nothing will ever change that, he owns me, he owns my heart and he owns my body and no matter how many lies are told, no matter how many people conspire to keep us apart, despite the fame and the distance, we will find a way.

“Georgia Rae, when we made love you used to cry” … He waits for me to sing my bit. I try to swallow down a sob but I just end up singing through it…
“I said I love you like the stars above, I’ll love you till I die”

Carnage is an edgy coming of age love story that breaks all the rules and transcends the decades. Georgia and Sean’s story will stay with you long after you read the final word.
An emotional, smoking hot, gut wrenching read.

NOTE: This is part #1 of a 2 part story but can be read as a stand alone.

Well this was a lovely story, albeit heart-wrenching.

Meet Georgia-Rae she is 11 years old…….She meets Sean, who is 13, and they both decide that they have met the loves of their lives and will never love anyone else again ….EVER!

Sean and Georgia become a “thing” and stay, and are very happy together, Sean is in a band called Carnage and is gigging around pubs and clubs and becoming quite a big name around the place, until they get spotted by a talent scout and they hit the big time!

The thing is, by this time Georgia is only 16 years old and is still at school, so she can’t follow him around the world, so she follows Carnage from afar and meets up with him when she can.

Sean in the mean time has got himself caught up in the rock-star lifestyle with drugs and alcohol and is getting himself into a bit of a mess.

This becomes evident one day after a huge silly mistake on Sean’s part splits the 2 lovers apart and doesn’t reconcile them until 4-5 years later.

In the meantime Georgia has met and started to have feelings again, and maybe has some real feelings for Cameron King, a big-time London crook, who knows of her family through her father.

Of course the story wouldn’t be complete without Georgia and Sean, but do they find their way back to each other?? Does Cameron stay in the picture??
will your little heart be torn out and stamped on??? Probably!!

🎧🎧 Great narration by Nikki Delgado, i went into this book completely blind so i had no idea that it was even set in the UK, She has a lovely accent and doesn’t sound like the usual posh Mary Poppins British narrators that i have become accustomed to.

~My Review~

5 Tension Filled Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Well HOT damn this book was just… brilliant! Full disclosure I was running behind on my reviews so I purchased this on audio on release day and I was even a little hesitant because I saw the author was narrating…. not always a good thing, but I had no idea that Catherine Steadman is an actress…. and after finishing this book I now know she is also a fantastic author and audiobook narrator!!! Simply amazing! Seriously if I could I would give her narration six stars, it was really exceptional! And this book kept me on the edge of my seat from about 30% on…

Erin and Mark are a happy newly married couple on their honeymoon in Bora Bora… they are having a wonderful time in this tropical paradise until…thunk thunk… there is something in the water…. and what it is will alter this couple’s lives…. from this point on the tension is ramped up and I felt as though I was on the edge of my seat throughout… so many thoughts… what would I do in this situation? What is the ethical thing to do?

Erin and Mark were both fabulous characters… they both handled the situation so differently and I found that part so compelling and true….Erin was very bold about it all and didn’t always think things through, in fact sometimes she did some really stupid things… Mark on the other hand was more cautious, not much of a risk taker, although he was usually fine with his wife taking a risk…. I have to say I was both surprised and a little disappointed by both of these characters at points in this book….

There is also a very fascinating side story in this book… Erin is filming a documentary about prisoners about to be released…. Eddie, Holly, and Alexa were all strong, interesting, and well-developed characters…. I found each of their storys compelling and unique…. definitely added another layer to this already wonderful book…. and the voice of eddie is absolutely the best in this audio!

This really was a book unlike any other I have read before… it was very refreshing…. absolutely recommend to everybody regardless of your reading preferences!

*** thank you to the publisher for my copy of this brilliant book ***

Stay out of the water!🦈🦈🦈 Berit 💛

Every Note Played by Lisa Genova @LisaGenova #AudiobookReview #ALS #UglyCryRead

Every Note Played

Every Note Played by Lisa Genova

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Heartbreaking Stars

An accomplished concert pianist, Richard received standing ovations from audiences all over the world in awe of his rare combination of emotional resonance and flawless technique. Every finger of his hands was a finely calibrated instrument, dancing across the keys and striking each note with exacting precision. That was eight months ago.

Richard now has ALS, and his entire right arm is paralyzed. His fingers are impotent, still, devoid of possibility. The loss of his hand feels like a death, a loss of true love, a divorce—his divorce.

He knows his left arm will go next.

Three years ago, Karina removed their framed wedding picture from the living room wall and hung a mirror there instead. But she still hasn’t moved on. Karina is paralyzed by excuses and fear, stuck in an unfulfilling life as a piano teacher, afraid to pursue the path she abandoned as a young woman, blaming Richard and their failed marriage for all of it.

When Richard becomes increasingly paralyzed and is no longer able to live on his own, Karina becomes his reluctant caretaker. As Richard’s muscles, voice, and breath fade, both he and Karina try to reconcile their past before it’s too late.

Poignant and powerful, Every Note Played is a masterful exploration of redemption and what it means to find peace inside of forgiveness.

Oh my goodness this book certainly hits you right in the feels!

This is all about the story of Richard and Karina, they were married for a while, but it all kind of went pear-shaped and they split a few years ago, they have a daughter between them, Grace, who is currently at University, and doesn’t really have much to do with her father.

Richard is a pianist, a really famous concert pianist, he has played all over the world, and has many fans and admirers, Richard loves this, he loves that fact that people love him, he is quite an arrogant man.

Karina is also a pianist, she prefers Jazz, she gave up her dream as a performer to support Richard in his dream.
The thing is, Richard took advantage of this, while he was away playing with the orchestra, Karina was looking after their new baby, Richard however was looking after his own needs with other women!

Karina couldn’t take it anymore, and rightly left him!

Richard is unfortunately diagnosed with ALS, he tries his best to cope with it on his own for a while, but after a strange twist of fate and a wrong number dialled, Karina ends up being his carer.

This book pulls no punches in relation to this awful disease, it starts from the twitching in the muscles, and takes us through every terrible thing that can happen after diagnosis, like the wheelchair, or the fact that your body locks itself, or that you can’t swallow, or that you have the option of recording your own voice and “banking” it, because after a while you won’t be able to talk / eat / chew anymore.

A big shout out also has to go for the guys who help care for people diagnosed with ALS, they are angels in a time of hell for the person with this awful disease, their time and patience with these people is remarkable.

You may know a little about ALS, like seeing Stephen Hawkins, or you took part in the ice Bucket challenge to raise money for it.

You may have first hand experience of this silent killer, I luckily for one have not, but i sure do send my hugs & prayers to anyone that has.

Not everyone is like Stephen Hawkins, in fact ALS will probably kill within 3 years, it is a devastating disease, and i hope one day that we find a cure, because currently there is NOTHING!

I didn’t realise that Lisa Genova was a neuroscientist, but after reading Still Alice & this book, it kind of makes sense, she knows exactly what she is talking about, and pulls no punches and rightly makes no apologies for it.

It broke my heart, but i am am so glad i read it

Prepare yourself for this one, it’s a tough read.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ Bro Code Stars

Well this little audio book was a delight to listen to!

Barrett Wilson and Ava have known each other for years, the reason for this is because he is best friends with her brother Nick, this is becoming a bit of a problem because Barrett has a crush on Ava.

When he goes to stay with Nick for a few days over the holidays, Barrett didn’t think for a minute that Ava would be there, however when he gets there who should open the door?

Barrett knows that he shouldn’t even entertain the idea of having a relationship of any kind with his best friends little sister, nope, he must follow the Bro Code and leave well alone……..accept it doesn’t quite work out that way, an unbeknown to him, Ava has also had a childhood crush on Barrett for years.

🎧🎧 The audio book was different for me, and i have come to realise that i’m not a great fan of Duet narration, which is what this was done in.

The difference is:

DUEL narration 1 person reads a POV or chapter, and reads both parts, male and female.

DUET narration is the male narrating his parts, and the female narrating hers, regardless of chapter, it was a little too busy for me.

However it was made up by having the sexy tones of Zachary Webber who could quite frankly read the phone book and make it sound delicious, and lovely narration by Ava Erikson.

Enjoy the ride

Flashback Friday Featuring – The Troop by Nick Cutter #FlashbackFriday #BookReview #Disturbed

The Troop

The Troop by Nick Cutter

⭐⭐⭐⭐ If Stephen King said so stars!

Once a year, scoutmaster Tim Riggs leads a troop of boys into the Canadian wilderness for a three-day camping trip—a tradition as comforting and reliable as a good ghost story and a roaring bonfire. But when an unexpected intruder—shockingly thin, disturbingly pale, and voraciously hungry—stumbles upon their campsite, Tim and the boys are exposed to something far more frightening than any tale of terror. The human carrier of a bio-engineered nightmare. An inexplicable horror that spreads faster than fear. A harrowing struggle for survival that will pit the troop against the elements, the infected…and one another.

What can I say about this book??

I love horror books, I was a mahoosive Stephen King fan when I was younger, and literally hoovered up anything he wrote, also James Herbert and Dean Koontz, so I have read my fair share of yeuch throughout the years. ……..oh but this book!!!

Stephen King reviewed this on GR and said that it scared the shit out of him, that means you have to read it right??

I can safely say that this is the only book that has EVER made me gag!

I was listening to it on audio and I had to take my earphones out as I thought I was going to hurl lol.

On an island just off of Canada a scout troop go to spend a weekend there, as they do every year, with no technology or phones allowed, they go to have a great time.

Apart from this time, this time a man shows up out of nowhere, he is desperately hungry, and I mean HUNGRY, to the point that he starts eating the chair!!

Scout Master Tim helps him inside the cabin they stay in as he knows a bit of first aid and he can clearly see that the man is ill, but he doesn’t know how ill ……..until he sees something moving in the man’s stomach!

A stomach churning – 4☆ read

Read with caution,

Doing a test-drive of her new book idea sounds like a much better option.

Miles…..sigh Miles……😍 Book boyfriend alert!!

Miles has a little bit of baggage from a failed relationship and isn’t looking for anything serious.

Kate has recently split from her Douchecanoe of an ex who is currently still residing at the house in the basement refusing to leave, hence the writers block and the bad Joojoo.

After some hilarious near misses at the Tire Depot ( The pizza delivery had me howling with laughter) Miles and “Mercedes” start a friends with benefits relationship, all for book research obviously!

The witty one-liners and even the secondary characters in this book were just perfect, I loved every second of listening to this book, thank you Amy 😘

🎧🎧 Narration what can I say about the narration?

Well let’s just say it was hot, I mean steaming hot!!

You have the gorgeous honey-like tones of Teddy Hamilton (who can come and whisper in my ear ANY day of the week!) mixed with the sexy gorgeous voice of Erin Mallon, what’s not to love?

If I’ve said it once I will say it again….

Save a credit, buy a credit, hell even *steal a credit for this one you won’t regret it!!

*Don’t steal a credit, that would make you a dick 😂
