The Little Swiss Ski Chalet by Julie Caplin **Book Review** @rararesources @onemorechapter

Happy Friday all!

What a week! This was such a wonderful story that left me craving chocolate and cheese!🧀🍫

The Little Swiss Ski Chalet

It’s time to pack your bags and head to the breathtaking, snow-covered peaks of the Swiss Alps for velvety hot chocolates, delicious cheeses and a gorgeous love story…

Food technician Minna has always believed that chocolate will solve everything – and it’s just what she needs when her latest relationship mishap goes viral!

So with her bags packed and a new determination to sort her life out, Minna decides to drown her sorrows with the best hot chocolate in the world at her godmother’s cosy Swiss chalet. Chocolate: yes. Romance: no. Until she has a run in on an Alpine train with a mysterious but oh-so-gorgeous stranger…

My Thoughts

Chocolate, cheese, and serendipity! Julie Caplin’s vivid storytelling transported me to the snowy Swiss Alps. Mina is a fun loving, impetuous, free spirited Woman. when Mina‘s impetuousNess leads to an over-the-top impromptu proposal to her boyfriend things don’t go quite to plan. The bad news, the video of this humiliating moment goes viral. The good news, this leads to Mina heading to Switzerland. In Switzerland Mina stays in a charming chalet owned by her godmother where she meets all kinds of wonderful characters, including a hottie named Luke. even though Mina cannot deny her instant attraction to Luke she is putting on the breaks. Luke is way too much like her and that is NOT what she needs in her life right now. but the more time Mina spends in this gorgeous setting and with this gorgeous man the more she thinks maybe what she thought she needed is not what she needs at all.

Such a heartwarming and delightful story! I just loved everything about this book, even all the snow! mina was such a likable carefree character I just loved her spirit. She was seriously up for anything skiing both downhill and cross country, snowboarding, you name it she did it. Luke was such a charmer and there were so many moments between these two characters that so pulled at my heartstrings. One of my favorite parts of this book was the cheese and chocolate Train, cheese and chocolate are two of my favorite food groups it sounded like heaven to me! A stunning setting. Heartwarming characters. Sweet romance. Delectable goodies. A perfect escapist read.

The Villa of Dreams by Lucy Coleman **Book Review** @rararesources

TGIF!

This book was such a wonderful escape! So nice that we still are able to travel through the pages of books, even though we’re not supposed to leave the house. 😷

The Villa of Dreams

‘Beautifully written, comforting and utterly uplifting, Lucy Coleman’s stories are the perfect tonic when life is a little grey.’ Holly Martin

Seren Maddison left behind a rainy Britain to follow her dreams and live and work in Lisbon. The vibrancy, the beautiful scenery and the sunshine, made her fall in love and she knew, instantly, that it would be her forever home.

International artist Reid Henderson has homes in Lisbon and London. Following his painful divorce, his dream is to turn his luxurious home into an art school and gallery.

When Seren and Reid first meet there is an instant attraction, but they are both people who have been hurt, and each have dreams that are so far apart, they aren’t even on the same page.

Can they enjoy one summer of happiness together, as life bestows a gift of memories to cherish for the rest of their lives? Or is their destiny to chart a path into the future, in a home where dreams can come true?

Seren and Reid may be about to discover that love is as much about what you are prepared to give up, as what you are prepared to keep hold of.

Let Lucy Coleman transport you away to sun-drenched Portugal where true love really can conquer all, and home is where the heart is. Perfect for all fans of Trisha Ashley, Holly Martin and Sue Moorcroft.

My Thoughts

A lovely little escape! Lucy Coleman swept me away to Lisbon Portugal with her vivid storytelling. Seren is tired of working for her father and is in need of a change. So she packs up and relocate to Portugal from England. she begins working as a event planner for an art gallery in charge of an ambitious project involving three vastly different artists. One of the artist Reid catches Seren’s I, but it’s complicated. Lucy’s stories always have such an incredible sense of place. her passion and research of Portugal really shown through on the pages of this book. Seren completely embraced her new country and culture. I truly felt that was the best part of this book. Seren Foley immersing herself in this new culture and really trying to completely assimilate. The art was also extremely interesting especially Seren’s own personal art. I also always love reading books that include event planning, I never understand this because I’m not a big event planner? But apparently I really love reading books about people planning things, go figure. The romance was slow burning and very understated. I really liked both Seren and Reid and wanted them to find their happily ever after, but for me it was not the driving force in the story. A nice little getaway to Portugal from the comfort of my couch.

How To Fail At Flirting by Denise Williams **Book Review** @berkleypub

happy Friday y’all!
delighted to share with you today in my review for this wonderful story the perfect blend of humor and tough subject matter. A love story that will steal your heart!🍷

My Thoughts

sweet and steamy. Humorous and cathartic. Authentic and raw. Denise Williams hit me right in the feels and the funnybone with this evocative story. Naya is a survivor of an emotionally abusive relationship learning to flirt and trust again. Armed with a list full of things to do to reclaim herself Naya meats Jake at a local bar. she flirts, she lets him buy her a drink, she gets kissed and she’s determined to have a one night fling. However, the fates seem to have other plans for Naya and Jake. There is a lot of chemistry between these two and they are both thinking this could be something more. But, there is a big unexpected roadblock that could change everything. Is Naya willing to risk her career that she has worked so hard at, the one thing she feels confident about for love?

This was the perfect blend of humor and heavy subject matter. Naya was a likable relatable character I felt a connection to. Jake was a genuinely good guy, nice but not clingy. The corny puns between these two were hilarious and cringy. i’m not often a fan of Instalove, but it worked with these two. Jake really new how to reassure Naya, intuitively. as a survivor of an emotionally abusive marriage myself I thought the subject matter was handled extremely well. The gaslighting, the manipulation, the undermining, hard things to get over. Naya is an intelligent, confident, strong woman who found herself in a bad situation. It always is very cathartic for me to read about characters like this in books takes away the stigma of being a victim of abuse. Jake was such a safe place for Naya. I kept thinking please please do not let our girl down. Now I will say Jake was not perfect and there are some hiccups, but I think those hiccups helped Naya grow even stronger. A beautiful love story that tugged at my heart.

About the Book

One daring to-do list and a crash course in flirtation turn a Type A overachiever’s world upside down.

When her flailing department lands on the university’s chopping block, Professor Naya Turner’s friends convince her to shed her frumpy cardigan for an evening on the town. For one night her focus will stray from her demanding job and she’ll tackle a new kind of to-do list. When she meets a charming stranger in town on business, he presents the perfect opportunity to check off the items on her list. Let the guy buy her a drink. Check. Try something new. Check. A no-strings-attached hookup.  Check…almost.

Jake makes her laugh and challenges Naya to rebuild her confidence, which was left toppled by her abusive ex-boyfriend. Soon she’s flirting with the chance at a more serious romantic relationship—except nothing can be that easy. The complicated strings around her dating Jake might destroy her career.

Naya has two options. She can protect her professional reputation and return to her old life or she can flirt with the unknown and stay with the person who makes her feel like she’s finally living again.

Denise Williams wrote her first book in the 2nd grade. I Hate You and its sequel, I Still Hate You, featured a tough, funny heroine, a quirky hero, witty banter, and a dragon. Minus the dragons, these are still the books she likes to write. After penning those early works, she finished second grade and eventually earned a PhD in education, going on to work in higher education. After growing up a military brat around the world and across the country, Denise now lives in Des Moines, Iowa with her husband, son, and two ornery shih-tzus who think they own the house.

Author Q&A

Hi, there! I’m thrilled to talk with you today.

  1. Tell us about HOW TO FAIL AT FLIRTING!

How to Fail at Flirting is about a professor who decides to push herself out of her rut. After an abusive relationship, she closed herself off and focused on work. Now, years later, she decides a to-do list is the way to stay accountable to her plans to try new things. When she meets a handsome stranger in town on business, he’s the perfect fling. The only problem is that despite numerous flirting fails, Jake turns out to be the person who makes her want to keep trying and she ends up flirting with falling in love. Oh, did I mention he has a few secrets including that he might be a threat to her career? It’s a story about love and healing and finding that person who makes you realize you’re capable of anything.

  1. What inspired you to write this novel?

When I first sat down to write, my son was an infant and I felt buried in momming and work—I needed a creative outlet. I ran into an ex on Facebook and it got me thinking about how past relationships shape us. The book evolved a lot since those first fledgling sentences, but the core ideas about how past relationships shape us and that happily ever after can be on the horizon after a broken heart is what you’ll read in the finished version.

  1. Do you relate to the heroine, Naya, in any way?

Yes! I am a list-maker and a planner. I think I mastered drawing squares as a child so I could make check boxes! Naya’s sense of humor is very in-line with mine, too and, I’ll admit, I share her fear of butterflies. On a more serious note, Naya is an adult woman who hadn’t spent a lot of time prioritizing her own sexual pleasure. Like so many, I found myself in that place at one point. There are a stack of other ways in which I relate to Naya but the biggest is her inner voice. Throughout the book, she questions herself and hypes herself up and ultimately learns to trust herself. I’m not sure I’ll never not relate to that!

  1. What was your favorite part of writing the book? What was your biggest challenge?

I geek out over writing love scenes. I’ll admit, there are several deleted love scenes sitting in my DropBox. Whether it’s a physically intimate scene or a scene to build sexual tension, those are the scenes I walk away from whistling a tune.

The biggest challenge for me is editing. I love these characters so much and I want you to know them as well as I do, so I tend to overwrite. In the end, it helps me know the story better, but along with those deleted love scenes is lots of Jake and Naya Trivia!

  1. What do you hope readers will take away from reading HOW TO FAIL AT FLIRTING?

I hope readers will take away three main things. First, “That Denise Williams writes good books!” Just kidding… or not! More seriously, I hope readers walk away from HOW TO FAIL AT FLIRTING knowing heartbreak and trauma don’t preclude you from enjoying humor, affection, good sex, and love…that someone working to heal can still get their happily ever after.

Is there anything readers should know?

I mentioned Naya is a survivor of relationship violence with an ex co-worker. I hope readers who might have personal experience or be otherwise triggered by that take care of themselves by reading reviews or visiting my website to review the content warning.

Is Jake based on someone specific?

Jake isn’t based on one person, but I borrowed traits from some of my favorite men. Jake can be silly and playful like my husband, is patient and a good dancer like my dad, he’s protective like my brother, unconcerned with external pressure to exhibit toxic masculinity like so many close friends, and I think he looks like Henry Cavill, who I don’t know personally…but I’m up for the introduction.

The Starcrossed Sisters of Tuscany by Lori Nelson Spielman**Book Review** @berkleypub

Happy Tuesday all!

This book was such a treat! The perfect book at just the right time! I cannot recommend it enough!🍷

My Thoughts

Family… Romance… regret… heart… hope… Lori Nelson Speilman swept me away to Italy and stole my heart with her vivid storytelling. For generations the second daughters of the Fontana family have been cursed, never to fall in love and get married. Emilia is resign to her fate, spending her days working in the family bakery and her nights at home with her cat. Lucy’s approach is a bit different, she spends all her energy trying to find a man and is constantly getting her heart stomped on. When the cousin’s Aunt Poppy reaches out to take the girls on an all expenses paid vacation to Italy they are intrigued. But their grandmother has not spoken to her sister Poppy in decades and forbids the girls to go to Italy. Unfortunately for grandma the allure of an Italian trip and the possibility of the curse being broken is too much. So Emilia and Lucy pack their bags and head to Italy. The food… the sites… the sounds… the smells… the family secrets… As The ladies travel around Italy Poppy begins to share the story of her romantic yet heartbreaking past.

I absolutely LOVED everything about this book! It is hands-down the best travel romance I have ever read. Sometimes when you read a book where travel is involved it can get really bogged down with descriptions of the food, and the sites, and all that. This book brought Italy alive, but the vivid descriptive writing did not detract anything from the gorgeous storyline. Emilia, Lucy, and poppy were such well developed characters with so much charm and heart as well as many insecurities and flaws. Most of the story takes place in current times, but we also got a generous sprinkling of flashbacks about Poppy’s lovestory. This is a story that will make you feel. I laughed, I cried, I got frustrated, I found joy. This is a can’t miss for anyone who loves the love.

About the Book

An international best seller!

A Library Reads pick and Indie Next Pick!

A trio of second-born daughters sets out on a whirlwind journey through the lush Italian countryside to break the family curse that says they’ll never find love, by New York Times best seller Lori Nelson Spielman, author of The Life List.

Since the day Filomena Fontana cast a curse upon her sister more than 200 years ago, not one second-born Fontana daughter has found lasting love. Some, like second-born Emilia, the happily single baker at her grandfather’s Brooklyn deli, claim it’s an odd coincidence. Others, like her sexy, desperate-for-love cousin Lucy, insist it’s a true hex. But both are bewildered when their great-aunt calls with an astounding proposition: If they accompany her to her homeland of Italy, Aunt Poppy vows she’ll meet the love of her life on the steps of the Ravello Cathedral on her 80th birthday and break the Fontana Second-Daughter Curse once and for all.

Against the backdrop of wandering Venetian canals, rolling Tuscan fields, and enchanting Amalfi Coast villages, romance blooms, destinies are found, and family secrets are unearthed – secrets that could threaten the family far more than a centuries-old curse.

The First Time We Met by Jo Lovett **Book Review** @rararesources

Happy Thursday!

Do you believe in love at first sight? Then do I have the book for you! And even if you don’t you’ll enjoy this lovely romantic story.☔️

My Thoughts

Do you believe in love at first sight? Jo Lovett will tug at your heart strings with this romantic story. Izzy and Sam first meet in December when Izzy is working as a waitress. There is an instant spark when these two meet. So why does Sam say no when Izzy asks him out? Well he has a good reason… it is his wedding day. Time passes: marriage, children, new jobs, new countries, and yet they cannot seem to forget. Over a decade has passed and Sam reaches out to Izzy ostensibly for help for his son. They begin an email correspondence, but an ocean, many yearsand relationships, separate these two. Will they be able to rekindle the spark?

Do you believe in “the one“? OK full confession- I do not necessarily believe in love at first sight or the one and yet I really enjoyed this story. Both Izzy and Sam were fabulous characters. I found them both so kind, genuine, and likable. Also found them both quite frustrating at times. I wasn’t always thrilled with some of the characters choices and didn’t like how fickle Izzy was throughout most of the book. Nevertheless, this was an engaging story that warmed my heart.

About the Book

What if you met The One on his wedding day?

Izzy doesn’t believe in love at first sight, but when Sam walks into the cafe where she works one winter’s morning, she knows without a doubt that he’s The One. Too bad Sam’s getting married. Today.

Nearly a year later, Izzy still can’t stop thinking about Sam, the one that got away, but she knows it’s time to move on: he’s a married man and probably wouldn’t recognise her if he passed her on the street.

But Sam has never forgotten Izzy, the funny, gorgeous woman who asked him out on his wedding day. If the timing had only been better, he knows they could have had something wonderful.

When Izzy and Sam’s paths finally cross again, everything has changed. But with the Atlantic Ocean and decades of baggage between them, they are about to find out whether some obstacles are too big for even true love to overcome.

An unforgettable love story about what happens when the stars finally align. Fans of One Day in December, The Day We Met and Jojo Moyes will fall head over heels for The First Time We Met.

Winter at Wishington Bay by Maxine Morrey **Book Review** @rararesources

Happy happy day all

Not going to lie I am not been quite sure what day it is. I am so exhausted and I’ve had a pit in my stomach for the last three days – although I am hopeful and optimistic about this election.💙 i’m not even a very political person and I’m looking so eager to worrying about normal things like what I’m going to eat next or read next or wear tomorrow.😌

Winter at Wishington Bay

Eighteen months ago, Sophia Jones finally walked out on her unhappy life.

With a tricky divorce ongoing, money is tight and so when friends offer her a housekeeping job while they’re away travelling, she accepts.

Nate McKinley is hesitant when his brother, Gabe, offers him the use of their home in the picturesque village of Wishington Bay. But he has a book to a write and an imploded marriage to recover from, so maybe a change of scene is exactly what he needs.

As Wishington Bay works its magic, friendship blossoms between Sophia and Nate. For Nate, finally feeling able to be himself with someone who is honest and down to earth is a revelation.

But Sophia has a secret and a jealous colleague is determined to blow her cover. Can she really keep her old life in the past or is it destined to destroy this new, happy one too?

Take a trip back to Wishington Bay this winter and find out…

A deliciously heart-warming and romantic read, perfect for a cosy winter’s evening, from the author of the bestselling Winter’s Fairytale.

My Thoughts

A wonderful whimsical wintery romance! This is the second book by Maxine Morrey to take place in the charming village of Wishington Bay. Sophia moved to the small village a year and a half ago to escape her previous life, taking a job as a server and a house cleaner. Nate, Gabe’s Brother, has retreated to the UK from Australia after a bad divorce. Gabe and Holly ask Sophia to keep an eye out on the broody soon to be bachelor. But Sophia was not anticipating such a grouch or for there to be such chemistry between the two of them.

This was such a lovely story – definitely Christmas light. Sophia and Nate were both complicated characters with some baggage. Sophia has a huge secret about her pass that she’s keeping from everybody in town, I was very curious to see what that was – although I’m not sure exactly why the big secret was so big? It was fun catching up with some characters from the previous book, especially Brian the dog! Another sweet small-town romance that left me smiling!

Rescue You by Elysia Whisler **Audiobook Review** @harperaudio @harlequinbooks

Happy Friday friends!

Super excited to share today my review for this fun romance filled with dogs, fitness, and love.🐶

My Thoughts

Emotional and heartwarming. Comforting and raw. Healing and hurt. Elysia Whisler stole my heart with this gorgeous Romance filled with deep feelings and furry friends. Sisters Constance and Sunny have gone through a lot together. Now they’re both focusing on saving others, dogs in particular. Constance is a massage therapist but she doesn’t only work on two legged clients, but the four-legged variety as well. Sunny owns a dog shelter and is known to have “stolen“ a dog or two from a bad situation. When Constance finds herself in a hard-core gym owned by Rhett there is an instant connection. BUT the wounds in both Constance and Rhett run deep. What follows is a story filled with sweat, tears, anger, fear, regret, determination, healing, and of course dogs.

This was such an engaging Romance with so much substance and heart. The characters were so well-developed, multi dimensional with real and relatable emotion. Loved Constance as a character and was so interested in her job. I have worked all my adult life in gyms and I really enjoyed the fitness aspect of the story. And of course all the dogs added another heartwarming layer to the story. The romance was so quiet and patient, I really loved how feelings developed between Constance and Rhett in the story. There is a secondary romance going on in the story that I would love to see further explored in a future book. Lisa Larsen narrated the audiobook and did such a wonderful job. I loved the voice she gave each character especially that of Constance. You could just feel the compassion dripping from Constance when she was voiced through the narrator. If you like dogs, fitness, Romance, and emotion then this is a can’t miss.

The Winter We Met by Samantha Tonge **Book Review** @rararesources

Happy Thursday all!

This was such a fun festive story! Definitely put me in the festive mood!🎄

The Winter We Met

When charming, mysterious Nik sits next to Jess on a plane home from a Christmas toy trade fair, she never could have imagined the impact he’d have on her life. As they touch down in London, Jess is hesitant to let Nik walk away, and before she knows it, she’s invited him to visit.

As the two take in the delights of the toy store where she works, Jess gets an upsetting phone call. Willow Court, her grandmother’s care home, is to close before Christmas. Jess is determined to find the perfect new home for her Gran – and throw the best Christmas party Willow Court has ever seen!

But time is running out with the closure looming and Jess becomes increasingly drawn to enigmatic Nik who joins forces with her and best friend Oliver to realise those plans.

Will a chance encounter on an aeroplane bring love to Jess’s life or is this Christmas miracle too good to be true?

My Thoughts

Fa la la la festive! This was such a charming story bursting with holiday cheer. Jess meets Nick when she sits in the wrong seat on the plane flying home. Jess is enchanted by Nick’s old-fashioned charm. When back in the UK Jess and Nick continue to develop their friendship based on their mutual interests of toys and books. Oliver, Jess’s BFF and roommate is less than pleased with this new budding friendship. Nick seems to be a little too good to be true, but is there more to this story?

This book was so comforting like a warm hug. Jess, Nick, and Oliver were such delightful characters. I just loved the wholesome and whimsical vibe of this entire story. The residence at the home where Jess’s Gran lived were simply lovely. Yummy treats. Darling decorations. Engaging characters. Sweet relationships. A perfect Christmas gem!

The Cottage of New Beginnings by Suzanne Snow **Book Review** @rararesources

Happy Friday y’all!

Wow things keep getting more interesting. All I want to say about Trump testing positive for COV 19 is… karma! Oh and wear a mask 😷 If you are looking for a sweet easy romance do I have a book for you! 💕

The Cottage of New Beginnings

One crumbling cottage. One broken heart. A chance to start over?

When Annie returns to Thorndale, the village where she spent much of her childhood, she’s looking for a new start. All she wants to do is fix up the cottage her godmother left her, and fix up her broken heart.

When she clashes with local hero, Jon, Annie can’t help but wonder if coming back to Thorndale was a mistake. The village has clearly changed and the last thing she needs is more drama. But avoiding the distractingly handsome Jon is proving impossible, especially when Thorndale seems to be conspiring to throw them together…

Annie is looking for a fresh start with zero romance – but what if the only way to learn to trust again is to take a risk on love?

The perfect cosy romance for fans of Julie Houston, Victoria Walters and Trisha Ashley.

My Thoughts

A sweet small-town romance. Annie has been dumped by her fiancé so she heads to Thorndale for a new start. On one of her first days in town she has an unpleasant encounter with the handsome American John. What follows is a will they won’t they romance filled with miscommunication and misunderstandings. This was an enjoyable although somewhat predictable romance. The focus of the story is primarily on the romance, you don’t really get to know Annie and John outside of the blooming relationship. Admittedly I do like a little more character development and context in my books. But there was also something comforting and easy about a straightforward happily ever after romance.
