The New Guy by Kathryn Freeman **Book Review** @rararesources

Happy weekend all!

Hope you are all doing well! Starting to settle into the “new normal”. This was the perfect little escape a sweet romance with a swoon worthy hero! 😳

The New Guy

Sam Huxton doesn’t do one-night stands, especially not with men she’s just met! But the hot guy at the bar was hard to resist and their one night together is one she’ll never forget.

But one night is all they share – no names, no numbers, just some much needed fun…

Until the same guy walks into Sam’s life the next day as her new employee.  Sam never mixes business with pleasure and makes it clear an office fling with Ryan is off-limits.  But after-hours…one thing can lead to another. Can Sam trust her heart and her business with the new guy?

My Thoughts

Well this book was sunshine on a cloudy day! The perfect escape from all the coronavirus news, social distancing, safer at home orders, and the politics. Kathryn Freeman has written a delightful story that made me swoon and smile. Once upon a time Sam and Ryan meet at a bar. Both of them have had a little too much to drink, both of them are a little lonely, and both of them are certain that they will never meet again. There is a definite attraction, but there nothing alike, so one night of great sex is all that there is in the plans. That is until… dun dun dun Ryan shows up at Sam’s work the next day and is her new employee. *awkward* Sam is NOT going to have another office relationship, been there, done that, have the T-shirt. So even though Sam is still crazy attracted to Ryan and as she gets to know him better he becomes more and more attractive, she is keeping her distance. I’m sure you know where this is going… that truly is the comfort of romance you always know no matter what the journey there will always be a happily ever after.

Both Sam and Ryan were likable characters although they both frustrated me many times. They both had some major insecurities that they needed to get a major grip on. I also really liked the secondary characters especially Sam and Ryan‘s coworkers. I have to give a special shout out to Lucas loved his wit and wardrobe! This was the feel-good story that I really needed to brighten my day.

The Magnollia Sisters by Alys Murray **Book Review** @bookouture

TGIF!

So ready for the weekend! This was such a sweet small-town romance with such a gorgeous setting!🌷

My Thoughts

A sweet small town love story. Flowers, family, friendship… This was a fun feel good enemies to lovers romance with a gorgeous flowery setting. Harper enjoys her small-town life working aside her sisters on the family flower farm. When Luke blows into town prepared to do whatever it takes to give his little sister Annie the perfect wedding he and Harper immediately clash. Annie wants to get married on the farm, but Harper immediately gives this idea the kibosh. No amount of money good make up for the disruption to the farm that this would cause. Luke however is not deterred and strikes a deal with Harper‘s father that he will work the farm in order to offset the anticipated disruption. What follows is a sweet story of push and pull, give and take, filled with fun and banter.

This was an easy breezy delightful read. I loved the beautiful setting and the strong family ties. Loved Harper’s bond with her sisters and Luke and his little sister Annie’s bond as well. I also loved the friendship that develop between Harper and Annie. However I have to say Annie seems like a very reasonable person that probably would be OK if big brother Luke told her she could not have her wedding on this farm. I thoroughly enjoyed the time I spent with these characters and I am hoping that there will be more in store for us from them.

About the Book

Harper Anderson has a to-do list longer than the Colorado river, and fields of tulips to tend to at her family’s flower farm in Hillsboro County, California. It’s her dream to run the business with her sisters when their father retires, keeping up traditions that began with her great-great-grandmother.

That is, if there’s a farm left to run. Rich out-of-towners looking for a slice of country living are hiking up the prices in town and it’s putting her family out of business. So she has no time for the arrogant LA tech mogul who makes her an offer to use their farm as his sister’s wedding venue. No amount of money could make up for the destruction it would wreak on next season’s crop. The sooner Luke Martin is on his way, the better.

But Luke isn’t willing to go. He’s been looking out for his sister ever since their deadbeat parents left them to fend for themselves, and he’ll do whatever it takes to make her happy. So when Harper’s newest farmhand leaves her in the lurch, he sees an opportunity to strike a deal. He’ll work on the farm for free if she’ll give him the chance to change her mind.

Harper and Luke each expect the other to crack first. What they don’t expect is the chemistry that sparks between them as they work side by side among the budding roses. But Luke’s presence is turning over more than the earth, and just as Harper is starting to let her guard down, he stumbles upon a secret that could spell disaster for the entire Anderson clan.

With her family’s happiness at stake, can Harper put her trust in a man who is worlds apart from everything she knows?

An emotional, spellbinding story about family, first impressions and the transformative power of love. Fans of Susan Mallery, Debbie Macomber and Carolyn Brown will be carried away by The Magnolia Sisters.

From Thailand With Love by Camilla Isley **Book Review** @rararesources

Happy Monday all!

Do you like a lot of adventure with your romance? Then this is the book for you! I was pleasantly surprised by how much I loved this romance with an Indiana Jones vibe to it!🐵

From Thailand with Love

All Logan has to do is to get the gold and get the girl. Easy, right?

Travel photographer Winter Knowles and archeology professor Logan Spencer dislike each other at first sight. Stuck together on a wild island, these two unwilling teammates will bicker and banter their way through a laugh-packed treasure hunt.

After years of searching, a new mapping technology has given Logan a clue to the location of the legendary Lost City of Gold. A discovery that could make his career. So the last thing he needs on this life-changing expedition is for his team to get distracted by a pair of long legs.

When Winter accepted the assignment on a tropical island she didn’t sign up for a brooding team leader who’d clearly prefer to run a boys-only club. Never one to back down from a challenge, Winter is ready to show him she’s no damsel in distress.

But when a treasure like no other is uncovered and ruthless enemies will want to keep it for themselves, it’ll be up to the two of them to save the day. Left alone to fight in the jungle, they will soon discover their lives might not be the only thing at stake—their hearts could be too.

Get ready for the adventure of a lifetime.

A fun read packed with danger, action, romance, and comedy.

From Thailand with Love is part of a series of interconnected romantic comedies but can be read as a standalone novel as all the other books in the First Comes Love series.

My Thoughts

An adrenaline pumping, heart pounding, action packed romance.Adventure, Romance, monkeys, secret cities, hidden tunnels, treasure, machetes, mercenaries, mud, insects, rescues, and humor. Wow Camilla Isley this was unexpected! This was so much more than a enemies to lovers romcom. The story starts off innocently enough Winter catches Logan chasing after a monkey who has confiscated his phone. Oh and did I mention that Logan was naked? Then Winter finds out that she will be spending the next month working with Logan, who seems less than pleased. Logan is an archaeologist and Winter is a travel photographer, they will be traveling through the jungles of Thailand looking for a lost city of gold. The story had my heart racing as Logan and Winter fought to survive. This book was very heavy on the adventure, but I have to say I was all in. Winter was a bad ass and Logan wasn’t too bad either. Even though I didn’t always feel the chemistry between them, I think it kind of develop organically and by the time they got together it really worked. Another winner in this fun series and I’m really looking forward to the next one!

The Cottage on Wildflower Lane by Liz Davies **Book Review** @rararesources

Happy Thursday everybody!

It is a gorgeous day the perfect day to share with you my thoughts on this lovely story with a springy title! 💐

The Cottage on Wildflower Lane

Esther’s life isn’t perfect (whose is?) – but she’s happy enough living in her little flat with her boyfriend, Josh.

But that’s about to change.

Bored out of her mind in work, she wishes that something, anything, would happen to liven her life up.

Unfortunately, her wish comes true when Josh calls her from the airport to tell her he’s going to work in a bar in Spain, and she’s not invited, Esther is devastated, and her unhappiness is compounded when she discovers she can actually view the bar via a webcam link and watch him chatting up other girls.

But when she inadvertently clicks on a link to another webcam which shows a pretty cottage and the rather hunky man who lives in it, her interest is piqued and she wishes she could get to know him.

Wishes don’t really come true, though – do they…?

My Thoughts

This was such a sweet, charming, and feel good story! Esther gets dumped by phone by her tool of a boyfriend. He calls her from the airport to tell her not only is he leaving her but he is leaving the country to go to Spain and work in a bar. When Esther goes online to find the website for the bar she also stumbles across a WebCam with a live feed inside the bar. So Esther does what we all would probably do, tortures herself by watching her ex-boyfriend hook up with other girls. Ester becomes a little obsessed, but fortunately one time when there was a lull in the action at the bar she comes across a WebCam feed of a lovely cottage with a handsome resident. What follows is a fun story filled with coincidences, misunderstandings, charm, wit, and romance.

Such a sweet story that made me smile! Ester was a great character; I found her to be so relatable, but I really wanted to get a hold of her and talk some sense to her. I am so grateful there weren’t WebCams back in my days of heartache, I would probably be glued to the screen torturing myself just like Esther. Unlike Esther I probably would not stumble across a cute cottage with an even cuter boy who then I coincidentally end up working for. This was the perfect little afternoon romantic escape.

Author Bio –

Liz Davies writes feel-good, light-hearted stories with a hefty dose of romance, a smattering of humour, and a great deal of love.

She’s married to her best friend, has one grown-up daughter, and when she isn’t scribbling away in the notepad she carries with her everywhere (just in case inspiration strikes), you’ll find her searching for that perfect pair of shoes. She loves to cook but isn’t very good at it, and loves to eat – she’s much better at that! Liz also enjoys walking (preferably on the flat), cycling (also on the flat), and lots of sitting around in the garden on warm, sunny days.

She currently lives with her family in Wales, but would ideally love to buy a camper can and travel the world in it.

When Adam Met Evie by Giulia Skye @rararesources *Book Review*

Happy Thursday friends!

Have you ever been to Australia? Well I have not, so it was lots of fun traveling there through the pages of this book. 🐨

When Adam Met Evie

When former Olympic Swimmer, Michael Adams—now Canada’s hottest reality TV star— insults his fake showbiz wife on social media, he escapes the ensuing scandal and jumps on the first flight to Australia. Desperate to experience ordinary life again—if only for a few weeks—he becomes “Adam”, just another tourist traveling through the Outback. But with a reward out for his safe return and his fame’s nasty habit of catching up with him when he least expects, he needs a better disguise… and he’s just found it.

Sweet and scruffy British backpacker, Evie Blake, is taking a year out of her busy London life. Tired of lies and liars, she’s looking for adventure to heal her broken heart. So when the hot Canadian she meets at the campground offers to be her travel partner through Western Australia’s wild Kimberley region, she grabs the chance, unaware he’s got the world out looking for him.

He’s just a down-on-his-luck traveler, right?

My Thoughts

Romance and a road trip. Once again I went traveling through the pages of my book, this time to Australia. Giulia Skye has written an entertaining and refreshing romance with a little steam. Michael Adams is a famous Canadian Olympic swimmer who escapes to Australia to flee the paparazzi. Evie lives in England and was planning to take a trip of a lifetime with her partner, but he bailed on her so she decides to take the trip on her own. The two of them have a meet cute (sort of) and then decide to travel the Australian wild together. Not wanting to be recognized Michael introduces himself as Adam and Evie is none the wiser. What follows is an engaging story combining romance and travel.

I had fun with this book, I enjoyed traveling along with Adam and Evie. I also enjoyed waiting for the shoe to drop, you know eventually it’s going to come out that Adam has been lying and I kept wondering what Evie‘s reaction was going to be. Evie was such a warm hearted sweet girl you did not want her to get duped by Adam. But Adam seemed like a good guy who just got caught up in a bad situation? But lying is lying. For a while I was wondering if there’s any chance they could actually end up together? I mean not only was Adam lying, but the two of them lived across the world from one another. A sweet story that made me smile!

Excerpt

Chapter Two

While the Blackberry Island Inn restaurant offered break¬fast and lunch, it didn’t serve dinner…except on alternate Wednesdays when the doors were opened for a traditional fried chicken supper. Sophie had been told by the nice lady at the front desk, and two women who had come by to “take a look” at the warehouse, that it was a do-not-miss event.

After confirming that Amber and Heather could make it, Sophie had made reservations for three. The restaurant didn’t have a liquor license, so she’d swung by one of the local tasting rooms to pick up a bottle of chardonnay and returned to the inn in time to meet Heather and Amber in the main reception area.

Sophie saw Heather first. The twenty-year-old held the front door open for her mother. Sophie had heard about Amber’s car accident, but hadn’t expected her to be using a cane or walk-ing so slowly.

Other than that, Amber looked much as she always did. A little rumpled, with a disapproving expression. Her hair was a medium brown, nearly the same shade as Kristine’s, but without the pretty highlights. Heather was taller than all of them, with hazel eyes, instead of the brown the cousins shared. Sophie al¬ways figured Heather had inherited the color from her father—a rodeo cowboy who, according to Amber, had seduced her into a one-night stand that had left her pregnant and with a ruined life.

On second thought, maybe she should have only invited Heather to dinner.

The wishful thinking made her smile as she hurried forward to greet them.

“You’re back!” Heather hugged her close. “I’m so excited to see you and hear about the business. I can’t wait to see the ware¬house you rented. It’s so exciting.”

Amber’s hug was less enthusiastic. “I can’t believe how far the parking is from the front door. I should have made my doctor give me a handicapped sign so we could have parked closer.”

“Mom, I let you off at the front door, then went and parked.”

“Where I had to stand by myself, waiting for you.” Amber rolled her eyes.

“You’re here now,” Sophie said, touching Amber’s arm, knowing the best way to handle her was to defuse the situation as quickly as possible. “Thanks for joining me for dinner. Shall we go get our seats?”

Amber set a snail’s pace that made Sophie instantly antsy. She distracted herself by linking arms with Heather.

“How’s school? Do you still have forty-seven jobs?”

“I took my last final yesterday. I should be able to see my grades anytime now. I only have three jobs.”

“You’re such a hard worker,” Sophie said. “You’ve been work¬ing since you were what, twelve? You must have a lot of money saved. Good for you.”

Heather looked at her mother then away. Sophie felt an in¬stant uptick in the tension between mother and daughter and wondered how she’d managed to step in it during the first three minutes of the conversation.

“The warehouse is huge,” she said, hoping to change the topic to something more neutral. Normally, she wasn’t bothered by the emotions of those around her but lately she was more sen-sitive to what everyone was feeling and that was a serious drag.

“It’s nearly double the square footage of what I had before. There’s less office space, but that’s okay. I don’t need that many employees and if necessary I guess we could easily frame in a few offices. I’ll have to see.”

“Because you’re too successful?” Amber asked, her tone more annoyed than playful. “Poor Sophie, overwhelmed by how glo¬rious it all is.”

“Mom! She had to move because her business burned down,” Heather said. “We’re glad she’s back but it’s not as if she moved by choice.”

“I’m okay,” Sophie said brightly. “Or I will be. It is a little hard, dealing with everything. A lot of work.”

They reached the restaurant and were quickly shown to a table with a view of the water. A sailboat caught the wind as it headed toward the setting sun on the horizon. The hostess handed them a slim piece of paper.

“The menu is fairly simple,” she said, waving at Heather. “You can order two, three or four pieces of chicken, along with two sides each. There’s a choice of cobbler for dessert. Your server will be by shortly to take your order and open the wine.” She smiled. “Heather, iced tea for you?”

“Just water’s fine, Molly.”

“A friend of yours?” Sophie asked, thinking they looked to be about the same age.

“I waitress here in the morning. They’re always busy and the tips are great.”

Sophie wrinkled her nose. “I’m sorry. I didn’t know you worked here. I could have picked a different restaurant. You must be tired of their food.”

“I know I am,” Amber said with a sigh. “The same thing, every morning for breakfast.”

Heather visibly stiffened. “I didn’t know you felt that way, Mom. I always get the special, whatever it is. I’ll stop bringing you breakfast after my shift.”

“There’s no need to do that,” Amber told her. “I can make do.”

Heather’s expression was unreadable. She turned to Sophie. “Believe me, the chicken dinner is a real treat. I’ve only had it once before and it was delicious.”

“When did you have dinner here?” Amber asked sharply. “I didn’t know that. I never get to go anywhere.”

“You’re here now,” Sophie said quickly as she waved the menu. “Yummy. All the sides look delicious.”

“I can’t believe they only have cobbler for dessert.” Amber sighed. “I wanted pie.”

They were rescued by the server’s appearance. She opened the wine and poured two glasses, then brought water for Heather and biscuits for the table.

A Love Hate Thing by Whitney D. Grandison @harlequinbooks @harperaudio #bookreview

Happy Thursday all!

Well January is flying by! Today I have a review for a book that really was kind of a love-hate thing.

My Thoughts

Whitney D. Grandison has written a compelling debut. This was kind of a mash up of the friends to lovers/enemies to lovers trope. Tyson Trice has just gone through a major tragedy and the loss of his beloved Pops. Five months away from turning 18 he goes to live with old family friends who live in an affluent area of Southern California. When they were little Trice and Mandy were the best of friends, but now Mandy is not quite certain of Trice because of his background. You don’t need to be a rocket scientist or a romance aficionado to figure out where this one’s going. Even though this story was predictable and somewhat clichéd I still enjoyed the story.

Trice, (Who prefers to go by his last name rather than his first name, because he was named after his father) was a lovable sympathetic character. Although he was constantly contradicting himself, there were some definite conflicts between his words and his actions. Then there was Mandy, what a spoiled entitled princess she was. I grew up in Southern California somewhere between these fictional cities of Linderwood and Pacific Hills. This is such a diverse checkerboarded area that I really doubt anyone would automatically assume someone was a “thug“ just because they were from a bad neighborhood. Well that is with the exception of dear Mandy. Even though we were constantly told what a sweet person she was I never saw that through her actions. I honestly thought Trice could’ve done much better for himself, possibly with her best friend. But I guess the heart wants what it wants. The story was told from both characters perspectives and I really got quite annoyed when I was in Mandy’s head. While I appreciated the diversity in the story I thought occasionally it was a bit stereotypical. I guess this is all to say I’m a little conflicted on this one. On one handI thought the characters were very vivid and well drawn, but on the other hand I really was not rooting for this couple. I was definitely wanting the best for Tyson, but I could’ve cared less what happened to Mandy. So I guess the title is super appropriate, it was kind of a love-hate thing!

🎧🎧🎧 The audiobook was narrated by Adenrele Ojo and Barrie Buckner. I thought both these narrators did an outstanding job and really added the perfect voice to these characters (even that Mandy).

About the Book

When they’re stuck under one roof, the house may not be big enough for their hate…or their love.

When Tyson Trice finds himself tossed into the affluent coastal community of Pacific Hills, he’s ready for the questions, the stares, and the feeling of not belonging in the posh suburb. Not that he cares. After recovering from being shot and surviving the mean streets of Lindenwood, he doesn’t care about anyone or anything. He doesn’t even care how the rest of his life will play out.

In Pacific Hills, image is everything. Something that, as the resident golden girl, Nandy Smith knows all too well. She’s spent most of her life building the pristine image it takes to fit in. After learning that her parents are taking in a teen boy, Nandy fears her summer plans, as well as her reputation, will go up in flames. It’s the start of summer vacation, and the last thing Nandy needs is some juvenile delinquent from the ’Wood crashing into her world.

Stuck together in close quarters, Trice and Nandy are in for some long summer nights. Only, with the ever-present pull back to the Lindenwood streets, it’ll be a wonder if Trice makes it through this summer at all.

Zapata by Harper McDavid @tlcbooktours

Happy Christmas Eve Eve!

are you ready? Can’t believe the big day is in two days! Excited to share with you today my review for this romantic suspense that really did it right!

My Thoughts

Harper McDavid’s debut is raw and gritty, romantic and suspenseful. The brutally honest and authentic storytelling along with the Real look at the Mexican cartel reminded me a lot of the In the Company of Killers series by J. A. Redmerski. This is romantic suspense done right! The perfect balance of romance and suspense, neither detracting from the other. Avery is an engineer, a job on the Mexican border is the ticket to moving up the job ladder. Soon she finds herself in the crossfire of a war between Mexican drug cartels. This leads to her being kidnapped by the crazy drug lord Javier. In order to free herself Avery has to trust in Alejandro who she knows nothing about. Not to mention that they do not speak the same language. What follows is a tense pulse pounding game of cat and mouse. This book really read like a movie. The story was action packed as Avery and Alejandro try to evade the cartel. Miss McDavid doesn’t pull any punches and that makes this a highly engaging, entertaining, and exciting read.

About Harper McDavid

As a child, Harper McDavid watched her mother ride the rollercoaster of writing books, swearing she’d never do it herself. But some things are just hardwired, and luckily for Harper the world has moved on beyond typewriters and ten-pound manuscripts.

Harper’s gritty romantic suspense incorporates her own background in science and engineering and work experience along the border. The result is a collection of brainy hard hat-wearing heroines that occasionally swap out their coveralls for the little black dress.

Harper is the mother of three daughters and lives in the foothills of Colorado with her husband, two dogs, and a fat cat. Her free time is spent traveling the world in search of that next story and perusing her local library for funny book covers.
