A Summer to Remember by Victoria Cooke @victoriacooke10 @rararesources #bookreview #asummertoremember

Happy Thursday all!

Excited and delighted to share with you today my last summer read of the summer! The perfect way to end a fabulous summer reading season! Thanks once again to Rachel for my invitation to this tour!🍹

A Summer to Remember

Sam lives by the mantra that it is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.

After the tragic loss of her husband, Sam built a new life around friends, her cat Coco and a career she loves. Fending off frequent set-ups and well-meaning advice to ‘move on’, Sam is resolutely happy being single.

But when Sam gets seconded to her firm’s Boston office for the summer, it is more than her career that is in for a shake-up. A spur of the moment decision to visit the idyllic beaches of Cape Cod could end up changing her life forever.

My Thoughts

Victoria Cook has written another engaging story that made me smile and swoon. Not going to lie I was a little disappointed to find out most of this story does not take place in the UK, but rather the US. Good news was it took place in Boston and that is all the way across the country from me and a place I’ve never been so I did get to travel with my read, just not as far as I was anticipating. Additionally the setting of the story was quite delightful and quaint. Such a heartwarming story filled with a tremendous amount of hope and heart. A book about starting over, moving on, and never giving up.

Sam lost her husband many years ago and for the most part she has moved on, just not in the romance department. But Sam is satisfied with her life, she is surrounded by good people and successful in her career. A three-month stent in Boston might just be the thing to push her career to the next level. But Boston is not everything she dreamed it to be. Sam was likable although sometimes she frustrated and confuse me. Ethan the rude/stranger/love interest was a good guy who I found quite lovable myself. Also loved all the secondary characters especially Barney and Harry. A fabulously fun story, the perfect way to end my summer of great reading.

When You Were Mine by Lisa Swift @LisaSwiftAuthor @herabooks @rararesources #bookreview #whenyouweremine

Happy Thursday all!

Loved this book! This was so much fun I just absolutely fell in love with these characters and did not want the story to end! Thanks Rachel for my invitation to the tour!💘

When You Were Mine

Life is a love song when you find the right notes

Maggie and Ibby make up a happy – if unconventional – family. After meeting at university, they now live in the village of Applecroft on the beautiful West Country coast.

Okay, so Ibby’s gay and prone to disastrous dates, while couples’ counsellor Maggie spends her days helping people with their relationship problems despite having no sex life of her own. Nevertheless, they’re devoted to bringing up teenage daughter Amelia – the result of a drunken one-night stand when they were students – in a stable and loving family.

Until a face from the past – in the form of hard-partying rock star Jordan Nash – disrupts their quiet lives. As Jordan struggles with his personal demons and old secrets are revealed, can Maggie and Ibby stay strong? Or will bringing back the past threaten all that they’ve built in the present?

My Thoughts

What an absolute gem! This was such a delightful story full of family, love, friendship, second chances, and forgiveness. The story starts off jumping between two seemingly separate stories. Maggie and Ibby are best friends and coparents to their teenage daughter Amelia. The two have been roommates since university, but never romanticly involved. Ibby is gay and Amelia is the product of a drunken one night stand. Jordan is a super famous drug using lead singer for one of the UK’s most famous bands. At first it is not clear how these two stories are related, but as the book progresses things begin to fall into place. A non-traditional love story about love in all its many forms. This book also took on many social issues including homophobia and drug use, I think this was done well and not heavy handed.

This book had so many wonderful characters in it. Maggie, Ibby, and Jordan were all well-developed likable characters who I was definitely rooting for. The secondary characters Other Max, Nikki, and Nat were great. Can I just say I loved how they called there other BFF Other max! But for me the shining star of the book was Amelia, the girl had some major spirit and fierce determination, and yet she still was sweet and vulnerable. This was an engaging and sweet story with a few unexpected twists. I really enjoyed spending time with these characters and was sad when it ended. This is my first book from Lisa Swift (with any name) but it certainly will be my last.

A Highlander Walks Into a Bar by Laura Trentahm @stmartinspress #bookreview #ahighlanderwalksintoabar

Happy Sunday book friends!

Excited to share my review for this fun sweet romance! A little Scottish southern fusion if you will! Thank you so much Kelly for my invitation to the blog tour!

My Thoughts

Laura Trentahm has written a fun, sweet, and entertaining romance. A little Scottish Southern fusion. Isabels mom Rose returns home to Georgia from Scotland with a BIG surprise. The surprise is not a plaid skirt, but a Scottish man who Isabell is instantly suspicious of. When his mate Alasdair shows up Izzy’s suspicion is deepened. Izzy is also stressed out because it seems as though the planning of the Highland games (an annual town event) has completely fallen to her with her mother preoccupied with the Scot. It appears as though a passion for a man in a kilt runs in the family as Izzy and Alasdair get better acquainted. But are these Scottish men’s intentions completely noble? And what will happen when secrets are revealed?

This book was pure romantic summer entertainment! I loved the Scottish Southern blend. I really loved Izzys character she was a strong, smart, and savvy woman with a heart of a dreamer! Alasdair wasn’t too bad himself and I liked how he encouraged Izzy. The story was fairly predictable as most romances are and there was definite Insta love. What made this a special read for me besides the accents and the location, was the charm and the whimsy of the story. This book just made me feel good, a good time with a few laughs! I’m still trying to figure out if I like a man in a kilt or not?

Izzy’s mother is so infatuated by the fellow that Izzy has to plan their annual Highland Games all by herself. Well, not completely by herself. The Highlander’s strapping young nephew has come looking for his uncle…

Alasdair Blackmoor has never seen a place as friendly as this small Georgia town—or a girl as brilliant and beguiling as Izzy. Instead of saving his uncle, who seems to be having a lovely time, Alasdair decides he’d rather help Izzy with the Highland Games. Show her how to dance like a Highlander. Drink like a Highlander. And maybe, just maybe, fall in love with a Highlander. But when the games are over, where do they go from here?

Guest Post for Audio Killed the Bookmark

The Other Side of Books

By Grace Parks

There are three sides to every story. Your side. Their side. The truth. And the truth is usually an amalgamation of both sides. Life is never black and white. While this is about books, this post can apply to any of the creative arts. The moment you put something you’ve created out into the world, is the moment all your walls come crashing down. Not by you, but by everyone who is there to judge you. And judge you they will.

Recently, a girl in one of my Facebook writing groups admitted anxiety and fear was getting in the way of her writing. What followed was a slew of encouragement from other writers, most of whom suffer from the same inflictions. However, these comments were from fellow writers, and not the general public. That’s the difference. It showed me that most creatives have a tendency for deep insecurities, yet we’ve put ourselves in a situation that’s asking for ridicule. It’s not an easy route to take, and probably the biggest reason why most people never end up sharing their creations. I wonder how many amazing books are stored on computers all around the world. It’s sad to think that most of these will never get seen.

People forget that there is an actual person behind a book (or creation). They don’t see the excitement, the fears, the endless hours of work that goes into it. They don’t see the human side to it. So far, I’ve been lucky with my books, but that’s probably because I’m still new to it. The more people who read my books, the more I’ll be exposing myself to negative reviews. So far, my reviews have been great, and mostly positive. Some have been so wonderful they have reduced me to happy tears (and an awkward little dance at my desk). I never understood the joy someone would get from a good review until now. I’ve had one bad review, one little two star on Goodreads that shattered my fragile heart. I quickly went through some famous authors, like Stephen King, to see what reviews they got. In King’s one book he had around 2000 one star reviews and a load of awful comments. As ridiculous as this was, it made me feel a bit better. If King could get bad reviews, I could too. Sure, I know that we all have different tastes. What I love you might hate, but there’s a way of putting your point across while still remembering the person on the receiving end. You don’t have to like something, but you don’t have to slate it either.

It’s sad that we live in a world where we’re so frightened to share something of ourselves for fear of what others might say. So, for those who have put their work out there regardless of this, I salute you. Let’s be brave (or at least pretend to be)together.

The Determined Lord Hadley By Virginia Heath @VirginiaHeath_ @rararesources #bookreview #giveaway

Happy Tuesday all!

This is kind of a weird week here in the US, we have a holiday on Thursday and not everybody has Friday off. I guess you can’t move July 4 around like we do with all our other holidays! Thank you so much Rachel for my invitation to this tour, this was a fun read!⚓️

The Determined Lord Hadleigh

Haunted by Penny Penhurst’s courage on the witness stand, meticulous barrister Lord Hadleigh offers her a housekeeper position at his estate. Despite trying to stay detached, Hadleigh is charmed by her small child and surprised by how much he yearns for this proud woman! Can this he break through his own – and Penny’s – barriers to prove he’s a man she can trust…and love?

My Thoughts

I was clearly not paying attention when I told Rachel I’d review this book. Not only is it the fourth book in a series of which I have read none of the books. But it is also historical romance a genre I am not too crazy about. However I found myself completely captivated by the story. Virginia Heath’s writingIs clever and smooth. The characters were engaging and the storyline was intriguing. I would advise however this is a series best read in chronological order, because I am certain there was a lot I did not catch. The apologue brings back all the characters from the previous books and ties everything up nicely, made me really realize there was a lot to the series that I missed.

This was a complicated slow burning romance that captured my heart. Lord Hadley is a straight laced barrister. Penny is about to lose everything her despicable abusive husband is on trial for treason. Lord Hadley feels guilty for convicting Penny’s husband so he offers her a job and the sparks begin to fly. I thought the romance was perfectly paste and sweet. The chemistry between Tristan and Penny definitely came through on the pages. There were some things having to do with the politics of it all that I wasn’t completely certain of, but all in all this was a extremely enjoyable read. A lovely romance that stole my heart!

To the Stars and Back by Camilla Isley @camillaisley @rararesources #bookreview #tothestarsandback

TGIF!!!

I have the perfect weekend read for you today! This was such a fun lighthearted story with some pretty darn fabulous characters! Thanks Rachel for my invitation to this tour!💫

To the Stars and Back

When Hollywood’s sexiest bachelor meets the girl next door their relationship doesn’t follow the script…

On-screen, Christian Slade is America’s favorite heartthrob. Off-screen, letting romance into his life isn’t as easy. The women he dates all seem to want a piece of his glamorous life rather than his heart, and trust doesn’t come easy for him.

Then along comes Lana. A beautiful rocket scientist who’s also sweet, smart, sexy, and has absolutely no idea who he is. But what will happen when she finds out?

Will their worlds prove too far apart or could love really be like in the movies?

My Thoughts

This was a fun, cute, entertaining story! This is the fourth book in Camilla Isley’s “First Comes Love” series. I have only read the third book prior to this one and I don’t think that impacted my enjoyment of the story. There are some appearances from previous characters but the stories are self contained. Christian and Lana have a meet cute when they are both hiding out in a hotel closet. Christian who has appeared in previous books is a big time movie star and quite swoon worthy! Lana is a “rocket scientist“ smart and sweet with no knowledge of Christian and his star power. I’m sure you know where this is going, but as in all good romances it’s not the destination it’s the journey! And this was a lot of fun!

The characters in this series are so much fun, so relatable, the kind of people you’d love to meet. I really liked Christian and Lana together they had a definite connection. Made me think though what I want to date a famous movie star? I think in my youth I probably would have and been so insecure it would have driven me insane. Now that I’m older and much more confident I don’t think I’d want to be part of that kind of lifestyle. Fortunately for us all I have never had to make this decision, no movie star is knocking down my door, maybe I need to jump in a hotel closet? An engaging story perfect for a lazy summer afternoon of reading!

The Baubab Beach Retreat by Kate Frost @Kactus77 @rararesources #bookreview #thebaubabbeachretreat

Happy Sunday!

Delighted to share this exotic romance with you all today! Thank you so much Rachel for my invitation to this tour!☀️

The Baobab Beach Retreat

An ex-husband, two potential lovers, one reckless decision. Will Connie ever be happy in love?

When Connie Stone leaves behind a cheating husband and heartache in the UK for her aunt’s beach retreat, the last thing she wants is for her life to once again be complicated by men.

Yet when her past follows her to Tanzania, her time to heal is short-lived and a selfish act shatters her hopes for a fresh start. An unexpected return to the UK reveals a long-hidden family secret that Connie has to deal with before she can decide the direction her life should take.

Getting over a broken heart was never going to be easy. Can Connie put the past to rest and find peace and love in a country far from home?

My Thoughts

Kate Frost wisked me away to Tanzania with her evocative storytelling. Connie is distraught over her recent divorce and decides to head to her aunt’s Beachhouse in Tanzania. Must be nice when I got divorced I moved to an apartment about 10 minutes away from my previous house, LOL! Suppose I should’ve been more distraught! Anyways I digress… The story was so descriptive and the setting was so exotic. Seriously how could you not feel better about life in such exquisite surroundings. Soon enough Connie finds herself in a bit of a love triangle, in the middle of family secrets, and rebuilding her future.

Loved watching Connie grow throughout this book. She was a likable and sympathetic character that you couldn’t help but want the best for. I also really liked her Aunt Bella, and wow there was a bit of a soap opera going on with the family. This really was a book about embracing life and living every single day to its fullest. A book about second chances and learning to love not only another but yourself again. A perfect escapist read. I could feel the sun, smell the food, and hear the wildlife. A lovely vacation in a book. So pull up your beach chair, grab the sunscreen, and spend the day poolside escaping into this exotic romance.

Montauk by Nicola Harrison @NicolaHAuthor @StMartinsPress @MacmillanAudio #bookreview #audiobook #Montauk

Happy Friday y’all!

Excited to share with you today my review for this delightful story that transported me to 1938 Montauk! Another wonderful debut, this has really been a great year for debuts!🤩

My Thoughts

sᴜɴ. sᴀʟᴛ. sᴀɴᴅ. ᴍᴏɴᴛᴀᴜᴋ.

Nicola Harrison completely captivated me with this dazzling tale set against the backdrop of 1938 Montauk Long Island. The story had a great sense of place and time. You really got a good handle on the role of women and the class divide in the late 1930s. Sometimes a character would do or say something that would make me cringe and I had to put it in perspective and realize this was a different place and time. This was a romance with a historical setting rather than historical fiction with some romance. Beatrice is a strong smart savvy woman who finds herself in a loveless and childless marriage. Excited and a little hesitant to spend her summer on Montauk Beatrice is hopeful to rekindle things with her husband. When she finds out that he will only be spending the weekends with her she is less than thrilled how is she going to pass her time with these women that she has nothing in common with? Fortunately Beatrice befriends Dolly an older and wiser woman and Elizabeth a local who does laundry for the hotel. Beatrice finds herself more drawn to the locals and the natural beauty of Montauk rather than the socialites and the glitz. When she meets Thomas the lighthouse keeper there is an instant attraction. He is kind and caring and authentic the complete opposite of Beatrice‘s husband Harry. As the summer goes on Beatrice realizes that she is going to need to choose between a life of luxury and true love.

Beatrice was such a likable character I really wanted her to find her happily ever after even if she was technically cheating. Her husband was unfaithful, inattentive, and a misogynist, so I guess I gave her a bit of a pass. I could also see why she was drawn to a simpler life in this charming fishing village rather than trying to position herself all the time in society. Her friend Dolly was such a breath of fresh air. She was so spunky, so ahead of her time, and such a great support to Beatrice. And the hats! Oh the hats! Elizabeth was also a great character a little quieter but just as supportive. The romance in the story was so sweet and tender, I could really sense the chemistry between Thomas and Beatrice. The ending to the story really took me by surprise, and I’m still not quite sure what to think. In the audiobook there was an interview with the author at the end and she said that she always knew that was how the book was going to end. This book is the perfect addition to your summer reading plans. A little romance. A little glamour. A little history. And a whole lot of goodness.

🎧🎧🎧 Erin Bennett narrates the audio and really brings life to the story. Bringing a voice to the character of Beatrice who this entire story is told through the eyes of. In the author interview on the audio Nicola Harrison mentions that she hears the characters voices in her head as she is writing. I thought that was so interesting and how exciting it must be for an author to hear their story brought to life through audio.

*** thank you so much to St. Martin’s Press and Macmillan Audio for my copy of this book ***

About the Book

Montauk, Long Island, 1938.
For three months, this humble fishing village will serve as the playground for New York City’s wealthy elite. Beatrice Bordeaux was looking forward to a summer of reigniting the passion between her and her husband, Harry. Instead, tasked with furthering his investment interest in Montauk as a resort destination, she learns she’ll be spending twelve weeks sequestered with the high society wives at The Montauk Manor—a two-hundred room seaside hotel—while Harry pursues other interests in the city.
College educated, but raised a modest country girl in Pennsylvania, Bea has never felt fully comfortable among these privileged women, whose days are devoted not to their children but to leisure activities and charities that seemingly benefit no one but themselves. She longs to be a mother herself, as well as a loving wife, but after five years of marriage she remains childless while Harry is increasingly remote and distracted. Despite lavish parties at the Manor and the Yacht Club, Bea is lost and lonely and befriends the manor’s laundress whose work ethic and family life stir memories of who she once was.
As she drifts further from the society women and their preoccupations and closer toward Montauk’s natural beauty and community spirit, Bea finds herself drawn to a man nothing like her husband –stoic, plain spoken and enigmatic. Inspiring a strength and courage she had almost forgotten, his presence forces her to face a haunting tragedy of her past and question her future.
Desperate to embrace moments of happiness, no matter how fleeting, she soon discovers that such moments may be all she has, when fates conspire to tear her world apart…

The Bride Test by Helen Hoang @HHoangWrites @BerkleyPub #bookreview #thebridetest

Happy Hump Day!!!

So excited to share with you today my review for this delightful book that published yesterday! If you like sweet romances with fantastic characters and lots of heat this one is perfect for you!💕

My Thoughts

Sweet. Steamy. Diverse.

So over this past weekend I read both The Kiss Quotient and The Bride Test. Helen Hoang completely stole my heart with her delightful characters and enchanting storylines. The Bride Test was so charming it read like a fairytale, a more diverse much steamier fairytale. I like my romances with strong males and sassy females and this book checked both those boxes off. I also like my romances to be more than just a romance (if you know what I mean) and this one definitely was that! Miss Hoang has a new fan in me, I will absolutely read anything she writes.

Once upon a time… Khai, Who is on the autism spectrum was convinced he could not love. His mom was convinced he could, so she traveled to Vietnam to find her son a wife. Esme was a hard-working single mom. When Khai’s mother runs across Esme working as a maid in a hotel she knows that she is the ONE. So Esme boards a plane to America to seduce the prince, oh I mean Khai. BUT will Khai learn to love? And what will happen when Esme’s secrets come out? Will these two be able to conquer the cultural differences, the language barriers, Khai’s fears and live happily ever after? You’re going to need to read this to find out!

Both Khai and Esme were delightful characters that I completely adored.Esme was so spunky and sassy and I found her strength admirable. Khai, I really had a soft spot for him he was so vulnerable, it was tough to watch him struggle with certain things so much. The chemistry between these two was off the charts, they were definitely physically attracted to one another. This book has a lot of sizzle, steam,. and heat. If that’s not your thing I’d skim those parts, because this is a book not to be missed. I’d also suggest you read the authors note at the end it was so interesting how so much of this book related to her own life, a definite tribute to her mother. I like the trend toward more diverse books, but sometimes it seems a bit forced. This was a perfect example of a diverse book done extremely well. I cannot wait to see what Miss Hoang has in store for us next, might I suggest Quan’s story.😉

About the Book

Khai Diep has no feelings. Well, he feels irritation when people move his things or contentment when ledgers balance down to the penny‚ but not important emotions, like love. His family knows better – that his autism means he just processes emotions differently. When he steadfastly avoids relationships, his mother takes matters into her own hands and returns to Vietnam to find him the perfect bride.
As a mixed-race girl living in the slums of Ho Chi Minh City, Esme Tran has always felt out of place. When the opportunity arises to come to America and meet a potential husband, she can’t turn it down. Seducing Khai, however, doesn’t go as planned. She’s hopelessly smitten with a man who’s convinced he can never return her affection.

Bridesmaids by Zara Stoneley @ZaraStoneley @rararesources #bookreview #bridesmaids

Happy Tuesday afternoon all!

Busy day on the blog today, apologies for flooding your inbox! I have another delightful romcom for you, another perfect spring read! Thanks again to Rachel for my invitation to the tour!💐

Bridesmaids

Meet Rachel, the beautiful bride with BIG plans for the perfect day! The venue is a castle and the dress is designer. It’s just a shame her husband is a rat.

Maddie and Sally have only one thing in common – they both love the same man!

Beth is a newly single mum with a mystery baby daddy. Surely the father isn’t someone the girls all know?

And then there’s Jane, the glue holding them all together, but being dumped doesn’t make her the happiest bridesmaid…especially with gorgeous flatmate Freddie complicating things.

Will the bride say, ‘I Do!’? Or will her bridesmaids save the day…and find love along the way?

The most hilarious, feel-good rom com of the year!

My Thoughts

A hilarious story packed with romance, friendship, and loads of drama!

Zara Stoneley has written another entertaining book that will make you laugh. An uplifting story full of likable real characters living realistic relatable lives. I don’t know about you, but the weather starts to get warmer and I start migrating towards a fun romcom with a gorgeous cover, rather than a dark thriller. This book is certainly the perfect spring time read.

Jane is dumped the night of her hen/bachelorette party via text. Her ex fiancé’s reason for the breakup? He just wasn’t feeling it. Really? Ugh first you break up by text and then you have the worst reason ever, I was so annoyed for Jane! What a douche! The good news… Jane is clearly better off. When Jane’s old friend Rachel asks her to be a bridesmaid she’s not quite sure about the timing, but she can’t say no. What follows is a hilarious and drama filled tail. A group of old friends with plenty of secrets and complications are gathered together to help celebrate Rachel‘s big day.

Jane was a great character and I loved the friendship between these girls. It was so true of groups of girlfriends that have a lot of history, you could never really tell who like to, but you knew they would all be there for one another no matter what. There was a lot going on in this book. But I think my favorite relationship in the book was that between Jane and Freddie. Where can I find myself a Freddie? anyone? They all do live happily ever after, and it certainly was a lot of fun watching them get there!

Author Bio –

Zara Stoneley is the USA Today bestselling author of The Wedding Date.

Born in a small village in the UK, she wanted to be a female James Herriot, a spy, or an author when she grew up. After many (many) years, and many different jobs, her dream of writing a bestseller came true.

She writes about friendship, dreams, love, and happy ever afters, and hopes that her tales make you laugh a lot, cry a little, and occasionally say ‘ahhh’.

Zara now lives in a Cheshire village with her family, a lively cockapoo called Harry, and a very bossy (and slightly evil) cat called Saffron.

Zara’s bestselling novels include ‘No One Cancels Christmas’, ‘The Wedding Date’, ‘The Holiday Swap’, ‘Summer with the Country Village Vet’, ‘Blackberry Picking at Jasmine Cottage’ and the popular Tippermere series – ‘Stable Mates’, ‘Country Affairs’ and ‘Country Rivals’.
