Riding Shotgun and Other American Cruelties by Andy Rausch @writerrausch1 @rararesources #BookSpotlight

Riding Shotgun: And Other American Cruelties

RIDING SHOTGUN AND OTHER AMERICAN CRUELTIES is a unique collection of quirky, Tarantinoesque crime novellas, representing three very different sub-genres. In the first story, “Easy-Peezy,” a band of elderly Old West bank robbers return to their wicked ways robbing banks in the 1930s John Dillinger era. The second story, “Riding Shotgun,” is a bitter tale about a man pushed to the limits of human endurance and forced to take up arms to protect those he loves. The third tale, “$crilla,” is an urban crime fantasy in which a fledgling hip-hop group kidnaps a record mogul in the hopes of finally making the kind of loot they’ve always dreamed of.

The Flowerpot Witch by Wendy Steele @WendyWooauthor @rararesources #BookReview #BlogTour

Thrilled to be part of the blog tour for this paranormal book with a twist… many thanks to Rachel for the invitation and to Wendy Steele for this most magical book!✨✨

The Flowerpot Witch

The Flowerpot Witch (A Wendy Woo Witch Lit Novel Book 3)

Lizzie Martin has chosen pottery to be her new career…

But the teacher from hell threatens to thwart her ambitions before she starts.

She has support from her best friend Louise and Evan, another pottery tutor, but Rowan, her fifteen year old daughter is restless, Josh, her ex-husband is colluding with her aunt and though her mother is alive, access to her is forbidden. When The Morrigan appears in her sacred circle, Lizzie knows she has a battle on her hands.

There is hope though.

Stardust the chicken brings a new creature into Lizzie’s life and a long awaited meeting with her Aunt Matilda brings Lizzie’s past into perspective.

Lizzie’s magic ventures beyond The Sanctuary, into the Welsh landscape and the realms of the fae.

My Thoughts

This was a compelling read full of magic and heart… I must admit I was expecting something much more lighthearted based on the cover, but after I got over that I found this book quite intriguing… this book is also the third in this Witchlit series… I did not read the first two books in the series and I do feel as though I missed out on a little bit, and I spent quite a bit of the first part of this book trying to figure out exactly who was who and what was going on…. so my recommendation is to start at book one…

Lizzie was an outstanding character, I really loved her… she was such a generous giving person with a heart of gold… she would do anything to help out those she loved and even those she didn’t love all that much as well…. I also was delighted that she had such an amazing and supportive BFF in Louise, always love those strong female relationships in Books! Also liked the relationship between Lizzie and her daughter, it was so real and relatable, especially if you have ever had a teenage daughter… also completely related to Lizzy’s relationship with her ex, LOL!

There are all kinds of complicated issues going on between Lizzie and her family and the family dynamics… sometimes I had more questions than answers, but I think in the end I had everything figured out, and it left me wanting more! If I have time I’d love to go back and read the first two books in this series, just so I get a better handle on what exactly is going on… I truly found this book most interesting and magical!

Recommend for fans of the paranormal with a bit of a twist, this is unlike any book you have read before, guaranteed!

Born to surrogate mothers and reared in the Nursery, Australia, these two meet as adults. Each has inherited talents, the result of being genetically altered by the Defense Department.

William and Belinda must learn to trust one another enough to let love blossom. For William this is easy but Belinda is not a willing party to this romance.  Read how they overcome this obstacle –and will the Defense Department notice their liaison?

Tattered by Devney Perry @devneyperry @InkSlingerPR #BookReview

Delighted to be part of the blog tour for this wonderful second chance romance💕

Thea Landry has always known her place in modern-day society. It’s somewhere just above the trash can her mother dumped her in as a newborn but below the class where much comes easy. With her tattered shoes and bargain-bin clothes, her life has never been full of glamour.

So when a rich and charismatic man takes interest, she doesn’t fool herself into thinking their encounter is anything more than a one-night stand. Months later, she’s kicking herself for not getting his phone number. Or his last name. She’s given up hope of seeing him ever again.

Until one day, years later, Logan Kendrick waltzes into her life once more and turns everything she’s built upside down. This time around, she won’t make the same mistake. She’s going to fight to keep him in her life—not for herself.

But for their daughter.

My Thoughts

4 Second Chance Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

This is my second book from Davney Perry and she is definitely being added to my favorite romance writer list! The most important thing for me in a Romance is compelling and well develop characters, and without a doubt the characters in this book are compelling and well developed! Also like a plausible plot with a touch of angst, This book had a wonderful plot and not very much angst, but just enough for me! It is also a bonus when the book has a beautiful setting, and I really think Montana fits the bill, a beautiful state!

Thea was such a strong sassy character, I really adored her…. Thea never had all that much as far as material goods….. so after a one night stand with the wealthy Logan she really thought they’d never see each other again… A few weeks after their fling she regretted the fact she did not have his phone number, because she found herself pregnant…. now fast forward several years and Thea and Logan run into each other again this time in Montana… Logan is a strong charismatic man with a bit of an awkward side, he was quite shocked to find out he had a daughter….

The real beauty of this story is that both Thea and Logan put their daughter Charlie first…. Logan really embraced his role as father and you could tell that regardless if things worked out between Thea and him he was going to be there for the long-haul… loved the development of the relationship between Logan and Thea… loved the character development in Thea throughout the book… and absolutely loved every minute these two spent with their adorable daughter, it was quite touching!

Absolutely recommend to fans of a second chance romance with some pretty spectacular characters💕

He stared at me for a long moment. “You’re sure she’s mine?”

“She’s yours.”

“Then that’s good enough.”

“I—really?” I blinked. He didn’t want to verify paternity? He just . . . trusted me?

He nodded. “Really.”

“I swear, I tried to find you, Logan. On my life, I swear it. But the hotel wouldn’t give me your name no matter how much I begged. And you paid cash for your drinks and never mentioned your last name. I tried, but I just . . . didn’t know where to start.”

“It’s not your fault. I believe you.”

The sincerity in his voice made my throat burn. Goddamn it. I was going to cry.

I’d worked so hard not to cry today. I’d fought to keep my emotions in check and my head from spinning out of control. But this was going to make me break.

I wanted so badly for Logan to believe that I hadn’t kept Charlie from him intentionally. The fact that a man like him would trust someone like me without proof meant more than he’d ever know.

“Thank you,” I choked out past the lump in my throat.

“So, um, is Charlie inside with your husband? Or boyfriend?”

The urge to cry disappeared and I barked out a laugh. “Smooth.”

He chuckled. “It’s been a long day for me. Give me a break, will you? This morning I was in New York, then I came to Montana for a business meeting and discovered a daughter. I’m off my game.”

Gracies-Secret-Kindle

My dearest daughter, I will never forget the day I nearly lost you. The day you learned the secrets that would tear our lives apart…

Time stops for Jen when her beloved daughter, Gracie, is involved in a terrible car crash. Pronounced dead at the scene, it’s a miracle when paramedics manage to then resuscitate the little girl.

The relief Jen feels at Gracie’s recovery is matched only by her fury at the driver of the car – her ex-husband’s new girlfriend Ella. Jen has never trusted Ella, and now her worst fears have been confirmed.

But then Gracie begins to tell strange stories about what she heard in the car that day, and what she saw in those moments near death. It’s clear that there’s something shocking hidden in Ella’s past… but exposing it could tear all their lives apart.

An emotional page-turner that will take your breath away. Perfect for fans of Jodi Picoult, Lisa Wingate and Kerry Fisher.

~My Review~

4.25 Intriguing Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟.25

I really have been so fortunate as of late, I have read so many wonderful books! And this book was absolutely no exception to that… I usually go into books blind, I hardly ever read the blurb… so halfway through this I was 🤔 is this a thriller or am I seeing a twist because I read so many thrillers? I’m sure all of my fellow thriller Readers do the same thing, we are always looking for that crazy twist…. not going to tell you if this book twists or not, but I am going to tell you it was an engaging and unique read….

The book starts out with Jen getting the phone call every parent fears, her young three-year-old daughter Gracie is in the hospital… she gets to the hospital to find out her daughter is in a coma and her ex-husband‘s new girlfriend Ella was driving the car at the time of this accident…. needing to place blame Jen places all the blame on Ella… The mama bear in me completely empathize with Jen… and even though I didn’t necessarily fine Jen all that relatable, I did always have her back… Ella on the other hand just rubbed me the wrong way…. even when I found out there was more to her story, I still could not find much compassion for her… The majority of the story is told from Jen‘s point of view…. although we did get some of Ella’a perspective as well, yet that still did not make her more likable…

Gracie was an adorable three-year-old, however I must admit there are times I wished she was five… We’ll just say she was a very mature three-year-old, or it has been so long since I’ve had a three-year-old I don’t remember… when Gracie recovers from her coma she begins to tell her mom about some unusual things such as a light and angels… I really found this part of the book unique and well done… whether you are a believer or not the idea of an angel is comforting… I do want to emphasize however this is not a religious book, there is just some mentions of what happens when you die…. there also is to be quite honest an Erie element to it all as well…

All in all this was a really wonderful debut novel, that I would absolutely recommend for a little change of pace…

The Cottage on Lily Pond Lane Part 1 New Beginings by Emily Harvale @emilyharvale @rararesources #BookReview #LilyPondLane #BlogTour

Happy Sunday all! Exciting day… my oldest is coming home from University for two weeks before he goes back for summer school! And I am part of the blog Tour for this lovely book💜 many thanks to Rachel for the invitation and to Emily Harvale for her delightful story🐸

Cottage on Lily Pond Lane Blog TourThe Cottage on Lily Pond Lane

New Beginnings

Mia Ward is amazed to be told she has inherited her great-aunt Matilda’s thatched cottage in the tiny seaside village of Little Pondale – especially as Mia didn’t know she had a great-aunt Matilda.

She’s even more astonished to discover she’ll only inherit the place if she actually lives there for one year. Mia’s a city girl at heart, not to mention she’s afraid of water, so the fact the cottage backs on to a sandy beach, is not, in her opinion, a bonus.

But Mia’s struggling to pay her rent since being fired for inappropriate behaviour at the office party, and her boyfriend’s also dumped her. When her best friend, Ella and Ella’s brother, Garrick offer to help her move and settle in, Mia decides to see this as a new beginning.

It may also be the start of an exciting adventure because now Mia wants to know just who, exactly, was great-aunt Matilda. And she’s determined to find out. But it soon becomes clear that someone is trying to make sure Mia doesn’t stay in Little Pondale….

~My Review~

5 Captivating Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I am such a sucker when it comes to a book set in a cottage by the sea in the UK… I mean how lovely would it be to live in a cottage named Sunbeam? A cottage in a village called Lily Pondale that backs up to the beach… A village filled with friendly people, not to mention nothing but gorgeous men… not sure what is stopping me from packing my bags immediately? Oh yes… reality! That is why I read to escape reality and so I Can visit a lovely village such as this…. and this book was every bit as charming as the title/cottage/village implies….

Mia is a little down on her luck, lost her job and her man… but now she has the opportunity to inherit a cottage… Mia is a city girl and not quite sure how she’s going to take to living in the country… but the cottage is free and if she lives there for a year she will inherit it outright…. so along with her BFF Ella and Ella’s twin brother Garrick she heads to Lily Pondale…

So many new discoveries… Learning about her great aunt Matilda that Mia never even knew she had…. A cottage full of hidden nooks and crannies and secrets… and a village filled with gorgeous eligible men, Romance is bound to be in the air soon…. A delightful beginning to this serial filled with new beginnings…

Absolutely recommend as a quick delightful summer read, you could definitely finish this in one afternoon by the pool or on the beach…

Escape to the seaside village of Little Pondale with Part Two of this heart-warming and romantic, four-part serial.

Mia Ward was amazed to inherit her great-aunt Matilda’s thatched cottage in the tiny seaside village of Little Pondale – especially as Mia didn’t know she had a great-aunt Matilda. She was even more astonished to discover she’d only inherit the place if she lives there for a year.

Now Mia and her friends, Ella and Garrick are embracing village life. Garrick’s also embracing someone in The Frog and Lily, so Mia turns her attention to one or two of her sexy, single neighbours. But great-aunt Matilda remains an enigma and Mia’s still determined to discover who she was.

When Mia’s mum, Lori arrives, she’s eager to see what the summer has to offer. There’s the Kite Festival, the Fête, the Frog Hill Run, but what really appeals to Lori, much to Mia’s horror, is the Midsummer Night’s naked bathing in the pond at Frog’s Hollow.

As sweltering days surrender to sultry nights, love is definitely in the air. And when an incident means Mia has to face her greatest fear, help arrives from a surprising source. But one thing is clear… someone is trying to make sure Mia doesn’t stay in Little Pondale…

A Mother’s Goodbye by Kate Hewitt

‘My arms ache with the need to reach and hold my precious child, and then to never let go. But I can’t. I know I can’t.’

Heather is devastated. There’s no way she can keep her baby. She can barely pay the bills as it is. But when she meets Grace, a wealthy, single career woman, who wants a baby more than anything, Heather believes she has found the perfect adoptive mother.

As Grace and Heather’s lives become entwined, they are tested to breaking point, though neither can deny the other’s love for the child. But just when they think they are learning how to live with each other, they receive devastating news that turns their fragile world upside down.

Will either mother know what is the right thing to do for the child they both love?

An absolutely gripping, emotional drama with a tear-jerking twist. If you love Jodi Picoult, Kelly Rimmer or Diane Chamberlain, this will warm your heart, make you cry, and stay with you forever.

~My Review~

4.5 Heartbroken Stars 💔🌟🌟🌟🌟.5

Wow! This book pulled at my heartstrings from first page to last… A touching book about mothers love…. two mothers loving the same child…. One gave birth to him… and the other gives life to him…. both wanting the best for him….

Heather’s husband has lost his job, they have three young kids that they cannot afford to buy new shoes for, when Heather finds herself pregnant with baby number four….Grace has a successful professional life, but feels like something is missing from her personal life…. I am sure you can see where this is going, Heather chooses to have Grace adopt her baby…. as a mother I can only imagine how heartwrenching that would be, but so unselfish of Heather to want nothing but the best for her baby…. The adoption is open and Heather and family see the baby Isaac once a month…. when tragedy strikes it brings these two women together in quite a remarkable way….

Told from the points of view of both Heather and Grace…. I thought this was extremely affective, we really got a glimpse into the thoughts and feelings of both mothers…. I really found both these characters real and relatable, with all the real struggles of a mother…. I loved how their relationship strengthened and grew through tragedy and love… The ending to this was sad, sweet, and satisfying…

Absolutely recommend to those who enjoy a book about tough decisions and mothers love💕

4 What If Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Lizzy is 18 and about to start University when she finds herself pregnant… such a tough life altering situation, that every girl has thought of… her decision will change the rest of her life….

Lizzie was very likable, relatable and real… I was captivated as she took us through the different scenarios, all the what ifs??? Very refreshing look at a tough subject…. would it be easier to make a decision if you knew how things would turn out? This book really made you think and I felt for Lizzie, her boyfriend Mike, and her parents….

While reading this book I was wondering… how in the world is this going to end? And I have to say the ending was perfection! Very well done Lucy V. Hay!

Publication day: June 8th 2018

Description:

A warm welcome and delicious chocolate gateau are always on the menu at the Bakery at Seashell Cove – and this summer, romance is in the air…

Meg Larson thought she had everything she wanted: she works in the local bakery, she’s months away from marrying her high-school sweetheart, and home is beautiful, sunny Seashell Cove, where the sky is blue, the sea is turquoise and the sand is golden.

Except that the bakery is up for sale and her fiancé Sam’s more interested in bikes than their relationship. When Meg receives shocking news about her family, he’s on a cycling tour and ignoring her calls – and posting selfies on Facebook with a female cyclist he looks far too cosy with…

Luckily the bakery’s estate agent, Nathan, is understanding and funny, and as the summer goes on an unexpected friendship blossoms. When the bakery is given a second lease of life under a mysterious new owner, Meg realises a change might be exactly what she needs too.

Will Meg find the happy-ever-after she dreams of in Seashell Cove?

An uplifting, laugh-out-loud rom com that will make you dream of romantic days at the beach. Perfect for fans of Debbie Johnson, Holly Martin and Jenny Oliver.

4.25 Delectable Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟.25

This book left me with a smile on my face and craving cake! 🍰 apparently this is the second book in the series, however I had no idea until I reached the end of the book and saw the blurb for the previous book… so this can absolutely be read as a standalone… although Time permitting I will definitely go back and read Cassie‘s story… how can I resist another book set in the beautiful setting of Seashell Cove?

Meg was such a fun and real character, the kind of girl you want to be friends with… dealing with the fact that her beloved bakery is being sold and her fiancé is obsessed with cycling…. this is the second book I have read recently where the husband is more interested in cycling than the wife/girlfriend/fiancée??? This must be a real problem, stay off the bikes boys!

Meg has an opportunity to be on a television show featuring her and the bakery…. The TV show brought about both hurt feelings and some good news… this was a lighthearted read with a bit of a serious tone… Meg has to deal with a family secret being revealed, her failing relationship, and the obnoxious mother of her fiancé….Thank goodness the handsome Nathan enters the picture… A beautiful friendship is formed, or maybe a bit more? Will Meg find her way to happily ever after?

Such a delightful read filled with both heartbreaking and heartwarming moments… A book filled with fun, food, and friendship…. set in a place we’d all love to visit Seashell Cove!🐚

Absolutely recommend as a perfect summer read on the beach, by the pool, or just sitting on the couch!
