A Christmas Date by Camilla Isley @camillaisley @rararesources #bookreview #holidayread

Happy weekend book friends!

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend! Delighted to share with you today my review for this wonderful holiday story filled with amazing characters! A huge thank you to Rachel for my invitation to the tour and to Camila Isley for her engaging story!🎄☃️

A Christmas Date

No one wants to be single at the holidays.

Even Little Miss Grinch, Nikki, a successful and independent woman, must face her bachelorette status at the most horrible time of the year.

December is her personal version of holly-jolly hell: a merry torture made of couples kissing at every corner, forced vacation days, and an inescapable family reunion.

And when her baby sister announces she’s engaged—to Paul, the man Nikki is secretly in love with—and that he’s spending the holidays with them, Christmas starts looking bluer than ever.

Nikki can’t possibly survive an entire week trapped home as the family’s spinster. But she has no time to meet men or to try the newest dating app, she’s too busy working as a video producer for an advertising agency.

So what’s a girl to do?

Nikki has the perfect solution: to hire a fake boyfriend.

Luckily, her job gives her access to an endless catalog of gorgeous actors to choose from.

But Nikki will soon discover that keeping business and pleasure from mixing isn’t so easy, and that she might not be immune to a little mistletoe magic. Especially not when she picked out the perfect man as her Christmas date…

A fun, festive romantic comedy with lots of bad behavior and Christmas spirit. Like a creamy hot chocolate with marshmallows, you won’t want to put this deliciously hilarious novel down. Perfect for fans of Sophie Kinsella, Sally Thorne, and Jo Watson.

First Comes Love is a series of interconnected romantic novels. However, each book in the series can be read as a standalone.

My Thoughts

I absolutely adored and loved every single word in this book!

If you could see me you would see that I have a BIG smile on my face, I have found me another wonderful author! I love a book that completely engages you and captures your heart! The storyline in this book was not original, in fact it has been done many times before and the author even mentions that in the book… but these characters were so electric, they completely drew me in!

Nikki is not in the holiday mood, in fact she wouldn’t mind skipping the entire month of December… when she finds out her sister is bringing her new fiancé to Christmas she goes into full Scrooge mode… The worst part her sister’s fiancé Paul, a man she’s had a crush on since college…. determined not to go home for Christmas single and with no time to find a date Nikki decides to hire a date…. as I said this is a popular trope that has been done before, but I have to admit it is one of my favorites!

Nikki is a fantastic character I loved her, I mean what’s not to love the girl is a cat lover! She is also smart and sassy…. I adored her relationship with her BFF Blair… but most of all I loved the banter and chemistry between Nicky and hired date Diego…. Diego was such a good guy, down-to-earth and genuine, the kind of guy you would want to take home to your parents… not to mention he was tall, dark, and handsome… The perfect go to parade in front of your sister, I make her a little bit jealous…. add in some family drama, Christmas festivities, gluten-free food, adorable animals, and you have got yourself one wonderful story!

Absolutely recommend, this is one of the best Christmas romances I have Red this season!

*** A huge thank you to the author and Rachelle for my copy of this book ***

Tattered by Devney Perry @devneyperry @InkSlingerPR #BookReview

Delighted to be part of the blog tour for this wonderful second chance romance💕

Thea Landry has always known her place in modern-day society. It’s somewhere just above the trash can her mother dumped her in as a newborn but below the class where much comes easy. With her tattered shoes and bargain-bin clothes, her life has never been full of glamour.

So when a rich and charismatic man takes interest, she doesn’t fool herself into thinking their encounter is anything more than a one-night stand. Months later, she’s kicking herself for not getting his phone number. Or his last name. She’s given up hope of seeing him ever again.

Until one day, years later, Logan Kendrick waltzes into her life once more and turns everything she’s built upside down. This time around, she won’t make the same mistake. She’s going to fight to keep him in her life—not for herself.

But for their daughter.

My Thoughts

4 Second Chance Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

This is my second book from Davney Perry and she is definitely being added to my favorite romance writer list! The most important thing for me in a Romance is compelling and well develop characters, and without a doubt the characters in this book are compelling and well developed! Also like a plausible plot with a touch of angst, This book had a wonderful plot and not very much angst, but just enough for me! It is also a bonus when the book has a beautiful setting, and I really think Montana fits the bill, a beautiful state!

Thea was such a strong sassy character, I really adored her…. Thea never had all that much as far as material goods….. so after a one night stand with the wealthy Logan she really thought they’d never see each other again… A few weeks after their fling she regretted the fact she did not have his phone number, because she found herself pregnant…. now fast forward several years and Thea and Logan run into each other again this time in Montana… Logan is a strong charismatic man with a bit of an awkward side, he was quite shocked to find out he had a daughter….

The real beauty of this story is that both Thea and Logan put their daughter Charlie first…. Logan really embraced his role as father and you could tell that regardless if things worked out between Thea and him he was going to be there for the long-haul… loved the development of the relationship between Logan and Thea… loved the character development in Thea throughout the book… and absolutely loved every minute these two spent with their adorable daughter, it was quite touching!

Absolutely recommend to fans of a second chance romance with some pretty spectacular characters💕

He stared at me for a long moment. “You’re sure she’s mine?”

“She’s yours.”

“Then that’s good enough.”

“I—really?” I blinked. He didn’t want to verify paternity? He just . . . trusted me?

He nodded. “Really.”

“I swear, I tried to find you, Logan. On my life, I swear it. But the hotel wouldn’t give me your name no matter how much I begged. And you paid cash for your drinks and never mentioned your last name. I tried, but I just . . . didn’t know where to start.”

“It’s not your fault. I believe you.”

The sincerity in his voice made my throat burn. Goddamn it. I was going to cry.

I’d worked so hard not to cry today. I’d fought to keep my emotions in check and my head from spinning out of control. But this was going to make me break.

I wanted so badly for Logan to believe that I hadn’t kept Charlie from him intentionally. The fact that a man like him would trust someone like me without proof meant more than he’d ever know.

“Thank you,” I choked out past the lump in my throat.

“So, um, is Charlie inside with your husband? Or boyfriend?”

The urge to cry disappeared and I barked out a laugh. “Smooth.”

He chuckled. “It’s been a long day for me. Give me a break, will you? This morning I was in New York, then I came to Montana for a business meeting and discovered a daughter. I’m off my game.”

4.5 Disturbing Stars🌟 You Were Made for This by Michelle Sacks #BookReview #PubDay @littlebrown

Happy Publication Day! Thrilled to share my review of this darkly disturbing yet wonderful book!🎉💗🎉

You Were Made For This

You Were Made for This by Michelle Sacks

4.5 Darkly Disturbing Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟.5

Synopsis

Doting wife, devoted husband, cherished child. Merry, Sam, and Conor are the perfect family in the perfect place. Merry adores the domestic life: baking, gardening, caring for her infant son. Sam, formerly an academic, is pursuing a new career as a filmmaker. Sometimes they can hardly believe how lucky they are. What perfect new lives they’ve built.

When Merry’s childhood friend Frank visits their Swedish paradise, she immediately becomes part of the family. She bonds with Conor. And with Sam. She befriends the neighbors, and even finds herself embracing the domesticity she’s always seemed to scorn.

All their lives, Frank and Merry have been more like sisters than best friends. And that’s why Frank soon sees the things others might miss. Treacherous things, which are almost impossible to believe when looking at this perfect family. But Frank, of all people, knows that the truth is rarely what you want the world to see.

My Thoughts

4.5 Dark and Disturbing Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟.5

from the blurb… a dark look at marriage, motherhood,And friendship… don’t always agree with the blurb, but this one is spot on! Michelle Sacks did a fabulous job of painting a disturbing picture…. this book will make you look twice at the closest people in your life…

Sam and Mary have moved to Sweden from New York, and appear to be loving a quieter lifestyle… Mary is the picture of domesticity… baking, cooking, gardening, cleaning, and taking care of her adorable infant son Connor… Sam is taking on A new career and seems more than pleased to have Mary at home playing the loving wife…

This book was told from three different points of view… Mary, Sam, and Mary’s longtime friend Frank who comes for a visit… wow! Looking back my first impressions of these characters sure did change by the end… don’t want to say too much, but none of these characters were terribly likeable…. and a lot of their actions were down right despicable….. One minute I’d be feeling sympathy for a character and then they’d do something and all sympathy went out the window…. and the friendship between Mary and Frank? With friends like that who needs enemies? This book left me feeling as though I needed to take a shower (and not a cold shower)…

This book made you realize things are never quite as they seem…. you only know somebody as well as they allow you to know them…. and everybody has some kind of secret…. A very well done dark and disturbing thriller filled with plenty of characters to dislike!*Warning* some of the content in this book might be a little hard for a more sensitive reader….

Absolutely recommend to fans of a strong psychological/domestic thriller with a darker side….

5 Beautiful Stars🌟A Place for Us by Fatima Farheen Mirza @fatimafmirza @goodreads @SJPforHogarth #BookReview

Happy Monday all! My review today is for a beautiful book that I had the privilege of reading with a group of my Goodreads fellow reviewers/friends/sisters💕 our group has read and reviewed quite a few wonderful books together. When we were approached by Goodreads with this book, we never knew what an amazing experience it would be…

A Place For Us

A Place for Us by Fatima Farheen Mirza

5 Beautiful Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

About The Book

The first novel from Sarah Jessica Parker’s new imprint, SJP for Hogarth, A Place for Us is a deeply moving and resonant story of love, identity and belonging

A Place for Us unfolds the lives of an Indian-American Muslim family, gathered together in their Californian hometown to celebrate the eldest daughter, Hadia’s, wedding – a match of love rather than tradition. It is here, on this momentous day, that Amar, the youngest of the siblings, reunites with his family for the first time in three years. Rafiq and Layla must now contend with the choices and betrayals that lead to their son’s estrangement – the reckoning of parents who strove to pass on their cultures and traditions to their children; and of children who in turn struggle to balance authenticity in themselves with loyalty to the home they came from.

In a narrative that spans decades and sees family life through the eyes of each member, A Place For Us charts the crucial moments in the family’s past, from the bonds that bring them together to the differences that pull them apart. And as siblings Hadia, Huda, and Amar attempt to carve out a life for themselves, they must reconcile their present culture with their parent’s faith, to tread a path between the old world and the new, and learn how the smallest decisions can lead to the deepest of betrayals.

A deeply affecting and resonant story, A Place for Us is truly a book for our times: a moving portrait of what it means to be an American family today, a novel of love, identity and belonging that eloquently examines what it means to be both American and Muslim — and announces Fatima Farheen Mirza as a major new literary talent.

My Thoughts

5 Beautiful Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This was more than just a book it was an experience… I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to read this with a group of my fellow reviewers and friends the “Traveling Sisters”… we have read and love many books together, but this was hands-down the best discussion we have ever had… each of these amazing ladies brought their own life experiences to the discussion and it touched each and every one of us in an unique and special way…. this is a book that will stay close to our hearts and never be forgotten by any of us!

The story of a Muslim Indian American family, that really could be any family…Told non-linearly, The author wove pieces of the present and the past together seamlessly… creating an amazing story…. A story that was above all else about love….

The family in this book faced challenges that many families do, some a little more challenging because of their strict religious beliefs… this book really emphasize the similarities between people rather than the differences… it touched on the power of words both said and not…. The desire to belong and be accepted…. the need for forgiveness both of others and yourself… it was a book filled with struggle, compassion, determination, and love…. The characters in this book evoked strong feelings in me from sorrow, to elation, to frustration, and more….

My words definitely cannot do this book justice…I strongly encourage you to read this book! just make sure you have tissue handy!

Gracie’s Secret by Jill Childs @author_jill @bookouture #BookReview #BlogBlitz

Gracies-Secret-Kindle

My dearest daughter, I will never forget the day I nearly lost you. The day you learned the secrets that would tear our lives apart…

Time stops for Jen when her beloved daughter, Gracie, is involved in a terrible car crash. Pronounced dead at the scene, it’s a miracle when paramedics manage to then resuscitate the little girl.

The relief Jen feels at Gracie’s recovery is matched only by her fury at the driver of the car – her ex-husband’s new girlfriend Ella. Jen has never trusted Ella, and now her worst fears have been confirmed.

But then Gracie begins to tell strange stories about what she heard in the car that day, and what she saw in those moments near death. It’s clear that there’s something shocking hidden in Ella’s past… but exposing it could tear all their lives apart.

An emotional page-turner that will take your breath away. Perfect for fans of Jodi Picoult, Lisa Wingate and Kerry Fisher.

~My Review~

4.25 Intriguing Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟.25

I really have been so fortunate as of late, I have read so many wonderful books! And this book was absolutely no exception to that… I usually go into books blind, I hardly ever read the blurb… so halfway through this I was 🤔 is this a thriller or am I seeing a twist because I read so many thrillers? I’m sure all of my fellow thriller Readers do the same thing, we are always looking for that crazy twist…. not going to tell you if this book twists or not, but I am going to tell you it was an engaging and unique read….

The book starts out with Jen getting the phone call every parent fears, her young three-year-old daughter Gracie is in the hospital… she gets to the hospital to find out her daughter is in a coma and her ex-husband‘s new girlfriend Ella was driving the car at the time of this accident…. needing to place blame Jen places all the blame on Ella… The mama bear in me completely empathize with Jen… and even though I didn’t necessarily fine Jen all that relatable, I did always have her back… Ella on the other hand just rubbed me the wrong way…. even when I found out there was more to her story, I still could not find much compassion for her… The majority of the story is told from Jen‘s point of view…. although we did get some of Ella’a perspective as well, yet that still did not make her more likable…

Gracie was an adorable three-year-old, however I must admit there are times I wished she was five… We’ll just say she was a very mature three-year-old, or it has been so long since I’ve had a three-year-old I don’t remember… when Gracie recovers from her coma she begins to tell her mom about some unusual things such as a light and angels… I really found this part of the book unique and well done… whether you are a believer or not the idea of an angel is comforting… I do want to emphasize however this is not a religious book, there is just some mentions of what happens when you die…. there also is to be quite honest an Erie element to it all as well…

All in all this was a really wonderful debut novel, that I would absolutely recommend for a little change of pace…

*** many thanks too Bookouture for my copy of this wonderful book ***

Happy Saturday all! Thrilled to bring you my review for this thrilling book a psychological thriller with a darker twist🖤

Jar of Hearts

Jar of Hearts by Jennifer Hillier

4.5 Creepy Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟.5

Synopsis

This is the story of three best friends: one who was murdered, one who went to prison, and one who’s been searching for the truth all these years . . .

When she was sixteen years old, Angela Wong—one of the most popular girls in school—disappeared without a trace. Nobody ever suspected that her best friend, Georgina Shaw, now an executive and rising star at her Seattle pharmaceutical company, was involved in any way. Certainly not Kaiser Brody, who was close with both girls back in high school.

But fourteen years later, Angela Wong’s remains are discovered in the woods near Geo’s childhood home. And Kaiser—now a detective with Seattle PD—finally learns the truth: Angela was a victim of Calvin James. The same Calvin James who murdered at least three other women.

To the authorities, Calvin is a serial killer. But to Geo, he’s something else entirely. Back in high school, Calvin was Geo’s first love. Turbulent and often volatile, their relationship bordered on obsession from the moment they met right up until the night Angela was killed.

For fourteen years, Geo knew what happened to Angela and told no one. For fourteen years, she carried the secret of Angela’s death until Geo was arrested and sent to prison.

While everyone thinks they finally know the truth, there are dark secrets buried deep. And what happened that fateful night is more complex and more chilling than anyone really knows. Now the obsessive past catches up with the deadly present when new bodies begin to turn up, killed in the exact same manner as Angela Wong.

How far will someone go to bury her secrets and hide her grief? How long can you get away with a lie? How long can you live with it?

~My Review~

4.5 Creepy Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟.5

“Who do you Think you are? Runnin’ ‘round leaving scars. Collecting your jar of hearts. And tearing love apart.“

Christina Perri 🎵Jar of Hearts🎵

What if you had thought you got away with murder for 14 years? What if you found out your high school boyfriend was a serial killer? Welcome to Geo’s world! Geo was a complicated character… I found her very likable, but I knew she had a huge dark secret, and had done something bad…. I mean she was in jail and she wasn’t claiming that she was innocent…. but how big a part did she play in the murder of her high school BFF Angela?

Loved how this story was told… Clues were given and memories were revealed at the perfect pace… I felt the tension and terror that Geo felt throughout the entire story…. The parts of the book that took place in prison were interesting, however some of them were downright disturbing…. but at least in prison she was safe from Calvin her ex-boyfriend who was a serial killer, or was she?

Kaiser who was BFFs with both Angela and Geo in high school was Geo’s arresting officer… Kaiser has always had a thing for Geo, so he was very conflicted…. really liked him and couldn’t help but think… had she just dated him all of this could have been avoided… so many twists and an ending I did not see coming…

Absolutely recommend to fans of the psychological thriller with a bit of a darker side🖤🖤🖤

The Story of Us

The Story of Us by Lesley Jones

⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 Didn’t See That Coming Stars!

Synopsis

I love him, from the instant I set eyes on him when I was just 11 years old I have loved him and nothing will ever change that, he owns me, he owns my heart and he owns my body and no matter how many lies are told, no matter how many people conspire to keep us apart, despite the fame and the distance, we will find a way.

“Georgia Rae, when we made love you used to cry” … He waits for me to sing my bit. I try to swallow down a sob but I just end up singing through it…
“I said I love you like the stars above, I’ll love you till I die”

Carnage is an edgy coming of age love story that breaks all the rules and transcends the decades. Georgia and Sean’s story will stay with you long after you read the final word.
An emotional, smoking hot, gut wrenching read.

NOTE: This is part #1 of a 2 part story but can be read as a stand alone.

Review

Well this was a lovely story, albeit heart-wrenching.

Meet Georgia-Rae she is 11 years old…….She meets Sean, who is 13, and they both decide that they have met the loves of their lives and will never love anyone else again ….EVER!

Sean and Georgia become a “thing” and stay, and are very happy together, Sean is in a band called Carnage and is gigging around pubs and clubs and becoming quite a big name around the place, until they get spotted by a talent scout and they hit the big time!

The thing is, by this time Georgia is only 16 years old and is still at school, so she can’t follow him around the world, so she follows Carnage from afar and meets up with him when she can.

Sean in the mean time has got himself caught up in the rock-star lifestyle with drugs and alcohol and is getting himself into a bit of a mess.

This becomes evident one day after a huge silly mistake on Sean’s part splits the 2 lovers apart and doesn’t reconcile them until 4-5 years later.

In the meantime Georgia has met and started to have feelings again, and maybe has some real feelings for Cameron King, a big-time London crook, who knows of her family through her father.

Of course the story wouldn’t be complete without Georgia and Sean, but do they find their way back to each other?? Does Cameron stay in the picture??
will your little heart be torn out and stamped on??? Probably!!

🎧🎧 Great narration by Nikki Delgado, i went into this book completely blind so i had no idea that it was even set in the UK, She has a lovely accent and doesn’t sound like the usual posh Mary Poppins British narrators that i have become accustomed to.
