They Don’t Know by Patricia Dixon @pbadixon @Bombshellbooks #BookReview

TGIF book friends!

The last day of August! Time to start the countdown to Christmas! Kidding! Today I am excited to share with you my review for this wonderful book! Many thanks to Sarah for my invitation and to Patricia Dixon for her lovely words💜

they don't know

Daisy meets Adam on their first day at Manchester University and they immediately become firm friends, inseparable and happy in each other’s company. But when tongues begin to wag and their relationship is questioned, for the first time in his life Adam shares his secret with Daisy. Daisy promises to stand by him and keep his secret.

When their Grandmother dies, Adam’s older brother, Ryan, returns from abroad and Daisy quickly falls for him.

After a troubled upbringing at the hands of a drunken mother and jailbird father, Adam and Ryan only have each other. In adulthood their bond holds firm, glued together by Daisy with whom they are now both in love.

Adam struggles with his secret and the fear of ever losing Daisy to another man. Is he besotted and quietly controlling and soon the past starts to influence his choices.

Ryan is motivated, selfish and sees everything in black and white, living in a military world that shields him from the demons of his past, bringing order to his life.

And in the middle is Daisy who loves both of them and makes a promise to each. One she sets free, the other she vows to protect and never abandon.

But when tragedy strikes can Daisy ever find happiness?

They Don’t Know is a beautiful novel about the promises we make and the different kinds of love.

My Thoughts

A beautiful and captivating story that will touch on every single one of your emotions…. once again I had to bust out the Kleenex, another book that made me cry with both happiness and heartbreak… with characters that were so well developed that I was convinced I would know them if I saw them walking down the street… and might I add if I did see them walking down the street I’d invite them to have dinner and drinks with me, I’d love to spend an evening with these three….

Daisy and Adam meet one another there first day of University… A beautiful sweet and lifelong friendship begins… The bond between these two was so strong, I was confused just like some others as to why they weren’t more than friends… but Adam has a secret, and it is not what you think…. Adams older brother Ryan also enters the picture making this twosome a threesome…. there is a love triangle, there is miscommunication, and there is heart break…. so… will these three ever be completely honest with one another? Will they lay all their secrets on the table? Will anyone get a happily ever after? Well you will need to read this book to find that out!

Strongly recommend if you enjoy a love story with wonderful characters and all the feels💕

Patricia+DixonAuthor Bio:

Patricia Dixon was born in Manchester where she still lives with her husband. They have two grown up children and one grandson, plus the company of a lazy bulldog.

Ignoring her high school reports and possibly sound advice from teachers, Patricia shunned the world of academia and instead, stubbornly pursued a career in fashion. Once the sparkle of London life wore off she returned north and embarked on a new adventure, that of motherhood.

Now, almost thirty years later she has acquiesced to the wise words of her elders and turned her hand to writing. Patricia has written five novels set in the Loire and then, in complete contrast, a much darker story of psychological suspense.

She is currently writing her next book, a murderous tale set in the sixties and if she’s not at her desk Patricia loves to read historical fiction or attempts recipes that look great on television but not necessarily her plate. And when the penny jar is full she cashes in her coins and heads to France, the lure of red wine and escapism equalled only by the pursuance of her dream job, writing for a living.

4.5 intense Stars🌟 Tear Me Apart by J.T. Ellison @thrillerchick @HarlequinBooks #BookReview

Happy Thursday Book lovers!

Thrilled to be sharing with you today my review for this thrilling and chilling book!⛷

Tear Me Apart by J.T. Ellison

My Thoughts

4.5 Intensely Engrossing Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟💫 This book was no bunny slope, it was a black diamond run all the way! This was a book that left you exhilarated and a little cold… filled with twists and turns with many bumps along the way…. there were many high flying moments as well as some close crashes…. so strap on those skis fasten those goggles, and get ready for an intense ride down the slope with this book….

Mindy Wright is a skiing prodigy on the brink of Olympic glory until…. a major crash, a broken leg,and an unforeseen diagnosis, changes everything…. while in the hospital with her broken leg Mindy is diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia… in need of a bone marrow transplant both her parents are tested, and when not only are they not a match they are not genetically related to Mindy…. Mindy’s perfect run at Life is now a perfect nightmare, and it isn’t only her bone that is shattered…. how is this possible? Was Mindy switched at birth? Or is the answer more dark and complicated than that? How many secrets run through this family and what have they done to protect them?

Oh what a tangled web we weave…. and the untangling of this web was quite the thrilling ride…. I was probably suspicious of every single character in this book at one time or another with the exception of Mindy…. told from the perspective of multiple characters… you really saw this scenario unfold from every angle…. I thought this was such an impactful way to tell the story it kept me completely engrossed until I reach the finish line…. secrets leading to lies, lies leading to secrets, nobody ever knowing who to believe…. and in the middle of this crazy storm a girl who is fighting for her life!

An engrossing book that will keep you turning those pages well after the ski lift closes…. with a ending that was both haunting and perfect….

Absolutely recommend to fans of thrillers with complicated characters and a compelling plot…. this was definitely a gold medal read!🥇

*** many thanks to Harlequin-Mira for my copy of this brilliant book ***

The Other Sister by Sarah Zettel @sarah_zettel #BookReview #PubDay

Happy Tuesday bookworms!

Delighted to share with you today my review for this dark domestic thriller with a bit of a fairytale vibe.🍎

The Other Sister by Sarah Zettel

My Thoughts

4 Slow Burming Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Once upon a time… in a house made of roses… there lived a good sister named Marie, and a bad sister named Geraldine….

This was a dark, eerie, domestic thriller, with a fairytale vibe… not only was Geraldine’s PhD in the study of folklore and fairytales, but we also got little snippets and analysis of different fairytales throughout the book… I thought this was a very appropriate addition to the story, because there were so many similarities to fairytales…. and I’m not talking about Disney fairytales, but the true dark Grimm fairytales…. The story was dark… there was a definite battle between good and evil… the sisters had lost their mother and had a very ogre like father… their Aunt looked like a witch… not to mention they lived in a house called the rose house….

The story is told from the sister’s alternating points of view… from the beginning we are led to believe that Marie is the good sister and Geraldine is the bad… but as in all good stories things aren’t always as they seem…. The characters in this book were very well-developed, however they were not tremendously likable or relatable… this made it difficult for me to connect with the characters therefore I never completely engrossed myself in the story…. I felt like an onlooker rather than a participant…

The story unravels its self slowly…. and as the layers were peeled away more and more secrets were revealed and more and more lies were told… and just like the characters in the book I had no idea who to trust or who to believe… The ending to this book was satisfying, but not shocking….

Recommend if you enjoy a dark domestic thriller where the characters don’t necessarily live happily ever after…

*** many thanks to Grand Central for my copy of this book ***

About the Book

Two sisters. One murder plan.

Geraldine Monroe is the bad sister. Reckless and troubled, she ran away shortly after the mysterious death of their mother twenty years ago.

Marie, on the other hand, has always been the good sister. She is the obedient daughter and a loving mother to her son.

Now Geraldine has come home, for good it seems, and no one–not the aunts or uncles or cousins–really knows why. The most suspicious of all is Martin Monroe, the father who rules the extended family and their small town with a poisonous combination of money and coldheartedness. But even he doesn’t realize what the truth is: that the sisters have become allies in a plot to kill him.

Bound by blood and a need to right the past, Geraldine and Marie set their plan in motion. When old secrets and new fears clash, everyone is pushed to the breaking point . . . and the sisters will learn that they can’t trust anyone, not even each other.

Over My Shoulder by Patricia Dixon @pbadixon @Bloodhoundbook #BookReview

Happy Sunday book lovers!

Thrilled to be on the blog tour and share with you my review for this extremely compelling book! Many thanks to Sarah for my invitation and to Patricia Dixon for her dark story.🖤

overmyshoulder

Girl meets boy. They fall in love. Sounds simple? It isn’t.

When Freya falls for the manipulative Kane, her life changes beyond her wildest imagination. When the luxurious life she craves gradually becomes intolerable she realises escape is out of reach. Her life has changed and so has she.

She knows that when she least expects it, he will return and make good his promise to exact revenge and ensure she pays the price he fell he is owed.

Can Freya ever be free?

Whoever knew love could be so dangerous.

Following Freya from her carefree twenties up to the present day, Over My Shoulder is an intricate tale of blinkered love and obsession.

My Thoughts

This was a well done, compelling, and dark story… this is not a love story this is a survival story…. last couple weeks I have read three books that all dealt with domestic abuse and one way or another…. three very smart strong women getting involved with the wrong man… what I appreciated about all three of these books was the fact that they emphasize the fact that it could happen to anybody and it wasn’t as easy as just “leaving“…. as I mentioned in a previous review I was in an emotionally abusive relationship for many years and so all three of these books spoke to me on a very personal level… I appreciate that this topic has had more light shed on it recently. it will start dialogue, and it will make people realize that they should not blame the victim…. it is my hope that somebody in this situation reads one of these books and realizes that they are not alone and that there is light at the end of the tunnel….

Freya meats Cane and he seems like the perfect guy, but things aren’t always as they seem…. as in most situations like this the abuse and control slowly escalated until Freya found herself trapped in a very abusive relationship…. this book was tough to read and made me feel very uncomfortable at times… Freya was such a fighter so I was determined to fight my way through these pages…. I think the fact that the author made me feel everything right along with Freya definitely says something about her writing….

It’s hard to say that I enjoyed this book, but I am extremely glad I read it…. The characters were extremely well developed, some of them I liked, a lot of them I hated…. The pace of this book was perfect and the last three or four chapters were extremely intense…. I felt as though I was holding my breath….

Recommend when you are in the mood for a darker compelling story that touches on some very important issues….

Not Her Daughter by Rea Frey

My Thoughts

4.5 Compellingly Complicated Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟💫

WOW! You’ve got to love a book that makes you question everything! A book that blurs the line between right and wrong… good and bad… lies and truth… what makes a “good“ mother? Blood? Love? It is the hardest job you’ll ever do and yet no one teaches you how to be a mother… there is no class, no certification, unless you consider those eggs you had to carry around in high school and pretend were a baby… anybody else do this? Being a mother is the most important job you’ll ever do and yet it is all trial and error… and just because you are a woman doesn’t mean you are cut out for motherhood and there really should be no shame in that…. not everybody is cut out to be a dentist either and no one ever seems to shame you about that… but I digress….

This is not your ordinary kidnapping story…Sarah is a strong single business woman who recently had her heartbroken… Amy is an overwhelms unhappy mother of two…. after two chance encounters with Amy and her beautiful five-year-old daughter Emma, Sarah is determined to “save“ Emma from her abusive situation… Sarah herself had a difficult childhood, a neglectful mother who eventually left her, and a father who never got over the mother who left…. so in “saving“ Emma, Sarah was really also saving herself…. but is doing something wrong ever right?

This book was a crazy ride that had me questioning my ethics at every turn…. it made me keep asking myself, “what would I do in this situation?“ told from both Sarah and Amy‘s point of view… you really got a glimpse into both of these women’s lives…. I found this tremendously impactful, not everything about Amy was bad and not everything about Sarah was good…. so who would be the better mother to Emma? And is the better choice the right choice? So many important questions and no easy answers…

This is Rea Frey’s fictional debut, and what a Way too make a splash into the book world! This is the kind of book that sucks you in from the very beginning and won’t let you go even after it is done, I am seriously still contemplating this book and it has been a few days… perfectly paste with extremely well drawn characters, I seriously think I would recognize Sarah and Amy if I saw them walking down the street… Color me impressed! And I cannot wait to see what we have coming next from this extremely talented author!

Absolutely recommend whether you are a thriller lover or not, this was one of the most thought-provoking books I’ve read all year!

*** many thanks to St. Martin’s Press for my copy of this book ***

Amy Townsend. Unhappy wife. Unfit mother. Unsure whether she wants her daughter back.

The Good Sister - With Cover

HE WASN’T HERS TO LOVE … BUT HER HEART DOESN’T CARE…

When Isla Evans agrees to switch lives with her rising star of a twin for three weeks, she has no idea the move will thrust her into the same bed as her teenage celebrity heartthrob, Bradley King. Trapped there at her sister’s request, she gives her desire free reign and finds herself falling hard and fast.

And she’s not alone.

Bradley wants a wife to tick all the boxes, save for one: love. It’s not part of the deal, never was, never will be. But when he returns home early to find his hopeful-fiancée behaving all sorts of different, he likes it. A lot. Suddenly, he wants a real marriage, with all the trimmings, and he will stop at nothing until he gets it.

But this Hollywood HEA faces one big hurdle—she’s not who he thinks she is…

My Thoughts

4 Steamy Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

This was a sweet steamy story that I devoured in an afternoon… this is a book about the ultimate sister swap…. would you know if your significant other switched places with their sibling? What if they looked exactly alike? The premise of the story was slightly implausible, but it sure was a lot of fun!

Isla switches places with her superstar sister for three weeks…. just to find out she will be living with her teenage crush… Bradley comes home to find that his fiancée has changed… and for the better she is a girl he could possibly fall for…. The problem? This was not part of the deal…. he was not supposed to fall in love!

This story was so entertaining to read… both Isla and Bradley were likable characters and you really wanted that happily ever after for them! The chemistry between them was instantaneous, especially given the circumstances… they absolutely sizzled together…. but throughout I was just waiting for that other shoe to drop… what happens when the person you love is not who they say they are? How will Bradley react to this betrayal? Will this couple get their HEA? And what about sister??? Well you will need to read this to find out!

Recommend for those of you that enjoy a fun steamy love story…

Never Say Goodbye by Richard Parker @Bookwalter @bookouture #BookReview

Happy Monday bibliophiles!

Excited to be part of the blog tour and share my review today for this wonderful first in a series! Many thanks to Noelle for my invitation and Richard Parker for this intriguing book!🔍

Never-Say-Goodbye-Kindle
Somewhere in this city… she’s waiting to be found. When the body of an innocent woman is found stabbed in her otherwise pristine bedroom, Detective Tom Fabian is called in to lead the investigation. It’s the latest in a series of seemingly random murders all over London, which Tom suspects might be linked… but how?

Just when Tom feels all his leads have run dry, he discovers a startling connection between the victims. The killer is tracing a sinister web of murder through the capital – but where does it lead, and who is next?

But then another victim is found, just as Tom’s wife and teenage daughter find themselves in grave danger. Is it a coincidence, or has his job put his family at risk? Has Tom unknowingly sacrificed those he loves most to the darkest case of his career… and can he catch the killer before he strikes again?

A completely gripping, pulse-racing crime thriller that will keep you guessing until the last page. Perfect for fans of Melinda Leigh, Mark Edwards and Robert Dugoni.

My Thoughts

4 Speedy Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

This was a fast-paced action-packed police procedural… this is the first book in the Tom Fabian series and what a start! We were shot out of those gates, real quick!

Four victims brutally stabbed, and Tom believes they are connected…. but how? And why? The connection between these victims was interesting and unique… this book was originally titled “The Murder Map“ and it fit this connection so well… not sure why they change the title? But once again nobody consulted me!

Tom was a pretty stereotypical detective, but by the end of this book he felt like an old friend… his character was extremely well developed… so my old friend Tom and I were solving this crime and thank goodness he was there, because I was clueless again! The story was riddled with falls clues and misdirection… I would have seriously arrested the wrong person, I was just SO convinced! So it is a good thing that Tom’s detecting skills are slightly better than mine, and he was able to solve these murders… and just in time, because the murderer seem to be getting more desperate, more frantic, and more careless as time went on…. and truth be told the bad guy shocked me, did not see that coming! Alas foiled again!

Really though the most shocking part of this book was the apologue… what a tease… it left me speechless and needing the next book immediately!

Absolutely recommend to fans of police procedurals and bonus this is the first book in the series, so you get to start at the beginning!

4.5 Marvelous Stars🌟 The Other Woman by Sandie Jones @realsandiejones #BookReview

Happy Sunday bibliophiles!

Thrilled to share with you my review for this fabulous book that left me speechless!

The Other Woman by Sandie Jones

My Thoughts

4.5 Marvelously Manipulative Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟.5

WOW! HOT damn! Another Flippin fantastic read! With an ending that left me speechless… and anyone that knows me knows how difficult that is! This is a book best gone into blind… I’d recommend reading very few reviews, but read mind of course!😉

What do you do when the “other woman“ is your significant other’s mother? And to clarify what I mean by this is your S/O is overly emotionally tied to his mother…. I mean like he drop everything to go buy her some Tylenol, if she felt a headache coming on, and he deliver it to her even though she lives an hour away and it’s two in the morning…. And even worse what if she is a controlling, manipulative, and condescending mother? Ugh just the thought of it makes me quiver, can’t even imagine! But boy oh boy did it make for a good book… I was completely invested in the story from first page to last….

Emily thinks she has met the man of her dreams… the one… her forever… and everything is going perfectly until…. she meets… Pammie *insert scary music* Pammie was a fabulous character that you loved loved loved to hate… Emily was a really relatable and likable character, all she wanted to do was find love… and then her life got turned on its head, by this crazy lady… not sure if her boyfriend Adam was worth all this angst… but sometimes we can get fixated and not see the forest for the trees…

For me this was just an entertaining compelling character study with just the perfect dose of crazy… with a stand out villain and a bit of a helpless heroine, Who eventually finds her strength! I loved every single interaction between these ladies, I was riveted! And I loved hating Pammie right along with Emily! I seriously was talking to the book throughout, I might’ve said a few choice words🤬

What a wonderful debut! Major props to Sandie Jones and I cannot wait to see what you have in store for me next! Absolutely recommend if you enjoy a good character driven thriller with a heck of an ending!

*** many thanks to St. Martin’s Press for my copy of this fab book ***

About the Book

A deliciously disturbing, compulsively readable debut domestic suspense–prepare to meet The Other Woman: there’s nothing she won’t do to keep you away from her son …

Emily thinks Adam’s perfect; the man she thought she’d never meet. But lurking in the shadows is a rival; a woman who shares a deep bond with the man she loves.

Emily chose Adam, but she didn’t choose his mother Pammie. There’s nothing a mother wouldn’t do for her son, and now Emily is about to find out just how far Pammie will go to get what she wants: Emily gone forever.

Sister of Mine by Laurie Petrou @lauriepetrou @crookedlanebks #BookReview

Happy Saturday bookworms!

Super excited to share with you today my review for this unique and compelling book!

Sister of Mine by Laurie Petrou

My Thoughts

4 Sister Sister Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

“A sister is both your mirror —and your opposite.”

I’ve read quite a few books lately with complicated sister relationships… I unfortunately or fortunately, depending upon how you look at it do not have a sister… I have brothers, my daughter has brothers, I haven’t had to navigate the sister relationship as a sister or as a mother of sisters…. so the sister relationship is a bit of an enigma to me… just asked my daughter if she wished she had a sister… and her answer was an emphatic “NO,” our house only has room for one princess!

This was a compelling domestic thriller that really focus on the complex relationship between sisters Penny and Hattie… its about that fine line between love and hate…. and how your best friend can also be your worst enemy…. The relationship between these two sisters was so dynamic, it change from minute to minute… I didn’t always know who the good sister or bad sister was… I found One sister more empathetic than the other, but my opinions did change throughout the book….

The story is narrated by Penny… I found her narrative to be very compelling, emotional, and uncomfortable…. as the older sister she felt responsible for her little sister… and at the core of everything lies a secret… A secret that binds the sisters together and also tears them apart…

This was a unique dark thriller… The story was really more about these characters, rather than a shocking twist… there was a surprising ending… however that was simply the icing on this thrilling cake….

Absolutely recommend this book to people who enjoy domestic thrillers with complex characters and relationships…

*** many thanks to Crooked Lane for my copy of this book ***

About the Book

When is a debt ever fully paid?

Penny and Hattie are sisters in a small town, bound tight to the point of knots. They share a secret they cannot escape, even while it pulls them apart. One night, a match is lit, and Penny’s terrible husband is killed – a marriage going up in flames, and offering the potential of a new life. The sisters retreat into their family home – a house of secrets and memories – and try to live in the shadow of what they put in motion. But Penny’s husband is not the only thing they are hiding, from the outside world and from each other. Under a cloud of long-held resentments, sibling rivalry, and debts unpaid, the bonds of sisterhood begin to crack. How long will Penny and Hattie demand the unthinkable of each other? How often will they say, “You owe me,” and when will it ever be enough?

A Holiday to Remember by Susanne O’Leary @susl @bookouture #BookReview #PubDay

Happy Publication Day to this delightful book!
Many thanks to Kim for my invitation and to Susanne O’Leary for this wonderful vacation in a book!🏝
A-Holiday-to-Remember-Kindle

A side-splittingly funny summer read about two best friends who decide to take a chance and travel the world, finding themselves – and finding love – along the way!

Until a few weeks ago, Leanne was a thirty-something who lived with her mother. And yes, she still slept under her Barbie bedspread.

Until recently, Maddy was married to a man whose golf club got more action than she did.

But not anymore.

Leanne and Maddy (and their miniature poodle Bridget) have packed their suitcases and bid goodbye to their dreary lives for the summer. After winding along Italy’s sun-dappled Adriatic Coast in a shiny red convertible, sailing around Croatia’s gorgeous Dalmatian Islands awaits them.

Days splashing around in sparkling turquoise waters and wine-fuelled nights under the stars are every girl’s dream. But with a devilishly handsome Italian on board, old flames to get over and holiday flings to contend with, there’s plenty of drama ahoy. One thing’s for certain, Leanne and Maddy’s trip promises to be a holiday to remember…

A joyful, laugh-out-loud and feel-good story that will make you want to pack your bags, set off on an adventure and live life to the max. Fans of Fiona Gibson, Lucy Diamond and Carole Matthews will love this hilarious and heartwarming read.

My Thoughts

4 Sailing Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Another wonderful vacation in a book… this is the continuation of Maddy and Leanne’s travels in “The Road Trip“… after the best friends win the lottery they take the road trip of a lifetime across Europe… this book finds them in Italy and Croatia… I had no idea Croatia was so beautiful, the dalmatian islands sound absolutely stunning… this book really brought the beauty of this part of the world to life I could see, feel, smell, and taste the beautiful turquoise waters! This really is the second half of Maddy and Leanne’s story so I would strongly advise you read the first book 1st…

Maddy really kind of annoyed me in the first book so I was really delighted that this book really focused on Leanne… Leeanne really needed this trip, she really needed to get away from her overbearing mother… I really loved all the secondary characters in this book they were all such eclectic, delightful, and quirky characters… seriously if I ever make it to Europe I am going to have the expectation of meeting all kinds of interesting people on my travels!

A fun book full of friendship, love, intrigue, and a dash of romance… I wouldn’t say this book was laugh out loud funny but it sure did put a big smile on my face… and I absolutely love the message of the book… to live each and every day to its absolute fullest never to settle for second-best….

This book is the perfect summer getaway, allowing you to vacation from the comfort of your couch or the convenience of your lounger…. absolutely recommend if you love books with beautiful settings, strong friendships, and quirky characters….
