Murder Served Cold by Paula Williams @PaulaWilliams44 @rararesources #bookreview

Happy Thursday bibliophiles!

Excited to share with you today my review for this charming cozy mystery! Huge thanks to Rachel for my invitation to the tour and to Paula Williams for her wonderful words💕

Murder Served Cold

2A quiet English village where nothing ever happens.   Until…..

After her boyfriend runs out on her with the contents of their joint bank account, Kat Latcham has no choice but to return to the tiny Somerset village of Much Winchmoor where she grew up.  A place, she reckons, that is not so much sleepy as comatose and she longs for something to happen to lessen the boredom of living with her parents.

But when she and her childhood friend, Will Manning, discover a body and Will’s father, John, is arrested for the murder, Kat suddenly realises that she should have heeded the saying “Be careful what you wish for”.

Much Winchmoor is a hotbed of gossip and everyone is convinced John Manning is guilty.  Only Kat and Will believe he’s innocent. When there’s a second murder Kat is sure she knows the identity of the murderer – and set out to prove it.  But in doing so she almost becomes the murderer’s third victim.

Readers of Sue Grafton might enjoy the Much Winchmoor series of cosy murder mysteries spiked with humour and sprinkled with romance.

My Thoughts

This was a charming cozy mystery with a speppering of romance… I really love these books about small English villages, and I cannot figure out why everyone wants to leave… perhaps it is the fact that everybody knows everybody, or that everybody knows everybody else’s business? Or maybe it is the fact that people are constantly getting murdered??? This is the first book in what looks like is going to be a fabulous series!

Kat has returned home after a bit of a bump in her love life… not thrilled to be living with her parents again and finding it quite dull, Kat is ready for some excitement! And boy does she find it when her longtime friend Will and she run across a dead body… Will’s dad is the number one suspect, but Kat and Will do not believe that…. so Kat decides to put on her detective Hat and figure out who the real murderer is… but she better be careful because she is making dangerous people angry….

This book truly has everything you want from a cozy mystery; a charming setting and a cast of wonderful characters… The character development in this book was absolutely stellar, I felt as though I would no Kat if she were walking down the street… I also really love the fact that there were so many potential suspects, it really kept me guessing throughout… I also like the potential for romance, can’t wait to see where the next book in the series takes us!

Absolutely recommend to anybody who is a fan of cozy mysteries, this is A good one!

Paula Williams is living her dream.  She has written all her life – her earliest efforts involved blackmailing her unfortunate younger brothers into appearing in her plays and pageants. But it is only in recent years, when she turned her attention to writing short stories and serials for women’s magazines that she discovered, to her surprise, that people with better judgement than her brothers actually liked what she wrote and were prepared to pay her for it.

Now, she writes every day in a lovely, book-lined study in her home in Somerset, where she lives with her husband and a handsome but not always obedient rescue Dalmatian called Duke.  She still writes for magazines but also now writes novels. A member of both the Romantic Novelists’ Association and the Crime Writers’ Association, her novels often feature a murder or two, and are always sprinkled with humour and spiced with a touch of romance.

She also writes a monthly column, Ideas Store, for the writers’ magazine, Writers’ Forum and has a blog at  Her facebook author page is . And she tweets at @paulawilliams44.

Not only that, but when she’s not writing, she’s either tutoring, leading writing workshops or giving talks on writing at writing festivals and conferences and to organised groups.  She’s appeared several times on local radio – in fact, she’ll talk about writing to anyone who’ll stand still long enough to listen.

But, as with the best of dreams, she worries that one day she’s going to wake up and find she still has to bully her brothers into reading ‘the play what she wrote’.

The Best Boomerville Hotel by Caroline James @CarolineJames12 @rararesources @RubyFiction #bookreview #giveaway

Happy Monday bibliophiles!

Thrilled to share with you today my review for this uplifting story about “people of a certain age.”Many thanks to Rachel for my invitation to the blog tour and to Caroline James for her delightful words💕

The Best Boomerville Hotel

TBBH high res coverLet the shenanigans begin at the Best Boomerville Hotel …
Jo Docherty and Hattie Contaldo have a vision – a holiday retreat in the heart of the Lake District exclusively for guests of ‘a certain age’ wishing to stimulate both mind and body with new creative experiences. One hotel refurbishment later and the Best Boomerville Hotel is open for business!

Perhaps not surprisingly Boomerville attracts more than its fair share of eccentric clientele: there’s fun-loving Sir Henry Mulberry and his brother Hugo; Lucinda Brown, an impoverished artist with more ego than talent; Andy Mack, a charming Porsche-driving James Bond lookalike, as well as Kate Simmons, a woman who made her fortune from an internet dating agency but still hasn’t found ‘the One’ herself.

With such an array of colourful individuals there’s bound to be laughs aplenty, but could there be tears and heartbreak too and will the residents get more than they bargained for at Boomerville?

My Thoughts

A heartwarming story filled with laughter and hope…

Good friends Jo and Hattie decided to open up a retreat for “people of a certain age.“ The purpose of the retreat is too offer classes to expand both the mind and the body of the boomers… I thought this was a fun refreshing book focusing on people over 50… a Book all about embracing every day no matter what your age….

This book had a cast of extremely engaging, eccentric and quirky, characters…. Kate a successful Business owner of a online dating service who has never found love herself… Andy a handsome James bond look alike with a hidden agenda… lucinda a washed up artist with a dirty side…. and last but not least eccentric yet lovable brothers Harry and Hugo… each character brought a little something different to the table and added some charm and wit to the story….

It is always nice to read a delightful uplifting story that will make you smile and giggle… a book that reinforces the fact that it is never too late for second chances, new beginnings, and true love….

Absolutely recommend when you are in the mood for a lovely story a bit of a pick me up…

City of Secrets by Victoria Thompson @gaslightvt @BerkleyPub #6bookbestiescityofsecrets #6bookbestiesapproved #bookreview

TGIF book Friends!

Thrilled to share with you today my review for this delightful tale of secrets, betrayals, and lies! Another fun and fabulous read with my BOOK BESTIES💕

City of Secrets by Victoria Thompson

My Thoughts

Secrets and blackmale and lies…oh my!

A compelling and engaging story from first page to last… this was a well-crafted perfectly paced story set in 1920s New York…. This is the second book in the Counterfeit Lady series, I did not read the first and I was not lost at all, can definitely be read as a standalone… although I might go back and read the first to get some of the backstory on these marvelous characters….

The strength of the story I felt was in these captivating, charming, and quirky characters…. Elizabeth and Gideon’s seemingly completely opposite personalities added such a rich layer to the story…. what happens when a con artist and a straight laced lawyer fall in love? Well I’m not sure what will ultimately happened with Elizabeth and Gideon‘s romance, but I can tell you it does make for one compulsive read! Not sure how I would classify this book I wouldn’t necessarily call it a mystery, what it was though was a book that fully immersed me in the lives of these characters…. a story filled with delicious scheming, conniving, and trickery… Loved how Elizabeth and Gideon Sought justice in very different ways…. also loved how the women in this story were the brains of the operation!

Viktoria Thompson definitely has a way with words… The historical aspects of the story were well researched, really made me want to read more books that take place in the 20s…. the writing was stellar, making for an effortless Reid… this is my first book from Miss Thompson, but I can guarantee it will not be my last! It is always a delight to discover a new to you author….

Absolutely recommend to anyone who enjoys a well written historical story with a cozy 20s gangster vibe…

*** A big thanks to Berkley for my copy of this book ***

About the Books

Con artist Elizabeth Miles has determined that Society is the biggest con of all. So far, Elizabeth’s only real social success has been with Priscilla Knight. Priscilla is a dedicated suffragist who was recently widowed for the second time in her young life. Her beloved first husband, DeForrest Jenks, died in a tragic accident and left her with two young daughters and a comfortable fortune. Soon after his death, her pastor convinced her she needed a man to look after her. Before she knew it, he had engineered a whirlwind courtship and hasty marriage to fellow parishioner Endicott Knight. Less than nine months later, Endicott is also dead in a somewhat less tragic and even more suspicious accident.

Priscilla confides to Elizabeth that she had understood Endicott was wealthy in his own right, and she had brought a sizeable fortune to the marriage as well. Now her banker is telling her she has hardly any money left and that her house has been mortgaged. The banker has hinted at a scandal that could damage the family’s reputation and her daughters’ future prospects. Fearing destructive gossip, Priscilla doesn’t know whom to trust.

Elizabeth discovers some unsavory evidence that seems to point to the possibility that Endicott’s death may have been connected to blackmail. To save her new friend’s future, Elizabeth must use her special set of skills to find the truth.

Fishing for Maui by Isa Pearl Ritchie @IsaPearlRitchie @rararesources #bookreview

Happy Wednesday everybody!

Excited to share with you today my review for this beautifully told story about family, food, and culture! A huge thank you to Rachel for my invitation to the tour and two Isa Pearl Ritchie for her lovely words!💛

Fishing for Maui

Fishing for Maui - Front - (RGB)A novel about food, whānau, and mental illness.

Valerie reads George Eliot to get to sleep – just to take her mind off worries over her patients, her children, their father and the next family dinner. Elena is so obsessed with health, traditional food, her pregnancy and her blog she doesn’t notice that her partner, Malcolm the ethicist, is getting himself into a moral dilemma of his own making. Evie wants to save the world one chicken at a time. Meanwhile her boyfriend, Michael is on a quest to reconnect with his Māori heritage and discover his own identity. Rosa is eight years old and lost in her own fantasy world, but she’s the only one who can tell something’s not right. Crisis has the power to bring this family together, but will it be too late?

“An accomplished story of a family in crisis

– Ritchie’s great skill is her ability to conjure the inner lives if her characters. Fishing For Maui is a compassionate meditation on what it means to be well”. – Sarah Jane Barnett

My Thoughts

A beautifully told story about family, food, and culture; set against the beautiful backdrop of New Zealand….

Told from multiple points of view, spanning three generations, this book really gives you a honest glimpse into the lives of this family… The family members all have strong and differing opinions on things such as food, culture, and tradition… everyone’s story was told so exquisitely with such elegance at times I felt as though I was reading poetry…

This book just touched on so many different subjects from food to blogging to surfing to medical practices to mental illness to tradition etc. I found I could relate with almost all of the characters, in one way or another, some more than others…. The book captivated my interest throughout and was extremely thought-provoking…. The setting of New Zealand definitely added something to the story for me I learned about a culture I had no previous knowledge of…

A quiet story that’s true beauty is in its words and its characters, recommended to anyone who is looking for a gentle thought-provoking story….

The Good, The Bad & The Rugby by Mark Farrer @mark_farrer @damppebbles #TheGoodTheBadTheRugby #bookreview #giveaway

Happy Wednesday!

Excited to share with you today my review for this good old-fashioned fun crime thriller that doesn’t take its self too seriously! Thank you so much Emma for the invitation to the tour!😊

GBR-Front-CoverGetting to the truth. By trial… and eror error.

Cullen is on jury duty, and the sleepy Scottish town of Melrose is experiencing a rare crime wave: the famous Rugby Sevens trophy is stolen, a dead body is unearthed, there is a spate of petty arson, and someone drives a van into Gloria’s front room.
Why? And what is her husband doing every night up on Eildon hill?

In this hilarious crime romp, misguided loyalties, thwarted love, and unbelievable gullibility reach crisis point on the one day in the year when the world pays a visit to Melrose.

At the final whistle, Cullen will ensure that justice is done.

Because sometimes twelve good men just isn’t enough.

My Thoughts

This was a fun and humerus crime thriller….

This is one of those books you don’t want to read in public, unless you want to get those funny looks when you’re laughing out loud at apparently nothing… an over-the-top character driven story about some quite interesting characters… i’m not even sure how to review this… it’s like when you tell a joke you heard on a late night television show and it falls flat, Because you cannot deliver it quite the same way?

A cleverly crafted story about rugby, a jury trial, and a lot of crazy antics… i’m currently chuckling to myself just thinking about some of the shenanigans that went on in this book! It really was just plain good old fashion fun! A book that did not take itself too seriously that Will leave you with a smile on your face and tears running down your cheeks from laughing so hard!😂

Recommend when you’re in the mood for a fun book filled with laughter and Fabulous characters!

The Perfect Family by Shalini Boland @ShaliniBoland @bookouture #bookreview #pubday

Happy Tuesday and happy publication day to this fabulous book!

Excited to share with you today my review for this can’t miss psychological thriller! Huge thanks to Kim for my invitation to the tour and to Shalini Boland for her wonderful words!💕

My Thoughts

Wow! Wow! Wow! This was one fabulously twisted psychological thriller!

Shalini Boland Has a way with taking the ordinary and turning it on its head… this was a well-crafted psychological thriller that completely sucked me in from the very first page! A book about the “perfect“ family finding themselves on one crazy twisted ride!

The book starts out with Gemma frantically searching for her youngest daughter Katie… katie is soon found wandering down the street by her grandmother and Gemma’s mother-in-law, Diane…. I don’t know about you but if anyone found my child wandering down the street much less my mother-in-law I would be mortified…. although there was the one time I found my youngest playing in the gutter across the street from our house, but he is my third kid😉

As anyone who has ever lost sight of their child those are some pretty long minutes in your life, and when you find your child you feel relieved, then a little angry, but the nightmare is over! Not in this case though Gemma’s nightmare has just begun… a vandalized car and a key that won’t quite fit are just the beginning… already doubting her capabilities as a mother Gemma is convinced to hire a tutor/nanny to watch the girls and help Ava with her entrance exams… Sadie comes with some strong recommendations, but Gemma is highly suspicious…. The girls seem too absolutely adore Sadie, but strange things start to happen and Gemma becomes more and more suspicious…. i’m sure you think you know where this story is going, And yet you’d be SO wrong! Can’t say much more about the plot, certainly don’t want to ruin it for you… just know that it is full of twists and turns that will definitely keep you furiously turning those pages!

This is a can’t miss psychological thriller buy one of my favorite authors… if you have read anything by Shalini Boland before this might be her best, and if you haven’t what are you waiting for? Perfect place to start!

*** many thanks to Bookouture for my copy of this book ***

Solace Island by Meg Tilly @meggamonstah @BerkleyRomance @BerkleyPub #6bookbestiessolaceisland #bookreview

Happy Monday and Happy Birthday to ME!🎊🎉🥂

Today I am a year older and a year wiser! I am also excited to share with you my review for this intriguing romantic suspense book by actress and author meg Tilly!💛

This was another engaging group read with my fave girls the BOOK BESTIES💕

Solace Island by Meg Tilly

My Thoughts

A sizzling, steamy, suspenseful romance that will make you smile, swoon, and sweat!🔥🔥🔥

Solace:is a feeling of comfort that makes you feel less sad.

Solace Island is the perfect place to find comfort and the stremgth to begin again… The perfect name for the beautiful setting of this book about second chances and new beginnings…. this was a well-done romantic suspense that leans more towards romance than suspense…. I read both genres and thoroughly enjoyed it, but I think it will appeal more to a true romance reader than a suspense/thriller/mystery reader…. there is some definite sizzle in this book!

Maggie’s jerk of an X fiancé dumped her the day before the wedding… Hurt and angry Maggie heads two Solace Island with her sister eve to lick her wounds…. while she is there she meets Luke her handsome island neighbor, who is selling bread at the local Saturday market… and bread has never look so good before! The two of them spark up a romance, but what is Lucques hiding? After somebody tries to hurt Maggie the truth comes out… but who is trying to hurt Maggie? And why? Can Luke stop them? And will this ruin things between the lovebirds? You will need to read this book to find that out!

A quick captivating story that kept me engaged throughout… The setting of the island in the Pacific Northwest was so ideal, it was somewhere I would love to go to lick my own wounds! Loved the bond between the sisters, they were so there for each other it was so refreshing after reading so many sister psychological thrillers lately…. The chemistry between Lucques and Maggie was pretty high-octane, if this book were a movie it would be rated R for sexual content😳 My review would not be complete if I did not mention the bread again and all the yummy goodies, This book definitely made me hungry 😋

Recommend to Fanzz of Romance with a good well done dose of suspense!

*** A huge thank you to Berkley for my copy of this book ***

About the Book

A contemporary novel with a strong suspense element from Oscar-nominated actress Meg Tilly set on a peaceful island village in the Pacific Northwest.

Dumped on the eve of her wedding and looking for a quiet place to lick her emotional wounds, Maggie Harris joins her sister on Solace Island, where she hopes to recover from the stunning betrayal. At first, Maggie resists Eve’s impassioned argument about relocating permanently so the sisters can open their own local bakery. What she definitely doesn’t need on her road to recovery are Eve’s efforts to fix her up with their mysterious and alluring neighbor, Luke Benson–even if he is incredibly handsome and desirable.

Just as Maggie starts to get comfortable in her new surroundings, a car tries to run her down in the middle of the street. If it weren’t for Luke’s extremely quick reflexes, Maggie could have been killed, leading her to wonder just who exactly Luke Benson really is…

Luke thought he’d left the violence of the high risk security world behind. But he can’t stand by while Maggie’s life is threatened. Luke will do anything to keep her safe–even moving Maggie and her sister into his house with its state-of-the-art security features. But with the secrets between them and an unknown threat stalking her heels, Luke will have to think fast to prove to Maggie that she can trust him with her life–and with her heart.

The Stepsister by Jenny O’Brien @ScribblerJB @rararesources #bookreview #giveaway

Happy Sunday!

Excited to share with you today my review for this page turning thriller! A huge thank you to Rachel for the invitation and to Jenny O’Brien for her wonderful story!🖤

The Stepsister

The stepsister coverWhen a stranger leaves step-sisters, Victoria and Ness, a half-share in a house in Holland, they think it must be a mistake.

But there’s no mistake when Ness goes missing.

Desperate for the truth, Victoria heads to Holland to find out what happened to her. Has she, as her texts show, embarked on a whirlwind romance? Has someone abducted her or even worse?

But there’s someone watching, and that person wants her dead.

Can Victoria find out the truth before it’s too late?

My Thoughts

I died yesterday, or so I’ve been told.

With an opening line like that I was quickly captivated by this book… a thriller with a bit of everything including a splash of romance… A twisted family drama with a bit of a somber tone…

Victoria and her stepsister Ness are surprised when they inherit a house from a complete stranger… now has this ever turned out well in a book? Seriously if I Ever inherit anything from a complete stranger I’m turning it down! Well unless it’s cash😉 being the more adventurous of the two Ness heads to Holland, to check out the house… leaving Victoria with her poodle Nigel… can I just say that Nigel was one fantastic dog! Soon after this Victoria receive a message from Ness letting her know that she is getting married and is heading off on a romantic Trip… after some time passes without any contact Victoria become concerned and heads to Holland with, Nigel in toe… then The thrills begin!

This was a dark story with plenty of twists… The kind of story that keeps you up way past your bedtime frantically turning the pages…. there are a few moments of confusion and a bit of impossibility, but it’s all tied up nicely in the end!

Recommend to those of you who enjoy a well written thriller with some family drama and a darker side…

Jack of Hearts (and Other Parts) by L.C. Rosen @LevACRosen #YoungAdult #BookReview #NetGalley #JackOfHeartsAndOtherParts

Happy Saturday all! We are super excited to bring you A double review today! Both Vicci and I read and loved this book, and are thrilled to share our reviews of this fabulous read by L.C. Rosen.

It isn’t going to be for everyone, however, we think it could be a pretty important book.

Meet Jack 😎

The Blurb

My first time getting it in the butt was kind of weird. I think it’s going to be weird for everyone’s first time, though.

Meet Jack Rothman. He’s seventeen and loves partying, makeup and boys – sometimes all at the same time. His sex life makes him the hot topic for the high school gossip machine. But who cares? Like Jack always says, ‘it could be worse’.

He doesn’t actually expect that to come true.

But after Jack starts writing an online sex advice column, the mysterious love letters he’s been getting take a turn for the creepy. Jack’s secret admirer knows everything: where he’s hanging out, who he’s sleeping with, who his mum is dating. They claim they love Jack, but not his unashamedly queer lifestyle. They need him to curb his sexuality, or they’ll force him.

As the pressure mounts, Jack must unmask his stalker before their obsession becomes genuinely dangerous

Vicci’s Thoughts

⭐⭐⭐⭐·5 Out and Proud Stars

I loved this book, what a refreshing change for someone to say “Hey, I like sex, and as long as it is consensual, I’ll have lots of it please!”

And gay sex too, oh the horror of it all!! 😋

Jack is the person in this story shouting this, he is gay, and he is “out” loud, and abso-fu*king-lutely proud!

He is at high school, where unfortunately he has to deal with gay shaming, slut shaming, fat shaming, and any other type of shaming you can think of.

His best friends are Jenna, an outspoken blogger, and Ben, a gay, black, fat (his words) fabulous fashion designer.

Jenna talks Jack into writing for her blog, as she wants to help people who have questions about sexuality and sex in general, and are too afraid to ask, they are able to write in anonymously, and Jack answers them VERY truthfully.

Look this book is not going to be for everyone.

One, because is is a book about a gay man having no-strings sex, lots of it, but not as much as the rumour mill at school says.

Two, because Jack is not ashamed of who he is, he’s glam, he wears make up, he’s opinionated, and he doesn’t give one sh*t about what people think about him….until the notes.

The notes that are left in his locker and taped to his door are a knockback for Jack, and we see how he becomes a different person when he trys to NOT be who he is.

I LOVED Jack and his friends, I loved the letters that he wrote to the people who were scared to ask them in public, I mean who *do* you speak to about being a virgin, and a gay virgin at that, who do you ask about how it felt the first time, who do you ask if it hurt? How do you admit that, actually you are not that interested in sex at all?

Jack was very truthful with his answers, and also followed them up with example stories of his own.

My first time getting it in the butt was kind of weird. I think it’s going to be weird for everyone’s first time, though.

This book pulls no punches, there is strong language and sex in it (shock horror) and *GAY* sex at that (put away your pearls mother!) If this type of book offends you, then don’t even bother trying to look for it.

I for one, wish that there was someone like Jack in my school, I’m so glad to have met him in this book, and I honestly would tell anyone that had questions about their sexuality or even if they are straight and wanted questions answered to read this book.

Be You & Be Epic

Berit’s Thoughts

This book was blunt, honest, unfiltered, and brilliant! And it is going to make some people absolutely CRAZY!

What??? A book all about sex for young adults? and gay sex at that??? What??? A honest open discussion about sex??? Yes! And seriously as a mother of three I would strongly encourage all you concerned parents to read this book and have a honest discussion with your teenagers about it! What a fantastic book to open up a dialogue with! Almost 50% of teenagers in the United States are having sex… rather than pretending it’s not your kid, why not engage in a conversation? *steps off soapbox*

Jack is out and proud! He loves makeup, his friends, boys, and sex! He is unashamed, unapologetic, and fabulous! When his friend Jana asks him to host a sex column on her blog he happily obliges… he answers questions about anal sex, blowjobs, not wanting to have sex, and more… he answers these questions respectfully, honestly, and thoughtfully! He doesn’t sugarcoat things and he makes one thing very clear; what you do with your body is entirely up to you, do not let anyone pressure you into doing anything you are not ready for! And really isn’t that the message we want for all of our kids? I found Jack’s sex columns to be extremely insightful, maybe a little more insightful than your average teenager? But then I guess Jack was a little more experienced than your average teenager…. and to be quite honest if any of my kids needed some advice on sex I wouldn’t mind it coming from Jack!

This book however was not just about sex it was also about friendship and a mystery involving a crazy stalker… I really liked jacks friends Jenna and Ben and I love the bond between them… nothing beats good friends when it comes to navigating your way through high school…. perhaps Jenna and Ben could have been better developed, but maybe this leaves room for a spin off! I would love to get to know both of them better…. The mystery in this book started off strong, I loved the notes being folded into these elaborate origami animals, and I was very curious to see who was stalking Jack… but the conclusion was a bit underwhelming… having said that I don’t really think that was the purpose of this book nor did it take away from any of my overall enjoyment of the story…. Lastly I just need to address jacks mother, she was so laid-back she was almost comatose… I mean I appreciated her being so open and supportive of Jack’s lifestyle but….

Absolutely recommend! I think every older teen needs to read this book and in a perfect world their parents will read it as well and have a little chat! I think adults will appreciate this, it really makes you realize how far we have come since Judy Bloom… although I remember there was quite the scandal that my mom let me read “Forever”🙄

Murder, She Wrote: Manuscript for Murder by Jon Land @JonDLand @BerkleyPub #6bookbestiesmurdershewrote #bookreview

TGIF booklovers!

I am so excited to share with you today my review for this book that brought back so many memories: Memories of Sunday night sitting in front of the television, when you actually had to get up and change the channel, tuning into CBS and watching Angela Lansbury on the very charming detective show “Murder, She Wrote”📖🖋

It was tons of fun to revisit Jessica and Cabot Cove! This was a really fun group read with my BOOK BESTIES!💕

Murder, She Wrote: Manuscript for Murder by Jon Land

My Thoughts

This isn’t your grandmother’s Jessica Fletcher!

This was such a fun, cozy, engaging, and nostalgic read… it certainly was fun going back to Cabot Cove! I remember Sunday night watching television, when you still had to change the channels manually, and watching Angela Lansbury on “Murder, She Wrote.” Having never read one of the books before I wasn’t sure what to expect, and I have to say I was extremely pleased! Jessica has definitely had a bit of an update, but don’t stress she still is the same charming, intelligent, and Witty character we all know and love…. she just has a little more savvy and a cell phone, but I guess even Cabot Cove has entered the 21st-century….

This time we have a murder about a book… it appears that anyone who has read this manuscript has been killed… but why? And by whom? After Jessica’s longtime publisher is found dead and has been accused of embezzling, Jessica is determined to prove him innocent…. not only that she is convinced his death was murder and she is going to find the killer! As the bodies begin to pile up Jessica is more and more convinced that these murders have something to do with this manuscript…. The investigation takes Jessica to New York and Washington DC, but don’t worry there’s plenty of time in Cabot Cove with the whole gang! I seriously wonder how many dead bodies Jessica has run across in her life? makes a girl wonder?

I loved the fact we got a book inside a book… I enjoyed reading the manuscript titled “The Affair“ with Jessica…. I relished her analysis of the manuscript…. really the perfect murder mystery for the book lover, there were so many little tidbits about the publishing business… I also have to admit the manuscript contain quite a compelling thriller of its own! What a concept to put a thriller in the middle of a cozy mystery? Throw in some politics, the first lady, the publishing world, eccentric authors and you’ve got yourself quite the delightful and suspenseful murder mystery… it was so much fun putting on my detective hat and once again joining Jessica in trying to figure out, who done it? I am absolutely going to watch some of the old shows sometime this weekend, it Hass to be on one of the many streaming subscriptions that I have!

Absolutely recommend if you are a fan of the show or not, this was a fabulously plotted mystery with some pretty amazing characters!

About the Book

Jessica Fletcher investigates a mysterious manuscript with deadly consequences in the latest entry in this USA Todaybestselling series…

Jessica Fletcher has had plenty to worry about over her storied career, both as a bestselling novelist and amateur sleuth. But she never had any reason to worry about her longtime publisher, Lane Barfield, who also happens to be a trusted friend. When mounting evidence of financial malfeasance leads to an FBI investigation of Lane, Jessica can’t believe what she’s reading.

So when Barfield turns up dead, Jessica takes on the task of proving Barfield’s innocence–she can’t fathom someone she’s known and trusted for so long cheating her. Sure enough, Jessica’s lone wolf investigation turns up several oddities and inconsistencies in Barfield’s murder. Jessica knows something is being covered up, but what exactly? The trail she takes to answer that question reveals something far more nefarious afoot, involving shadowy characters from the heights of power in Washington. At the heart of Jessica’s investigation lies a manuscript Barfield had intended to bring out after all other publishers had turned it down. The problem is that manuscript has disappeared, all traces of its submission and very existence having been wiped off the books.

With her own life now in jeopardy, Jessica refuses to back off and sets her sights on learning the contents of that manuscript and what about it may have led to several murders. Every step she takes brings her closer to the truth of what lies in the pages, as well as the person who penned them.
