You Were Always Mine by Nicole Baart @NicoleLynnBaart @AtriaBooks #bookreview #pubday

Happy Tuesday book lovers!

Thrilled to share with you today my review for this evocative book!

You Were Always Mine by Nicole Baart

My Thoughts

This was an evocative and addictive read that will reel you in and won’t let go!

This is a story about compassion, trust, deception, secrets, mystery, motherhood, but most of all it is about the darker side of adoption…Nicole Baart brings so much heart and authenticity to the story… her experience as an adoptive mother really shines through on these pages… my brothers are adopted, so I really had a strong connection to the adoption part of the story…. I found the psychological impact on both adoptive mother and adoptive child fascinating….

Miss Baart has woven together a complex story with many layers… A slow burning tale that will keep you turning the pages… you will need to know the truth just as strongly as Jess!

Jess and Evan are separated after 15 years of marriage… they have a biological son Max 13 and an adoptive son Gabe 5… both want what’s best for the kids in this hard situation…. I really felt as though Jess an Evan would have ultimately got back together, that’s what made Evan’s death even more tragic… so what was jess’s non-outdoorsy husband doing on a hunting trip? Determined to find out the truth Jess starts to play amateur Detective… The more she digs, the more secrets revealed, the more complex it gets…. shocked to find out that Evan had been in contact with Gabe‘s bio mom Jess is convince this has something to do with his murder but what? And why? How fragile are the bonds of motherhood? and is unconditional love ever not enough?

My heart broke for Jess, I felt her grief, her determination, her frustration, and her need to know the truth…. Jess is a likable character that will definitely win you over… there was just something about her that made it tremendously easy to put yourself in her shoes….’ maybe it was the stresses of motherhood? Your heart will also go out to her boys, A teenager struggling to come to terms with his father passing away and a five-year-old who already has emotional issues dealing with grief when he can’t even put a name to it… you will really want Jess to find the truth and give this family some closure needed to MoveOn….

A beautifully told perfectly paced story… seriously how can anyone not relate to needing to know the truth after finding out a loved one has been lying to them? Add in the impact this has on your children… HOOK. LINE. SINKER.

Absolutely recommend to anyone who enjoys a good story filled with well drawn characters, a well constructive mystery, and some heart!

PS: I forgot to mention how fantastic I thought the descriptors at the beginning of each chapter were, added an entire additional layer to the story! Well played!

*** A huge thank you to Atria for my copy of this book ***

About the Book

The acclaimed author of Little Broken Things returns with another “race-to-the-finish family drama” (People) about a single mother who becomes embroiled in a mystery that threatens to tear apart what’s left of her family.

Jessica Chamberlain, newly separated and living with her two sons in a small Iowa town, can’t believe that a tragedy in another state could have anything to do with her. But when her phone rings one quiet morning, her world is shattered. As she tries to pick up the pieces and make sense of what went wrong, Jess begins to realize that a tragic death is just the beginning. Soon she is caught in a web of lies and half-truths—and she’s horrified to learn that everything leads back to her seven-year-old adopted son, Gabriel.

Years ago, Gabe’s birth mother requested a closed adoption and Jessica was more than happy to comply. But when her house is broken into and she discovers a clue that suggests her estranged husband was in close contact with Gabe’s biological mother, she vows to uncover the truth at any cost. A harrowing story of tenacious love and heartbreaking betrayal, You Were Always Mine is about the wars we wage to keep the ones we love close, perfect for fans of Liane Moriarty and Jodi Picoult.

Book Perfection💕The Dream Daughter by Diane Chamberlain @StMartinsPress #6bookbestiesdreamdaughter #6bookbestiesapproved #bookreview #pubday

Happy Tuesday book lovers!

Excited to share with you today my review for one of my favorite reads of the year so far! Also another read with my BOOK BESTIES!!!💕💕

The Dream Daughter by Diane Chamberlain

My Thoughts

A captivating exquisitely told story about the power of a mother’s love💕

WOW! WOW! WOW! This was simply book perfection! It already has a spot on my “Fave“ shelf! As well as a spot in my heart! The thing I am most proud of in my life is being a mom; and the three people I love the most in my life are my three amazing children! And even though they are pretty much all grown up now I would do anything to protect any of them! So of course I could not help but put myself in Carly‘s position in this book, to what Lankes is a mother willing to go for her child? Would you be able to face the unknowable? Believe the unbelievable? Take that leap of faith?

If you have not read this book yet, I am so jealous! You have such an amazing treat ahead of you… it is 1970… Carly has just lost her husband to the Vietnam war, and now she has found out that her unborn baby has an inoperable heart defect…. Hunter her sister’s husband, who seems to know the words to the Beatles songs before they have come out, and is also a physicist tells Carly there might be a way to save her baby…. BUT it will require her to believe the unbelievable and have faith and take a huge leap, quite literally…. you see Hunter is from the future he knows how to time travel and he can send Carly to the year 2001 where it is possible to operate on her babies heart… Time traveling? What? Who is the author again? DON’T panic! Trust me! It SO works! Shoot by the end of this book I was almost believing I could travel back in time myself!

Even though the time traveling aspect of this book was interesting and a little stressful… just imagine how much the world change between 1970 and 2001, microwave ovens, cell phones, Internet, the list goes on and on and on… this really is a book all about love, and hope, and sacrifice…. A beautiful heartwarming story with some time travel peppered in…

This is a genre defying, Decade spanning, story filled with all the components you want in a book… A perfectly pased and compelling storyline, relatable and captivating characters, and all the feels! This book truly surpassed my expectations and I probably could go on and on and on, but I will save you that! Strongly encourage you to add this book to your TBR ASAP! It will bring tears to your eyes, a big smile to your face, but most of all it will leave a warmth in your heart!

*** A huge thank you to St. Martin’s Press for my copy of this book ***

About the Book

From bestselling author Diane Chamberlain comes an irresistible new novel.

When Caroline Sears receives the news that her unborn baby girl has a heart defect, she is devastated. It is 1970 and there seems to be little that can be done. But her brother-in-law, a physicist, tells her that perhaps there is. Hunter appeared in their lives just a few years before—and his appearance was as mysterious as his past. With no family, no friends, and a background shrouded in secrets, Hunter embraced the Sears family and never looked back.

Now, Hunter is telling her that something can be done about her baby’s heart. Something that will shatter every preconceived notion that Caroline has. Something that will require a kind of strength and courage that Caroline never knew existed. Something that will mean a mind-bending leap of faith on Caroline’s part.

And all for the love of her unborn child.

A rich, genre-spanning, breathtaking novel about one mother’s quest to save her child, unite her family, and believe in the unbelievable. Diane Chamberlain pushes the boundaries of faith and science to deliver a novel that you will never forget.

The Birthday by Carol Wyer @carolewyer @bookouture #BookReview

Hope you’re having a wonderful Friday!

Today I have a fabulous book I get to share with you! Thanks to Kim for my invitation to the blog tour and to Carol Wyer for hooking me on another series!💛🎂

One hot summer’s afternoon, five-year-old Ava Sawyer went to a party. She never came home…

When five-year-old Ava Sawyer goes missing from a birthday party at a local garden centre, the police are bewildered by the lack of leads. That is until two years later, when Ava’s body is found and another little girl, Audrey Briggs, goes missing. Audrey also attended that party …

Leading the investigation is Detective Natalie Ward. A mother of two teenagers, this case chills her to the bone, and is a disturbing reminder of the last job she worked on. One that still keeps her awake at night…

Natalie soon discovers that Ava’s mother has some worrying gaps in her alibi and as she digs deeper, she’s sure Ava’s father is not telling the full story. And what did the owner of the garden centre Elsa see that day? Something that she’s not telling Natalie …

Just as Natalie is facing up to the grim possibility that Ava and Audrey were killed by someone close to home, another little girl from the party doesn’t come home from her ballet lesson. Can Natalie find a way to stop this killer before more innocent lives are taken?

Gripping, fast-paced and nail-bitingly tense, this book will keep you flying through the pages long into the night. Perfect for fans of Angela Marsons…

My Thoughts

A birthday party, a yellow dress, a missing child….

Carol Wyer sure can suck you into an investigation…. I truly am the ultimate armchair detective (even though I generally read on my couch or in my bed)… some authors do a better job than others in drawing you into the story, making you feel part of it, and I think miss Wyer does an exceptional job of this… there is just something about her characters that breaks down the Barrier between the reader and the book….

When you drop your child off at a birthday party, you never think you will return and find her to have gone missing… five-year-old Ava went missing from her friend Harriet birthday party at a garden center… two years later her body is found, another girl goes missing, and is found in a replica yellow dress…. is someone killing off the children that attended that fateful birthday party? And if so why? Or is the connection a local dance studio?

This is the first book in the DI Natalie Ward series…. The investigation into these missing children has Natalie navigating her way through both parent and playground politics…. and when a third girl goes missing there is a time crunch to Saul the case before another child is killed… with a town full of suspects this was not an easy task… Natalie and I must have changed our minds at least 10 times, and the ultimate culprit…. did not see that coming!

This book was perfectly paste and kept me engaged throughout… The character development was stellar and left me wanting to know these characters better…. Natalie is a wife and mother to two teenaged boys, and is having a bit of a hard time juggling family life and her career… it will be really interesting to see how this develops throughout the series, can Natalie have it all? Does something need to give? And if so what?

Recommend to those of you who enjoy a good police procedural with some fabulous characters and a fresh investigation style…

*** many thanks to Bookouture for my copy ***

Strong by Kylie Scott @KylieScottbooks @InkSlingerPR #PubDay

Happy Tuesday y’all!

Today is publication day for this delightful novella in the Stage Dive series💕

I have already read it and loved it! and my full review will be up on the day of my tour stop October 5!

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Kylie Scott comes a new story in her Stage Dive series…

When the girl of your dreams is kind of a nightmare.

As head of security to Stage Dive, one of the biggest rock bands in the world, Sam Knowles has plenty of experience dealing with trouble. But spoilt brat Martha Nicholson just might be the worst thing he’s ever encountered. The beautiful troublemaker claims to have reformed, but Sam knows better than to think with what’s in his pants. Unfortunately, it’s not so easy to make his heart fall into line.

Martha’s had her sights on the seriously built bodyguard for years. Quiet and conservative, he’s not even remotely her type. So why the hell can’t she get him out of her mind? There’s more to her than the Louboutin wearing party-girl of previous years, however. Maybe it’s time to let him in on that fact and deal with this thing between them.

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you’ll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

AVAILABLE NOW

AMAZON US | AMAZON AUS | AMAZON UK

“Ooh, busted,” said Lizzy. “The bodyguard caught you looking.”

“Shut it.” I inched my chin up a bit, trying not to frown because frowning gave you lines. “Sam and I have known each other for years and nothing has ever happened. You’re completely wrong about this.”

“Am I?”

“Yes, there’s nothing between us.”

“So that’s why you were staring at him?”

I chose not to answer that. “And you know he prefers to be called executive protection officer instead of bodyguard.”

At this, Lizzy burst out giggling, a malicious glee in her eyes. No wonder I liked my sister-in-law these days.

Ben shot us both an irritated glance. We both ignored it.

Of course, I’d known Sam would probably be here. Rock stars going out in public could be a delicate thing. People had a tendency to get overexcited. And while one person wanting an autograph wasn’t a problem, twenty or thirty of them suddenly swarming definitely could be. Having once been part of the entourage, I’d seen it happen to Ben and his fellow Stage Dive band members enough times to be wary. And you couldn’t get by with ordinary security. Rock stars needed protection from their over-zealous fans, but on the other hand they didn’t want the fans roughed up or hurt in any way. It required a delicate balance: control, experience, and a whole gamut of scary physical skills. Hence Sam.

Still, Portland seemed generally less crazy than the good old days back in LA. All of the guys seemed calmer and more settled away from the constant craziness of the party scene. Not to mention the effect of all of the wives/partners and various offspring. The biggest rock band in the world had officially been domesticated.

It was kind of cute. Or sad. I don’t know.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to stir you,” she lied. “What do you think of your brother’s new musical bromance?”

On the small stage set up in the corner of the room, a young man wailed his heart out while playing an acoustic guitar. Much angst about a girl who only called him after midnight. Trust a rockster to turn a simple booty call into a heartbreaking ballad. The song was damn good though. He had talent. If only I hadn’t had my fill of the type when I was younger. The kid looked to be in his early to mid-twenties. Lanky with lots of tattoos. Your typical rock ’n roll Prince Charming. Gag. These days my type ran more toward…actually, what I needed or wanted in a male was a total mystery.

And my gaze did not stray back to Sam. That did not happen.

Costa Del Churros by Isabella May @IsabellaMayBks @rararesources #BookReview #Giveaway #PubDay

Happy Book Birthday to this delightful story!

Excited to help celebrate publication day! Thank you to Rachel for my invitation and Isabella May for her lovely words!🎉🎊🎉🎊

Costa Del Churros

The rain in Spain doesn’t mainly fall on the plain…

Brits abroad Belinda, Julia, Laura and Georgina need more than the sweetness of churros with chocolate dipping sauce to save them from their unsavoury states of affairs.

Cue Carmen Maria Abril de la Fuente Ferrera, the town’s flamboyant flamenco teacher! But can she really be the answer to their prayers?

One thing’s for sure: the Costa del Sol will never be the same again.

My Thoughts

Churros and friendship and flamenco… oh my!

This was a fun story about four ex-pats living in sunny Spain… four very different women who bonded during an unconventional flamenco class… now I know absolutely nothing about flamenco, although I do know more now than I did before I read this book, I think?

This book was told from the perspective of each of these ladies who lead a much different life than my own…. these were characters that did not immediately speak to me, but by the end of this book I found myself completely engaged in their lives… this is a beautiful story about friendship, family, and of course food!

This book left me with a big smile on my face, a bounce in my step, and a craving for churros! Absolutely recommend for a quick escape to Spain…

I Will Survive by Pippa James @PippaJamesbooks @bookouture #BookReview #PubDay

Happy Book Birthday to this fabulous fun book!🎉🎉🎉

Thrilled to be part of the blog tour and share my review today for this debut! Many thanks to Kim for my invitation and two Pippa James for her lovely words!🎊🎊🎊

Frankie is a single mother. She’s bold. She’s brave. And she’s winning at life… isn’t she?

Underneath her big smile and daring outfits, Frankie’s hiding a secret. Her five-year-old son Liam is awesome. But life as a solo parent is tough. Her job as a barmaid sucks, her meddlesome mother is taking over and she’s far from living her best life.

She’s lost her way and she’s starting to feel… lonely.

So when Frankie’s overbearing mother breaks her leg and has to go and live with her saintly sister, it’s time for Frankie to shake things up. Because she wants to turn things around for the little boy who holds the keys to her broken heart.

Surrounded by perfect mothers, Frankie quickly realises she needs some real mum friends to get her through repetitive school runs and red-faced dating disasters. The kind of people who don’t judge your shop bought cakes and bring wine to your door, just because.

So Frankie sweeps up anxious Kate and organised Alison in her whirlwind. As the unlikely trio face the trials and tantrums of motherhood, they learn that parenting is about surviving one day at a time.

And together they can wing it through anything, can’t they?

A hilarious, feel-good story for every parent who

as ever struggled bleary-eyed through toddler tantrums, school fancy dress fails and found friendship over wine and cake. Perfect for fans of The UnMumsy Mum, Why Mummy Drinks and Fiona Gibson

My Thoughts

Fun! Nostalgic! Engaging!

This was a fun book that brought back memories of my kids early days of school… The descriptors in this books very long subtitle are a bit misleading, I wouldn’t necessarily say this book is laugh out loud funny or a romantic comedy…. what it was is a very engaging story that gives a realistic look into motherhood…. filled with delightful characters and an occasional giggle…. A story that I truly appreciated for the story it was, it really depicted this stage of your life so well, with three characters I really grew to adore!

Allison, Frankie, and Kate all have kids in the same class, all are mothers, but all have their own unique parenting style and problems…. Allison is determined to be the “perfect“ mother, she wants to make the “perfect“ friends, and be the “perfect“ PTA member… Frankie had her son young and has relinquish parenting duties to her mother, convinced she’s not a very good mom…Kate is a shy and insecure mom, not sure how she fits in with all these moms that appear so “perfect” on the outside… I found each of these ladies to be likable and real, and I saw a little bit of myself in each of them, even Frankie…. I loved the friendship that blossomed between these three unlikely friends, as they learned they actually had much more in common than they thought…. I also loved how much character growth there was in each of these characters as they navigated their way through motherhood….

There is a little romance in this book and I really did like the love interest, he was a good guy… and I am super glad to see that there is a follow-up to this book, because I really want to know where this relationship is headed… there are also a few other storylines with some loose ends that I would love to see wrapped up…. not to mention I’d love to spend more time with Allison, Frankie, and Kate, and see their friendship bro…

A book that anybody who is a mom, wants to be a mom, or has a mom will absolutely enjoy!

About the Author

Growing up in Birmingham, Pippa James was never without at least one book on the go and therefore lived several different lives concurrently. As an adult, she would like to spend much of her time the same way, but she now lives a chaotic life in a small Derbyshire town with her husband and two children. Her writing is frequently interrupted by parenting duties and her day job as a teacher and the only way she can find a quiet space to think, is by taking her laptop to the pub to drink tea and write, which she does at every opportunity.

Lies by T. M. Logan @TMLoganAuthor @StMartinsPress #BookReview #PubDay #BookBestieApproved

Happy Tuesday book friends!

Delighted to share my review for another #BookBestieApproved book. LIES, kept all of us riveted to those pages, we couldn’t wait to see what in the world was behind all those lies!

Lies by T. M. Logan

My Thoughts

Engrossing! Engaging! Frightening!

Lies lies lies yeah (they’re gonna get you)

Lies lies lies yeah (they won’t forget you)

Lies lies lies yeah (they’re gonna get you)

Lies lies lies yeah

Oh you know I know

This song went through my mind every time I picked up this book, so I thought I’d share with you all! And you’re welcome if this song runs through your head the rest of the day…

This book pulled me in right from the start and did not let go until that unpredictable ending! One small inconsequential decision can alter the course of a life irreparably… if you go to Red Lobster instead of Red Robin perhaps you Will meet the man of your dreams… if you had made a left instead of a right perhaps you would not have got in that car accident… or in the case of this book perhaps if Joe hadn’t followed his wife’s car when he saw it, he wouldn’t have ended up in the middle of a murder investigation….

Joe has the perfect life I loving wife, and an adorable little boy, but as an all good psychological thrillers things aren’t always as they seem…. One day on the way home from picking up his son William from school they see his wife’s car turning left ahead of them… prompted by his son who is eager to share his recently acquired award with his mom, Joe chooses to follow his wife…. and his life will never be the same again!

This book kept me on the edge of my seat and had me quickly turn in those pages, I just had to know what in the world was going on! And the ending? Did not see that coming… all my speculating never took me in the direction that this book ultimately went in… but the scariest thing in this book was the part that technology and social media played…. how hard it is to dispute something that has been posted on social media… or your location when a cell tower pinged when a message…. was sent from your phone…. in this book technology and social media both helped and hurt Joe, and I’m not sure what the ultimate pay off was… but it did truly make you think about social media and how much that has altered today society and our perceptions….

Absolutely recommend two fans of good suspenseful edge of your seat psychological thrillers!

*** many thanks to Saint martins press for my copy of this book ***

A Wedding in Cornwall by Laura Briggs @PaperDollWrites @rararesources #BookReview #Giveaway

Happy Thursday book lovers!

Thrilled to be on the blog tour for this delightful compilation of wonderful stories! Many thanks to Rachel for my invitation and to Laura Briggs for her enchanting words💛

A Wedding in Cornwall

A Wedding in Cornwall (Books 7—12)

The last six novellas in the UK bestselling series A WEDDING IN CORNWALL are now available in one collection! Join American event planner Julianne in her final set of adventures ‘across the pond’ in beautiful Cornwall. From celebrity sightings to a local talent show, from a charming village fete to a secret Cornish garden, there’s never a dull moment for Julianne and her Poldark-esque true love Matthew in the quaint village of Ceffylgwyn.

This collection contains A Romance in Cornwall, A Star in Cornwall, A Sewing Circle in Cornwall, A Talent Show in Cornwall, An American in Cornwall, and A Garden in Cornwall. Exclusive bonus materials include a sneak peek of the author’s all-new 2019 Cornish romance series!

My Thoughts

Charming! Delightful! Enchanting!

This is a compilation of the last six novellas in the A WEDDING IN CORNWALL series… now full disclosure I have not read every novella as of yet, but I am absolutely planning on it! In the lead up to the blog tour I read a few from the first half of the series as well as a view from this half… now Novellas are tough to review generally because they’re well… short… so I thought rather them rehash each individual novella I’d give you my overall impression…

First of all I LOVE this little Cornish town! With a name I had to triple check that I spelled correctly, Cheffylgwyn…. is that right? Filled with quirky and enthusiastic characters that you would love to get to know… each story is a little different… however many characters make an appearance in all the books, with the main characters being Julianne and Mathew…. I really liked these two from the first book going forward, and truly was a little disappointed when they didn’t have that big of a part in some of the subsequent books…. this series kind of reminded me of a much loved television show, with different guests in each episode… we had celebrities, romance authors, bake off’s, and so much more….

These Novellas are a perfect afternoon read when you want a little getaway… The writing is so smooth and easy, and the pacing is perfect… what more can you ask for? Wonderful riding, interesting storyline, fabulous characters, and an absolutely charming setting! Not exactly sure where Cornwall is in England, but every book I read that takes place there is divine! Absolutely recommend for a quick little timeout from reality!

*** many thanks to the author and Rachel at Rachel’s Random Resources for my copy of this book ***

4.5 Startling Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟💫

WOW! Whether intentional or not this book definitely has an ending that has caused some controversy… for me the ending was absolute PERFECTION! It made every piece of the puzzle in this book fall into place and make complete sense….I’ve read other reviews and people described their reaction to the twist as a gasp, or frustration, or pure hatred… not me… my reaction was…. AHA! now I understand….. now I get what ____ was,And why ____ happened! This is not to say I don’t understand why this ending did not appeal to everybody, because I do… but I think everyone needs to read the book and figure out if it works for them or not….

This was my very first Mary Kubica Book… and I’m not sure why, but I can guarantee I will remedy that real quick…. her writing was so beautiful and smooth, almost lyrical…. even though this was a slow burning suspense I found the pacing perfect… The characters were so well drawn and relatable… I empathized with Eden’s struggles and felt Jessie’s grief…. all the little hints sprinkled throughout this book that made that ending so perfect for me, were just brilliant….

Told from Jesse’s point of view in the present and Eden’s point of view in 1996…. Jesse is a young 20-year-old grieving the loss of her mother and trying to figure out who she really is… literally trying to figure out who she is, after finding out that her Social Security number belongs to a dead girl… eden is a young wife struggling with infertility…. my mind ran through so many scenarios as to who Jesse really was and what Eden had done…. both mother and daughter had tremendous love and respect for one another… you just wanted there to be a good answer for all of your questions….

Absolutely recommend to those who enjoy a good suspense thriller filled with some surprising twists….

Happy Tuesday bookworms!

Delighted to share with you today my review for this dark domestic thriller with a bit of a fairytale vibe.🍎

The Other Sister by Sarah Zettel

My Thoughts

4 Slow Burming Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Once upon a time… in a house made of roses… there lived a good sister named Marie, and a bad sister named Geraldine….

This was a dark, eerie, domestic thriller, with a fairytale vibe… not only was Geraldine’s PhD in the study of folklore and fairytales, but we also got little snippets and analysis of different fairytales throughout the book… I thought this was a very appropriate addition to the story, because there were so many similarities to fairytales…. and I’m not talking about Disney fairytales, but the true dark Grimm fairytales…. The story was dark… there was a definite battle between good and evil… the sisters had lost their mother and had a very ogre like father… their Aunt looked like a witch… not to mention they lived in a house called the rose house….

The story is told from the sister’s alternating points of view… from the beginning we are led to believe that Marie is the good sister and Geraldine is the bad… but as in all good stories things aren’t always as they seem…. The characters in this book were very well-developed, however they were not tremendously likable or relatable… this made it difficult for me to connect with the characters therefore I never completely engrossed myself in the story…. I felt like an onlooker rather than a participant…

The story unravels its self slowly…. and as the layers were peeled away more and more secrets were revealed and more and more lies were told… and just like the characters in the book I had no idea who to trust or who to believe… The ending to this book was satisfying, but not shocking….

Recommend if you enjoy a dark domestic thriller where the characters don’t necessarily live happily ever after…

About the Book

Two sisters. One murder plan.

Geraldine Monroe is the bad sister. Reckless and troubled, she ran away shortly after the mysterious death of their mother twenty years ago.

Marie, on the other hand, has always been the good sister. She is the obedient daughter and a loving mother to her son.

Now Geraldine has come home, for good it seems, and no one–not the aunts or uncles or cousins–really knows why. The most suspicious of all is Martin Monroe, the father who rules the extended family and their small town with a poisonous combination of money and coldheartedness. But even he doesn’t realize what the truth is: that the sisters have become allies in a plot to kill him.

Bound by blood and a need to right the past, Geraldine and Marie set their plan in motion. When old secrets and new fears clash, everyone is pushed to the breaking point . . . and the sisters will learn that they can’t trust anyone, not even each other.
