The Cornish Confetti Agency by Daisy James @rararesources *Cover Reveal*

Happy Thursday everybody!

What’s more fun than a cover reveal? A cover reveal for a book that you can’t wait to read!

The Cornish Confetti Agency

A gorgeous sun-filled new story from author of the Villa Limoncello series.

Welcome to The Cornish Confetti Agency!

When the grand finale of Lexie Harrington’s catwalk show ends with a disastrous twist on the ‘ice bucket challenge’, she was expecting her highly-strung boss to fire her on the spot. What she wasn’t expecting was to bump into her fiancé cosied up with an attractive blonde in the restaurant opposite their apartment!

Desperate to escape her heartbreak, Lexie flees to her childhood home of St Ives to hold the fort at The Cornish Confetti Agency for her best friend Freya, leader of the yummy mummy network and firm believer in ‘happily ever afters’. Little did she know that delivering a Caribbean-themed wedding in sunny Cornwall would rival the fashion industry for drama, tantrums and mysterious goings on.

Who is responsible for dousing the bridesmaid’s dress with tomato ketchup? Or hiding the bride’s beloved Jimmy Choos? Or attaching googly eyes to everything in sight?

The perfect Cornish wedding? Is there such a thing for The Cornish Confetti Agency?

Babushka Is Homesick by Carola Schmidt @rararesources *Cover Reveal*

Happy Tuesday all!

Delighted to share with you today this charming story that makes me wish my children were still little!

Babushka is Homesick

Babushka hadn’t been in her homeland since she was a child. She went to the church with a suitcase, and the whole way, Babushka thought about how she would feel in Ukraine after so many years. She sang, and then she prayed. Amen. But Babushka was thinking of her trip instead of the Lord’s grace. After a long time pondering what to expect—if she would feel a sense of belonging—Babushka arrived in her homeland. Babushka had a lot of fun, but she felt like something was missing. She was homesick. “Babushka is Homesick” is a story about memories, family, and the true meaning of the word “home.”

“Babushka is Homesick” is the second children’s book in the Babushka Series. Everyone has their own stories, history, and the desire to belong. The first book, “Tell me a story, Babushka,” is a best-selling new release in Children’s Multicultural Literature on Amazon USA (Aug 2019), in which kids and adults will enjoy fun adventures and identify their own stories.

This folktale is ideal for ages 4-11 and perfect for teachers.

Happy weekend all!

Guest Post

Simone Paradis Hanson lives in Georgia, USA and is the author of two self-published novels, Leave a Crooked Path, a literary novel and The Disappearance of Rachel Stirling, a psychological thriller. She is currently working on a third book.

I met Simone online through a book forum three years ago.We have continued to share our experiences and literary journeys since then.

In conversation with Simone

Jo I have found the indie community of authors to be generous and collaborative. How would you describe the state of self-publishing in the U.S. and people’s attitudes towards it?

Simone In the U.S there is a stigma attached to self-published work. Most, if not all, writers try to find a literary agent from a strong agency who will land a publishing deal with one of the big five publishers. Next best would be finding a small press publisher, of which there are many good ones. They don’t have the financial strength of the Big Five, so the author would do more marketing and there would be little or no advance. Most self-published work is unvetted and therefore readers will not take a chance on these books, and bookstores don’t carry them.

Jo That’s interesting. The picture in the U.K. is mixed. On the one hand self-publishing is becoming mainstream and is an accepted way of publishing books. On the other, as more books are self-published so the competition for readers increases. There has been a rise in the number of companies offering services thus making the process easier, though costly for the self-published author. Bookshops will stock self-published books, but only if they are well written, edited and professionally produced. The stigma that once existed is disappearing, I recently attended what was believed to be the first Book Fair in England solely for Indie authors. There was a waiting list of writers wanting to participate. The fair was busy with customers throughout the day. Clearly there is a need.

The appeal of self-publishing is that publication remains in my control and I can design the cover and choose the paper colour and quality. I would only publish if I could be proud of the product. I have my books professionally edited, copy edited and always have a quantity of books traditionally printed. Marketing a self-published book is where the hard work lies but increasingly the large publishing houses are expecting authors to undertake much of their own marketing unless it is a book that the publishers have chosen to put their money behind.

The popular genre here remains the psychological thriller and crime. It is hard to find agents interested in literary novels. Is that the same in the States?

What do you feel needs to happen to change attitudes?

Simone I don’t think the attitude in the States will change. To be honest, a lot of self-published books aren’t very good. Occasionally you hear about an Indie author who gets a huge following or manages to get an agent because the self-published book did well. I have a friend who did that – she had published a Romance trilogy herself and got a book deal with Macmillan. There was also a recent article in Book Life (a publication for Indie presses and authors) featuring a writer whose first book was published by an imprint of Penguin, and he self-published his second book. Some writers can get the recognition they deserve even if they self-publish, but the general rule stands – there is a persistent stigma attached to self-publishing.

It is costly to self-publish a book; I agree. I pay artists to design my covers and I purchase templates for the interior design. I don’t spend money on advertising though, so my marketing is limited to social media and a lot of networking. I’m invited to two or three book clubs a year through friends’ persistence, so I have a small but relatively steady stream of sales.

Again, since most bookstores in the States won’t stock self-published books, I worry about wasting my money. It would be much easier for me to get to the next level of marketing if I had a publisher to back my work.

I find the idea of a Book Fair for Indie authors very interesting and promising. We have a large Book Fair here in Georgia – The Decatur Book Festival, and they do feature Emerging Writers, though that program was put on hold in 2019 because they were working on “giving it a well-deserved facelift.”  So maybe they will jazz it up a bit and lend a stronger show of support to Indie authors. That sort of thing will need to happen if the stigma surrounding self-published books is going to change in the US. Until that happens, Indie authors will continue to put their energy into finding a literary agent or small press publisher.

The psychological thriller is surely the most popular genre in the States right now, especially if the featured psycho is a woman. If a book has the word ‘Girl’ in the title, it will sell. Crime and spy fiction are popular as well.

Coincidentally, my next book will feature a psychotic woman bent on revenge. I feel like a sell-out for writing a book based on marketability and not a book that reflects what I do best as a writer, which is literary fiction. What do you think of writers who choose a genre based on what sells?

Jo It’s what they tell you to do. Write to the market. I’m not sure I could or want to. However the difference is I am not trying to make a career out of being an author. Writing in retirement I have the luxury of writing because I love it.

I have recently read that women writers are dominating the best seller lists in the States in 2019. I’d like to talk more to you about that and your thoughts on the influence of violence and particularly sexual violence in literature. Perhaps we’ll save that for another time.

Simone Thank you for inviting me on your blog tour. I would love to continue the conversation.

A Degree of Uncertainty by Nicola K. Smith @nicolaksmith @rararesources #excerpt

Happy Saturday from a sunny Southern California!

One of the best parts about being a book blogger is you have access to so many amazing books and are introduced to so many amazing new authors. The problem is you don’t always have the time to get to them all. Here is a book that I would love to read I just unfortunately don’t have the time to, but I’m excited to share it with you because it sure looks great!

A Degree of Uncertainty

A Cornish town is slowly fracturing under the weight of its growing university…

Prominent businessman, Harry Manchester will not stand by and see his beloved hometown turned into a student ghetto — and many residents and students are relying on him.

But Harry’s stance sets him on a collision course with Dawn Goldberg, formidable Vice Chancellor of Poltowan University, who is set on doubling its size and cementing her career legacy.

As Harry’s marriage falls apart, his business comes under threat, and fellow traders accuse him of halting progress, Dawn is battling her own demons, not least the need to live up to her late father’s expectations and erase the memory of his tragic death.

There can only be one victor in this battle for the soul of a close-knit community…

Excerpt

A DEGREE OF UNCERTAINTY by Nicola K Smith

(Extract from Chapter 18)

This extract gives an insight into the stagnant state of Harry and Sylvia’s marriage, shortly after they agree to put the house on the market.

Sylvia watched from the upstairs window as Harry banged in the For Sale sign at the end of the drive. He hammered it quickly and hard, throwing his considerable muscle behind the lump hammer to drive it into the earth. He finished with an almost frenzied display of battering that took her by surprise.

He stood back for a moment to look at it, kicking halfheartedly at the bottom of the post after raining down the final blow. It stood fast. He stared at it for a moment before starting back towards the house.

Sylvia turned away. Out at the back, just over the hedge, a flurry of activity had started as people unloaded three transit vans packed with large black boxes and generators. They ambled slowly to and from the marquee, which seemed to have sprung up out of nowhere the day before.

The weather looked promising. It was a bright February day and there was a hint of warmth in the mid-morning sunshine that flooded through the bedroom window. Sylvia closed her eyes, letting it bathe her face.

She could hear Harry in the kitchen downstairs, opening and closing drawers and cupboards and talking in the gruff voice he reserved solely for Sting. She listened.

‘Sylvia?’ His voice floated up the stairs, as she knew it would.

‘Sylvia?’ She heard his heavy tread, his voice growing clearer.

She placed both hands on the windowsill, examining her thin fingers, the age spots starting to take hold on her skin. His feet retreated back down the stairs and she imagined him standing ponderously in the hallway, Sting purring affectionately alongside.

Slowly she roused herself, opening her eyes once more to the bright light and rejoining the present. ‘I’m coming,’ she called with some effort, but her voice cracked as she did so, fading to nothing.

Harry’s voice rose from the back garden and she looked out to see him striding purposefully towards the field alongside a young guy who stood even taller than him. The younger man’s arm was thrown loosely around Harry’s shoulders, almost protectively. They appeared to be sharing a joke as they disappeared through the gate in the hedge.

She lingered by the bedroom window and watched the activity unfold before her. The cars coming and going, unloading more gear; young people chatting and laughing, embracing, Harry directing things from the middle of the field, stopping to talk to people as he went. She had always admired that about him; his social ease, his ability quickly to find common ground with people, and the way they seemed to gravitate towards him, to find some sort of comfort in his presence.

Sylvia had never been at ease among people. She had always experienced anxiety in social situations, trying too hard or too little, and almost always resorting to silence, choosing shut- down mode as the safest way to navigate gatherings. Since she’d been with Harry, she’d gained confidence. She could play second fiddle while he took the lead, and she felt it suited her, allowing her to find her groove without having to endure the spotlight. There were far fewer expectations of her when she was with Harry. People expected him to perform, to hold court, to lead the way. It meant the demands on her were few.

She watched him walking back to the house alone now, before the familiar sound of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ stopped him in his tracks. He pulled his mobile from his pocket and paused, bending to replace a divot as he spoke.

It was probably her, thought Sylvia, shoulders sagging. Harry turned his back on the house, his free hand in his pocket, toeing the grass while he spoke. Sylvia had heard from Nell that they’d moved into an apartment on the river. She had seen it on Facebook and agonised over telling Sylvia, eventually letting it slip while they were walking one day. Sylvia had given little away. In truth, it had simply failed to penetrate her numb state and she had placed the information as if in a mental pending drawer, to address when she felt able. She had not yet felt able.

When Harry finished the call, continuing his walk towards the house, he caught sight of Sylvia standing at the window. He didn’t break stride or raise his hand but returned his gaze to the path in front of him and kept on walking.

The back door banged shut and she heard him stamping his boots. ‘Sylvia.’

She began to descend the stairs. Harry was standing at the bottom.

‘OK if I bring a couple of the guys in for a coffee in the kitchen? Not the whole crowd, just Ludo and Rockstr probably.’

Sylvia nodded, one hand resting on the banister rail, her foot still on the bottom stair, as if she was unsure whether to descend fully. ‘There might still be biscuits in the tin.’

He looked at her expressionless face: eyes almost unseeing, mouth set. ‘Will you join us?’

She shook her head, still hesitating on the stair.

‘Come on. It’ll do you good.’

The back door banged again and the sound of exuberant voices filled the room beyond. Sylvia turned away to climb the stairs again but Harry took hold of her hand. She turned to face him, surprised.

‘Come on, have a coffee with us. I’ll introduce you.’

‘No, Harry, really. I’ve things to do.’

‘Like what?’

She stared at him, trying to wrench her hand away but Harry held it firmly.

‘Harry. Let me go.’

He let her hand fall and tried unsuccessfully to swallow the words before they came. ‘If you’d just try…’

Sylvia looked up towards the top of the stairs as if at the summit of a mountain. ‘This is me trying, Harry,’ she said softly.

A winter Wedding at the Little Duck Pond Cafe by Rosie Green @rosie_green1988 @rararesources #bookreview

TGIF!

This was such a great edition to this sweet series! I was so thrilled to get the perspectives of all three of the original characters in the serious! 🍰

A Winter Wedding at the Little Duck Pond Café

With Zak and Ellie’s wedding day approaching, there’s high excitement in the pretty village of Sunnybrook, especially among the Little Duck Pond Café crew. Ellie is over the moon with her romantic surprise wedding gift from Zak, and Madison is promising to organise a hen party to remember. Everyone has high hopes for a magical Christmas Eve wedding celebration at gorgeous Brambleberry Manor. (Even Maisie-Moo has a sparkling new outfit.)

But sometimes, even the best-laid plans can go wrong. And with the journey to the altar turning out to be rockier than expected, it’s going to take nothing short of a Christmas miracle to ensure a happy ending . .

My Thoughts

Hens only today, no cocks allowed!

This book started with a hen party and ended with a wedding. The eighth installment in this delightful series and it might be my favorite so far. I just loved that the story was told from the perspectives of all three of the original girls, Ellie, Jaz, and Fen. The story centers around the events leading up to Zak and Ellie’s wedding, but there is much more going on. All the characters (old and new) have a lot going on in their lives and we get to glimpse a piece of all that is going on. I love the strong supportive friendships between all the females in the series. I think it really shined at the hen party and at the pajama party the night before the wedding. How much fun is that? If I ever were to get married again (highly doubtful) I will definitely be having a pajama sleepover the night before the wedding with my girls. Fun, friendship, and food, this book made me happy and hungry! Looking forward to the next installment in this series, I’m hoping Madison finds some love. I agreed to review the next book, but I didn’t even read the blurb all I saw was little duck pond café and lemon drizzle cake and I was in!

This book in emojis 🧖🏻‍♀️ 💅🏻 🐶 💍 🧁 👰🏼

*** Big thank you to The author for my gifted copy of this book. All opinions are my own. ***

Author Bio –

Rosie has been scribbling stories ever since she was little.

Back then, they were rip-roaring adventure tales with a young heroine in perilous danger of falling off a cliff or being tied up by ‘the baddies’.

Thankfully, Rosie has moved on somewhat, and now much prefers to write romantic comedies that melt your heart and make you smile, with really not much perilous danger involved at all – unless you count the heroine losing her heart in love.

Rosie’s brand new series of novellas is centred around life in a village cafe. The latest, ‘Bonfires & Hot Chocolate at the Little Duck Pond Cafe’, is out now.

Watch out for ‘A Winter Wedding at the Little Duck Pond Cafe’, which will be published in December 2019.

Rosie is also writing a full-length, standalone book for Christmas 2019, entitled ‘Snowflakes over Moondance Cottage’, which will be out in November.

The Cottage on Wildflower Lane by Liz Davies @rararesources #coverreveal

Happy Wednesday all!

So excited to share with you today this gorgeous cover for a book that I am so excited to read!💐

The Cottage on Wildflower Lane

Esther’s life isn’t perfect (whose is?) – but she’s happy enough living in her little flat with her boyfriend, Josh.

But that’s about to change.

Bored out of her mind in work, she wishes that something, anything, would happen to liven her life up.

Unfortunately, her wish comes true when Josh calls her from the airport to tell her he’s going to work in a bar in Spain, and she’s not invited, Esther is devastated, and her unhappiness is compounded when she discovers she can actually view the bar via a webcam link and watch him chatting up other girls.

But when she inadvertently clicks on a link to another webcam which shows a pretty cottage and the rather hunky man who lives in it, her interest is piqued and she wishes she could get to know him.

Wishes don’t really come true, though – do they…?

Author Bio –

Liz Davies writes feel-good, light-hearted stories with a hefty dose of romance, a smattering of humour, and a great deal of love.

She’s married to her best friend, has one grown-up daughter, and when she isn’t scribbling away in the notepad she carries with her everywhere (just in case inspiration strikes), you’ll find her searching for that perfect pair of shoes. She loves to cook but isn’t very good at it, and loves to eat – she’s much better at that! Liz also enjoys walking (preferably on the flat), cycling (also on the flat), and lots of sitting around in the garden on warm, sunny days.

She currently lives with her family in Wales, but would ideally love to buy a camper can and travel the world in it.

Marriage to Prospero is what Leonie wants most and the one thing she knows she can’t have. If he found out what she was really like, what she’d been, what she’d done, he’d despise her and she couldn’t bear that. Better to leave now than live a lie – but it’s harder than she expected. If only…

Gabriel is starting to discover the secrets inherent in Leonie, secrets that not even she knows, secrets that will tear the world apart. And the secrets he is keeping are tearing him apart. How can sacrificing those he loves possibly achieve peace when everything he discovers risks the death of millions?

A girl. A monk. An unthinkable sacrifice.

When the choice is between love and life, how can anyone decide?

In a post-apocalyptic future, a girl and a monk, both with extraordinary mental powers, have compelling reasons not to fall in love. But their choices will have consequences for the rest of the world.

After the troubles of his youth, Brother Prospero has found comfort and fulfilment in the monastery. Then he discovers something that forces him to reconsider his whole vocation. How can it possibly be right to leave a life of worship and service for human desire? And if he does leave, will the pressures from his past destroy him?

Orphaned and mistreated, Leonie has found sanctuary and safety at the Abbey. When she comes into contact with Prospero everything spirals out of her control. Everyone she’s ever loved has died. She can’t do that to him. But how can she walk away from the first place she’s truly belonged?

Abbot Gabriel is faced with an impossible choice. He can do nothing and watch the world descend into war. Or he can manipulate events and ensure peace – at the cost of two lives that he is responsible for. Is he strong enough to sacrifice those he loves?

Author Bio

Rachel J Bonner is the author of the compelling and enthralling four book Choices and Consequences series. The first book in the series, Strand of Faith, was published in November 2018. Book 2, Thread of Hope, released on 2nd May 2019, followed by Weave of Love on 24th October, and Cloth of Grace at the end of February 2020.

Getting a degree in engineering, followed by a career in accountancy is probably not a conventional path to becoming an author, particularly in fantasy or romance. Rachel says that, although accountancy isn’t anything like as boring as everyone thinks, writing is a lot more fun. When not writing, she can be found walking in the beautiful countryside near where she lives, which has influenced much of the scenery in her books, or shooting things with her local archery club. Shooting targets only, honest. Nothing to worry about. (Okay, sometimes we shoot Polo mints. Or cabbages. Still nothing to worry about.)

She also enjoys swimming, eating chocolate chip cookies and growing aromatic herbs, especially thyme and rosemary. It’s no coincidence that her heroine likes the same things.

The Cornish Secrets of Summer’s Promise by Laura Briggs @paperdollwrites @rararesources #bookreview #pubday

Happy Wednesday and happy hump day to this fabulous book!

Laura Briggs is a definite must read author for me! I just love her characters, her storylines, and her settings! This was another fun Siri set in Cornwall!

The Cornish Secret of Summer’s Promise

As spring slips away from the hotel Penmarrow, excitement builds for an exclusive auction hosted at the hotel, featuring priceless possessions from a Hollywood actress turned lady of the manor, including her famous diamonds. Celebrities and collectors form a crowd that is keeping Maisie and the rest of staff busy, even as Maisie faces a crossroads for her manuscript.

But when the diamonds are stolen and Sidney is accused by the authorities, Maisie’s dilemma as a writer is pushed aside out of fear that his future in Port Hewer is in jeopardy. Desperation to prove that someone else is behind the theft will lead Maisie to uncover a very different secret outside of jewel thieves and village rumors … one that could change her life and her future forever.

Can Maisie deal with the latest secrets exposed — including those that paint Sidney’s past in a questionable light? And as summer’s dawn alters her idyllic life in Cornwall, will Maisie’s feelings for Sidney change as well?

My Thoughts

A cozy mystery all wrapped up in a cozy romance. Cornwall, A hotel, an art exhibition, a jewelry heist, a false accusation, an elusive author, a budding romance, a private detective, a master thief, an amazing opportunity. LaurA Briggs is the master of creating charming characters, clever storylines, and delightful settings. This is the fourth book in the Hotel in Cornwall series. It can possibly be read as a standalone, but I think you would get more out of it if you have read the prior books.

Maisie is an American living in Cornwall. She came to Cornwall to find her favorite author and ended up working in this lovely hotel. She also met a man name Sydney and has started falling in love with him. In this story the hotel hosts an exhibition where there is a jewelry heist. Not only is Sydney accused of this crime, but Maisie also finds out about his sordid past. Maisie is convinced that Sydney is not guilty so she is determined to solve the crime and prove his innocence. This book was more Mystery than romance, but it was still cozy fun and heartwarming! It ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, but the next book is coming out in April, so we don’t need to wait too long to find out what’s going to happen next.

The Cottage on a Cornish Cove by Cass Grafton @cassgrafton @rararesources #coverreveal

Happy Saturday!

Excited to share with you today this gorgeous cover for what looks like a delightful story!🦦

The Cottage in a Cornish Cove

A heart-warming tale of discovering all you never wanted is exactly what you needed.

Orphaned as a baby and raised by indifferent relatives, much of Anna Redding’s happiness as a child came from the long summer holidays spent with an elderly family friend, Aunt Meg, in the quaint village of Polkerran.

With Aunt Meg’s passing, Anna is drawn back to the West Country, relocating to the Cornish cove where she was once so happy. Filled with memories, she hopes to perhaps open a B&B—and perhaps cross paths with Alex Tremayne again, a local boy she used to have a major crush on and who only had to walk past Anna to make her heart flutter.

Settling into her new life, and enjoying her work for the older, reclusive and—to be honest—often exasperating Oliver Seymour, Anna is delighted when Alex reappears in Polkerran and sweeps her off her feet.

The stars are finally aligned, but just as Anna thinks all she’s ever wished for is within reach, a shock discovery brings everything under threat, and she finds herself living a dream that isn’t hers.

Can Anna rescue the new life she has made for herself and, when the testing moment comes, who will be there to hold her hand?

The Cottage in a Cornish Cove is the first in an uplifting series of romances from Cass Grafton. Get to know the locals, wallow in the quaintness of Polkerran, and fall in love with romance all over again.

Cass Grafton – Bio

An avid bookworm since childhood, Cass Grafton writes the sort of stories she loves to read – heart-warming, character driven and strong on location. Having moved around extensively and lived in three countries, she finds places inspiring and the setting of her novels often becomes as much a part of the story as her characters.

She leans heavily towards the upbeat and insists on a happy ever after. As one of her favourite authors, Jane Austen, once wrote, ‘let other pens dwell on guilt and misery’.

Cass loves travelling, words, cats and wine but never in the same glass. She has two grown up children and currently splits her time between Switzerland, where she lives with her husband and imaginary cats, and England, where she lives with her characters.
