A Love Hate Thing by Whitney D. Grandison @harlequinbooks @harperaudio #bookreview

Happy Thursday all!

Well January is flying by! Today I have a review for a book that really was kind of a love-hate thing.

My Thoughts

Whitney D. Grandison has written a compelling debut. This was kind of a mash up of the friends to lovers/enemies to lovers trope. Tyson Trice has just gone through a major tragedy and the loss of his beloved Pops. Five months away from turning 18 he goes to live with old family friends who live in an affluent area of Southern California. When they were little Trice and Mandy were the best of friends, but now Mandy is not quite certain of Trice because of his background. You don’t need to be a rocket scientist or a romance aficionado to figure out where this one’s going. Even though this story was predictable and somewhat clichéd I still enjoyed the story.

Trice, (Who prefers to go by his last name rather than his first name, because he was named after his father) was a lovable sympathetic character. Although he was constantly contradicting himself, there were some definite conflicts between his words and his actions. Then there was Mandy, what a spoiled entitled princess she was. I grew up in Southern California somewhere between these fictional cities of Linderwood and Pacific Hills. This is such a diverse checkerboarded area that I really doubt anyone would automatically assume someone was a “thug“ just because they were from a bad neighborhood. Well that is with the exception of dear Mandy. Even though we were constantly told what a sweet person she was I never saw that through her actions. I honestly thought Trice could’ve done much better for himself, possibly with her best friend. But I guess the heart wants what it wants. The story was told from both characters perspectives and I really got quite annoyed when I was in Mandy’s head. While I appreciated the diversity in the story I thought occasionally it was a bit stereotypical. I guess this is all to say I’m a little conflicted on this one. On one handI thought the characters were very vivid and well drawn, but on the other hand I really was not rooting for this couple. I was definitely wanting the best for Tyson, but I could’ve cared less what happened to Mandy. So I guess the title is super appropriate, it was kind of a love-hate thing!

this book in emojis. 📱 💰 📓 🎵 🏖

🎧🎧🎧 The audiobook was narrated by Adenrele Ojo and Barrie Buckner. I thought both these narrators did an outstanding job and really added the perfect voice to these characters (even that Mandy).

*** Big thank you to Harlequin and Harper Audio for my gifted copy of this book. All opinions are my own. ***

About the Book

When they’re stuck under one roof, the house may not be big enough for their hate…or their love.

When Tyson Trice finds himself tossed into the affluent coastal community of Pacific Hills, he’s ready for the questions, the stares, and the feeling of not belonging in the posh suburb. Not that he cares. After recovering from being shot and surviving the mean streets of Lindenwood, he doesn’t care about anyone or anything. He doesn’t even care how the rest of his life will play out.

In Pacific Hills, image is everything. Something that, as the resident golden girl, Nandy Smith knows all too well. She’s spent most of her life building the pristine image it takes to fit in. After learning that her parents are taking in a teen boy, Nandy fears her summer plans, as well as her reputation, will go up in flames. It’s the start of summer vacation, and the last thing Nandy needs is some juvenile delinquent from the ’Wood crashing into her world.

Stuck together in close quarters, Trice and Nandy are in for some long summer nights. Only, with the ever-present pull back to the Lindenwood streets, it’ll be a wonder if Trice makes it through this summer at all.

Zapata by Harper McDavid @tlcbooktours

Happy Christmas Eve Eve!

are you ready? Can’t believe the big day is in two days! Excited to share with you today my review for this romantic suspense that really did it right!

My Thoughts

Harper McDavid’s debut is raw and gritty, romantic and suspenseful. The brutally honest and authentic storytelling along with the Real look at the Mexican cartel reminded me a lot of the In the Company of Killers series by J. A. Redmerski. This is romantic suspense done right! The perfect balance of romance and suspense, neither detracting from the other. Avery is an engineer, a job on the Mexican border is the ticket to moving up the job ladder. Soon she finds herself in the crossfire of a war between Mexican drug cartels. This leads to her being kidnapped by the crazy drug lord Javier. In order to free herself Avery has to trust in Alejandro who she knows nothing about. Not to mention that they do not speak the same language. What follows is a tense pulse pounding game of cat and mouse. This book really read like a movie. The story was action packed as Avery and Alejandro try to evade the cartel. Miss McDavid doesn’t pull any punches and that makes this a highly engaging, entertaining, and exciting read.

*** Big thanks to the author for my gifted copy. ***

Meet Me On Love Lane by Nina Bocci @tlcbooktours @gallerybooks #bookreview

Happy Thursday y’all!

There really is nothing better than a small town sweet romance! I fell in love with this small Pennsylvania town in the first book and I love it even more after the second one!💜💜💜

My Thoughts

This was such a fun and sweet small-town romance. Nina Bocci sure can weave together a heartwarming story. This is the second book in the Hopeless Romantics series, but it can absolutely be read as a standalone. Although I bet after reading this you’ll want to read the first book won’t want to miss Emma and Cooper’s story. When I first got this book I thought what a gorgeous cover! And then I read the blurb and thought, oh no love triangle, not really my thing. Luckily this really wasn’t much of a love triangle, there is an obvious clear winner. There are just a few obstacles in the way, The biggest ones being time and distance. Charlotte has returned home to small town Pennsylvania after some bad luck in NYC. Charlotte left the small town abruptly when she was 10 and her parents got a divorce. Now she is back and Hope Lake is not quiet what she expected and she can’t remember everything that happened here all those years ago. She definitely doesn’t remember Henry who was apparently her BFF when they were kids. As charlottes memories come back her feelings for Henry grow but this is only temporary, isn’t it?

I was super excited that Henry got his own story, I totally adored him in the first book. He is a guy you would want your best friend or your daughter to date, just a super good guy with a huge heart. Charlotte seem to be the perfect match for him and it really did get frustrating at times how long it took these two to figure things out. This was primarily because this book was so much more than a romance, it really was about Charlotte rediscovering herself and where she truly belonged. There are so many strong female bonds in this book, charlottes bond to her friends Emma and Parker. Also charlottes bond to her grandma Gigi who is one of the most spectacular characters ever! It also was about the bond between mother and daughter, and the impact that charlottes mother‘s mental illness had on Charlotte. I liked how the character’s mental health in the story was addressed and made to seem normal (for lack of a better word). At one point Charlotte and her father were talking about therapy, and I believe she said everyone needs to talk to somebody at some point, and I think this is very true. The story ends with a bang (literally there were fireworks) and a promise of a stellar third book in the series!

*** Big thanks to Gallery for my copy of this book ***

About the Book

From the USA TODAY bestselling author of On the Corner of Love and Hate comes a romantic comedy about a woman who grudgingly returns home to small-town Pennsylvania, only to find herself falling in love—not only with the town, but with two of its citizens.

Charlotte Bishop is out of options in New York City. Fired, broke, and blacklisted by her former boss, she’s forced to return to her hometown of Hope Lake, PA to lick her wounds. Although she’s expecting to find a miserable place with nothing to do, she is pleasantly surprised to discover it is bustling and thriving.

She’s only supposed to be in Hope Lake temporarily until she can earn enough money to move back to New York. She’s not supposed to reconnect with her childhood friends or her beloved grandmother. She’s not supposed to find her dream job running the local florist shop. And she’s definitely not supposed to fall for not one but two of Hope Lake’s golden boys: one the beloved high school English teacher, the other the charming town doctor.

With a heart torn between two men and two cities, what’s a girl to do?

A perfect blend of humor and heart, Meet Me on Love Lane is the second in a new series from USA TODAY bestselling author Nina Bocci that is sure to charm fans of Josie Silver and Sally Thorne.

Lake Season by Denise Hunter @tnzfiction @tlcbooktours #bookreview

Hello Friends!

This romance lover term thriller lover has recently gone back to her roots. I have read so many amazing romances lately making me really remember why I love the romance genre!😍

My Thoughts

A heartwarming story that will put a smile on your face and an extra flutter in your heart. When I discovered that Denise Hunter has written several books that have been made into Hallmark movies I was not surprised. Her descriptive writing and vivid characters really brought this book to life. Not to mention it was so full of family, heart, love, and hope. Molly and her siblings Levi and Haley have recently lost their parents. Determined to keep their parents dreams alive they will do what it takes to turn there run down home into an Inn. One of their first guess is Adam. Adam is sweet and helpful and a little awkward. He is also the best selling author Nathaniel Grey but this is something that only his agent and his best friend know. When Molly discovers a old letter in the wall that never was sent Adam and she decide to bring some closure to the recipient. Will this bring Adam and Molly closer together? And what will happen when his secret comes out?

The romance between Molly and Adam was so sweet. Although it did take them some time to figure it out! I also loved the relationship between all the siblings, they really were so there for one another. This is a series so I’m assuming they will each get their HEA. The secondary story involving the letter really added so much texture to the book. Something I really loved was that there is a crazy coincidence in this book and it was completely addressed. So often in Books there are some things that seem way too unlikely to be coincidental, but in the case of this book they just put it out there and I really appreciated that. If you enjoy a sweet clean romance this one’s for you!

About the Book

A lost letter, a new love, and old secrets beckon this summer at the Bluebell Inn.

When their parents die in a tragic accident, Molly Bennett and her siblings pull together to fulfill their parents’ dream: turning their historic Bluebell, North Carolina home back into an inn. The situation would just be temporary—three years at the most—then they would sell the inn and Molly could get back to chasing her own dreams.

Adam Bradford (aka bestselling author Nathanial Grey) is a reclusive novelist with a bad case of writer’s block. Desperate for inspiration as his deadline approaches, he travels to the setting of his next book, a North Carolina lake town. There he immediately meets his muse, a young innkeeper who fancies herself in love with his alter ego.

Molly and Adam strike up an instant friendship. When Molly finds a long-lost letter in the walls of her inn she embarks on a mission with Adam to find the star-crossed lovers and bring them the closure they deserve. But Adam has secrets of his own. Past and present collide as truths are revealed, and Molly and Adam will have to decide if love is worth trusting.

Christmas at the Château by Lorraine Wilson @rararesources #bookreview

Happy Thursday!

This week went fast! I’ve read so many wonderful books I got so much done, and still I have so much more to do!’tis the season to be busy!🎄

Christmas at the Château

A Christmas she’ll remember forever…

Poppy is looking forward to spending her first Christmas in France at her boyfriend, Leo’s, Château. And as the snow falls softly around the dramatic castle, Poppy can’t think of anything more magical.

There are new traditions to discover, a cosy Christmas market to explore and best of all, a promise of secret treasure hunt from gorgeous Leo. Only family pressure and uncertainty about her future in France can threaten to cast a shadow over the holiday.

When the treasure hunt takes an unexpected turn Poppy knows for sure this is one Christmas she’ll remember forever.

My Thoughts

This story was short, sweet, festive, and French! A small book with a big heart! This is the second book in the French Escape series and although I think it could be read as a standalone I think I enjoyed it more because I had read the previous book. Poppy and Leo met and fell in love in the first book. Now it is Poppy’s first Christmas in France and she is filled with holiday cheer and insecurities. It’s like she can’t believe that Leo actually loves her, this did get a little tedious but I get it. Despite her insecurities Poppy is such a fun and whimsical character. I loved all the emails between her and her BFF and mom back in the UK. The treasure hunt was loads of fun. And the dogs still were as adorable as ever! The perfect book to curl up with on a lazy afternoon with a cup of hot chocolate and your furry friend by your side.

Stealing Kisses in the Snow by Jo McNaly @harlequinbooks @tlcbooktours #bookreview #HarlequinBooks #readlovebemerry

Happy Wednesday all!

Delighted to share another festive sweet and heartwarming romance with you all! This was a wonderful clean romance that made me smile!💚❤️

My Thoughts

This was such a sweet heartwarming festive Romance! Jo McNally created such vivid characters, I feel as though I would know them if they were walking down the street. The setting was so charming. An old inn, a pink house, and a small town, yes yes and yes! This was a romance, but it was also so much more. The book really focused in on family dynamics and how grief impacts the family and how the different members of the family move on from it. Piper is a single mother of two, Lily a precocious four-year-old and Ethan a somber 14-year-old. Piper is starting over, working at this charming inn and has just purchased her own home. Her focus is on her children and she is certain there is no room in her heart for a man, she is still grieving the loss of her husband who died over three years ago. Logan, motorcycle driving tattooed bad boy arrives in town to help out with his grandmother’s inn. Logan is a Ramblin man never settling down in one place too long, he certainly does not have room for a single mother of two in his life. So what happens when two people who have no room for love fall in love? A lovely clean romance filled with love, family, and holiday cheer!

This book in emojis. ❄️ 🎄 👩‍👧‍👦 💑

About the Book

It’s Christmas in Rendezvous Falls, and love’s waiting to be unwrapped….

Single mom Piper Montgomery’s plate is full. Between her two adorable kids, two jobs, and a fixer-upper house, she’s so busy she can hardly see straight. But when rugged biker Logan Taggart strolls into the inn where she’s working, she can’t help but stare. He has bad boy written all over him. And with two kids relying on her, that’s the last thing she needs this Christmas.

Rendezvous Falls is nothing but a pit stop for Logan. Once his grandmother is back on her feet and ready to reclaim the inn, Logan can get back on the road. It’s where he belongs, even if his grandmother’s matchmaking book club try to convince him otherwise. Still, there’s something about beautiful spitfire Piper that makes him wonder if family and forever might just be what he needs after all.

But as the holidays draw ever closer, so do Piper and Logan. Could these polar opposites find that all they want this Christmas is each other?

Excerpt

Stealing Kisses in the Snow by Jo McNally

“What…oh my god… I can’t believe… I…”

Logan chuckled. “Breathe in and out. Nice and slow. It’s okay.”

“It’s not okay! I just…you just…” She stared down at the floor. He had a feeling she was working herself into a panic. “I can’t believe I just did that. In the attic. I’m so sorry. You must think I’m…”

“Hey.” Laughter gone, he stepped forward and gently tugged her hands from her face. “Look at me, Piper.” He waited until she finally looked up. His chest tight¬ened. Was that shame he saw in her eyes? “Neither one of us has a damn thing to apologize for. The moment was right, and we took it.”

“I’m a mother.”

“You’re a woman.”

She threw her hands up. “Yes, I know. People keep reminding me!”

He cupped her face in his hands and smiled. “If I did my job right, you should be a very satisfied woman right now.”

She huffed out a nervous laugh. “You did your job very well, Logan. But I can’t believe I let that happen. In the middle of the afternoon! I mean, what if…”

He lowered his head and kissed her to stop the panic attack she was trying so hard to have. Judging from the way she pressed up onto her toes to kiss him back, she wasn’t objecting. His arms slid around her, cupping her buttocks and pressing her against his hardness. He raised his head and looked into her eyes. Eyes full of invitation. And hesitation.

“What if what, Piper? What if someone comes all the way up to the attic and finds us? What are the odds of that happening? There are only two rooms booked, and you know damn well those two women are more interested in each other than whatever we’re up to. And they told me at breakfast they were heading south to the museum in Corning. We won’t be seeing them until tonight, especially in this weather.” He kissed her again. He was losing all good sense and He. Did. Not. Care. “You just said your kids are gone for a few days. Iris sure won’t be interrupting us.” Another kiss. “It’s the first real snowstorm of the season, and the odds of anyone just dropping by are pretty slim. So if you want me to do that thing again…” He slid his hand down her behind and gave it a squeeze.

She dropped her forehead against his chest and shook it back and forth. “This is crazy. We can’t…”

“We can. If we want to.”

He waited. Not patiently, but he waited. He wouldn’t make a move without knowing that she was fully on

board. She was still looking down, head against him, talking to their feet.

“I want to. But Logan…it’s been…years. I’m afraid I’ll be needy. Or frantic. Or just really rusty.” He wanted to argue, but she had to work this out for herself. “A lot of my what-ifs are about me. What if I freak out? What if I’m not good at it anymore? What if I really like it? I still have two children. This isn’t being responsible…” Not liking the direction her self-talk was taking, he put his fingers under her chin and lifted it so he could look her straight in the eye when he spoke.

“I want you to be needy.” The corner of her mouth twitched upward as he spoke. “Frantic is good, too. I think you just proved you’re not rusty. If you freak out, we’ll stop. And the fact that you have two kids doesn’t stop me from getting a hard-on every time I look at you.”

She laughed at that, as if shocked at his admission. He knew how she felt—it was a shock for him, too. Her voice steadied.

“So…what exactly are we talking about here?”

Logan wasn’t sure how they’d gotten to this place, but holy hell. He was holding Piper Montgomery in his arms, ready to drop to his knees to beg her to have sex with him if he thought it would work. In the middle of a snowy afternoon. He didn’t want to wait for tonight. He didn’t want to wait until they left the attic, but it was a little chilly up here for what he had in mind. He traced his fingers across her cheek.

“We’re talking about you and me spending the af¬ternoon having guilt-free, worry-free sex. Like the two adults that we are.”

My Christmas Fake Fiancé by Linda West @rararesources #bookreview

Happy happy Tuesday!

One of my absolute favorite tropes is enemies to lovers. Add in some holiday cheer and I am a happy girl. This was another delightful Christmas read!

My Christmas Fake Fiance

Snowflakes are falling on Kissing Bridge Mountain, and Devlin is going home at last. But he can’t go home without a fiance, even if it has to be a fake one! When he meets smalltown girl, Allie, who has a Christmas crisis of her own -they strike up a deal. Soon, the fickle snow flurries of fate send them down a destined road they never expected…

My Thoughts

Enemies to lovers. Fake relationship. Christmas time. What more could a girl ask for? This was such a delightful sweet romance full of humor, heart, and hope. Allie was such a fun character, the girl had me laughing practically from page 1. Allie is heartbroken when she finds out her childhood home is up for sale in order to save the family business. She is determined to save her childhood home no matter what it takes. This leads to her teaming up with billionaire Devlin. Allie is an environmentalist and despises everything that Devlin’s big business stands for. But then she finds herself headed home with Devlin for the holidays, and that is when all the fun begins!

Allie and Devlin are great together. Even though the outcome is predictable I really enjoyed the getting there. The large cast of quirky characters, the holiday vibes, the lovely setting, it all kind of had a fairytale feel to it and would make an excellent Christmas movie. Not to mention it all takes place in a place called Kissing Bridge, that name alone makes me smile! A sweet clean romance reminiscent of a Hallmark movie.

All Fired Up by Lori Foster @harlequinbooks #bookreview

Happy December!

Where in the world did November go? This is such a sweet steamy and suspenseful romance, that any romance lover will love!❤️

My Thoughts

This was such a sweet, steamy, and suspenseful story. This is the third book in the series and works well as a standalone, however I wish I had read the previous books prior. Family plays such an important part in this book and I would have really appreciated really understanding and knowing the brothers in this book a little better. The book kicks off with Charlotte having car trouble and Mitch helping a girl out. There is a connection between the two when they meet, but it is complicated. Charlotte has been living with a family that treats her like their own, and Mitch has come to town looking to meet his half brothers technically making him part of this family. A tricky relationship to navigate. Also Midge has a bit of a past that seems to be catching up with him. A definite slow build will they? Won’t they?

I have to say the family in this story was fantastic my favorite part of the book. Loved this family, the mom was amazing and I loved how much all of these brothers cared for one another. They accepted Mitch so willingly and protected Charlotte so fiercely. Although occasionally they frustrated me with how much they were protecting Charlotte from Midge, but I understood. My only tiny complaint is the suspense in the story didn’t necessarily add much to the book. I would’ve probably liked more family time and more time with Charlotte and Midge together. All in all a sweet romance that made me smile.

*** Big thanks to Harlequin for my copy of this book ***

About the Book

He’s tantalizing trouble she can’t resist….

Charlotte Parrish has always wanted a certain kind of man: someone responsible, settled, boring. Bad boys need not apply. But when her car leaves her stranded and a mysterious stranger with brooding eyes and a protective streak comes to her rescue, she can’t deny how drawn she is to him. In town searching for family he’s never met, Mitch is everything she never thought she wanted – and suddenly everything she craves.

Finding his half-brothers after all these years is more than Mitch Crews has allowed himself to wish for. Finding love never even crossed his mind…until he meets Charlotte. She’s sweet, warmhearted, sexier than she knows – and too damn good for an ex-con like him. But when his past comes back to haunt him, putting Charlotte – and the family he’s come to care for – in danger, Mitch isn’t playing by the rules. He’s already surrendered his heart, but now he’ll risk his life.
