Until the Day I Die by Emily Carpenter @EmilyDCarpenter @AmazonPub @LUAuthors #bookreview #untilthedayidie

Happy Tuesday bibliophiles!

Excited to share with you today my review for this outrageous thriller that I absolutely loved! This was a buddy read with Kenzie and I’m so happy she talked me into giving this author a shot!💫

My Thoughts

this was an entertaining thriller packed with twists, turns and delights!

Emily Carpenter will take you on a wild and crazy ride in this outrageouss thriller! This is one of those books where you just need to throw believability out the window and settle in for a deliciously indulgent story. I mean it is called fiction for a reason, and sometimes it is nice just to escape reality and have some fun! This book is definitely over the top and will cause some eye rolling, but I loved… EVERY! SINGLE! MINUTE!

Shorie is heading to Auburn university, and is less than thrilled about it. She is still grieving for the loss of her father and would rather stay home and work for the family company Jax. Jax is a hugely popular app that monitors your spending and keeps you on budget as well as on task. Erin, Shorie’s mom is insisting that she go to college, she is also deep in grief and contemplating selling the company. The problem is the company’s other partners aren’t too keen to sell, and Erin has been acting irrationally lately. After Erin shows up to a frat party on Shorie’s first night at Auburn seemingly drunk, she is rushed off to rehab/restoration in the Caribbean. Meanwhile Shorie has discovered some anomalies at Jax and is determined to find out what is going on. What transpires is a whirlwind of action that will keep you quickly flipping those pages!

The story bounces between two storylines told from Shorie and Erin’s perspectives. Admittedly I was instantly drawn into Shorie’s story while it took me a little more time to get into Erin’s mess. However, once Erin sets foot into that lush creepy rehab/restoration center I was hooked. The characters were well drawn, the plot was perfectly paced, this was just a good time fun read. Recommend!

About the Book

From the bestselling author of Burying the Honeysuckle Girls comes a riveting novel about a mother and daughter separated by grief, secrets, and a conspiracy that threatens to destroy their lives.
If there’s a healthy way to grieve, Erin Gaines hasn’t found it. After her husband’s sudden death, the runaway success of the tech company they built with their best friends has become overwhelming. Her nerves are frayed, she’s disengaged, and her frustrated daughter, Shorie, is pulling away from her. Maybe Erin’s friends and family are right. Maybe a few weeks at a spa resort in the Caribbean islands is just what she needs to hit the reset button…
Shorie is not only worried about her mother’s mental state but also for the future of her parents’ company. Especially when she begins to suspect that not all of Erin’s colleagues can be trusted. It seems someone is spinning an intricate web of deception – the foundation for a conspiracy that is putting everything, and everyone she loves, at risk. And she may be the only one who can stop it.
Now, thousands of miles away in a remote, and oftentimes menacing, tropical jungle, Erin is beginning to have similar fears. Things at the resort aren’t exactly how the brochure described, and unless she’s losing her mind, Erin’s pretty sure she wasn’t sent there to recover – she was sent to disappear.

Coming to you Today!

About the Book

‘I will never forget the night I drowned…’

Seventeen-year-old Eleanor Parker wakes up cold and alone in the river that twists through her quiet village. She remembers a hand on her chest, another on her head, water in her throat, those final gasps for air…

Her brother’s girlfriend was drowned in the same river the summer before, held under the water by an unknown killer.

Determined to unlock the mystery of what really happened that night, Eleanor can’t escape the feeling that something terrible links her to the previous summer’s murder. But will she discover the shocking truth, before it’s too late?

A gripping and extraordinary coming of age novel that will keep you guessing until the very end.

My Thoughts

4.5 Bewitching Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

This was a young adult thriller with a paranormal twist and it was brilliant! I’d like to encourage you to read this book with an open mind and the understanding that not everything in this book is “believable“… because the only way it is possible for somebody to investigate their own murder is for there to be a supernatural element… requiring us the reader to stretch our imagination…. for me this just was the perfect shift making an ordinary story extraordinary!

17-year-old Eleanor wakes up on a river bank with no memory of how she got there… is she dead? Is she alive? Is she a ghost? People can see her, she can walk, she can talk… but she cannot smell, taste, feel, and she is oh so cold… now Eleanor is determined to figure out what happened the night before she ended up in the river and who tried to kill her… and will they try again?

Eleanor was such a likable character… I loved playing detective right along with her, everyone was a suspect… her boyfriend, her best friend, her brother, the guy working at the local diner… I must give a special S/O to that diner love the idea of a wall filled with cassette tapes…. antique cassette tapes… ugh makes me feel old!

This truly is a genre defying book that I strongly encourage you to give a try! This was one of the best young adult books I’ve read this year and the uniqueness and supernatural element of the story should really appeal to a broad audience of younger readers…. I also need to give Kerry Wilkinson major props… as a grown man he did a phenomenal job of writing a book from a female teenager’s perspective… I certainly hope this is not his last young adult book, because I for one am looking forward to many more!

Absolutely recommend to readers of all ages, this was a well-done thriller with a unique twist!

4.5 Mind Blowing Stars🤯🌟 Believe Me by J P Delaney #JPDelaney #BookReview #PubDay

Happy Publication Day to this enthralling psychological thriller!

Thrilled to share with you today my review for this unique and dark thriller that I could not put down!

My Thoughts

4.5 Mind Blowing Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟.5

WOW! What a crazy ride this book was! This book sucked me in from the very first page… and after it tossed me around and turned me on my head it spit me back out and left me spinning…. Claire I might need to crown you the most unreliable narrator of them all! Bravo! J P Delaney for writing such a unique and twisted thriller!

Claire is a struggling British actress living in New York without a green card… so what’s a girl to do? Claire being resourceful and an actress begins working for a divorce lawyer and becomes a decoy… trapping cheating husbands and making enough money to pay the bills, all seemeds good until… One of the wives she was working for ends up murdered… don’t even want to say anything else about the plot, because this is a journey best gone into blind…

This was an enthralling story that left me not trusting anybody! I thought it was so uniquely told I loved the script aspects… I loved all the psychology and the criminal profiling… The poetry discussed in this book will probably resonate with others more than me… poetry not my thing, to be honest I didn’t even know this was a real poet… color me ignorant! This was a group read and fortunately my fellow sisters were kind enough not to make me feel stupid when I excitedly told them that Baudelaire was a real live poet!🤦‍♀️

You do need to suspend belief for parts of this book and just go with it… but BELIEVE ME it is so worth it! The twists in this book they keep coming… this was a wild ride I was sad to have to get off of!

Strongly recommend to all fans of a well-done unique psychological thriller that will blow your mind🤯

*** many thanks to Valentine Books for my copy of this book ***

If you want the real 411 on the poet Baudelaire please visit one of my book Besties’ blog Mackenzie @PhDiva… she actually studied this poet in college in French, And I didn’t even know he was a real person! But to be fair I was a Kinesiology major! I know where your hamstring is!😂

About the Book

A struggling actor, a Brit in America without a green card, Claire needs work and money to survive. Then she gets both. But nothing like she expected.

Claire agrees to become a decoy for a firm of divorce lawyers. Hired to entrap straying husbands, she must catch them on tape with their seductive propositions. The rules? Never hit on the mark directly. Make it clear you’re available, but he has to proposition you, not the other way around. The firm is after evidence, not coercion. The innocent have nothing to hide.

Then the game changes.

When the wife of one of Claire’s targets is violently murdered, the cops are sure the husband is to blame. Desperate to catch him before he kills again, they enlist Claire to lure him into a confession.

Claire can do this. She’s brilliant at assuming a voice and an identity. For a woman who’s mastered the art of manipulation, how difficult could it be to tempt a killer into a trap? But who is the decoy . . . and who is the prey?

Enjoy the day! Berit☀️✨

The Flowerpot Witch by Wendy Steele @WendyWooauthor @rararesources #BookReview #BlogTour

Thrilled to be part of the blog tour for this paranormal book with a twist… many thanks to Rachel for the invitation and to Wendy Steele for this most magical book!✨✨

The Flowerpot Witch

The Flowerpot Witch (A Wendy Woo Witch Lit Novel Book 3)

Lizzie Martin has chosen pottery to be her new career…

But the teacher from hell threatens to thwart her ambitions before she starts.

She has support from her best friend Louise and Evan, another pottery tutor, but Rowan, her fifteen year old daughter is restless, Josh, her ex-husband is colluding with her aunt and though her mother is alive, access to her is forbidden. When The Morrigan appears in her sacred circle, Lizzie knows she has a battle on her hands.

There is hope though.

Stardust the chicken brings a new creature into Lizzie’s life and a long awaited meeting with her Aunt Matilda brings Lizzie’s past into perspective.

Lizzie’s magic ventures beyond The Sanctuary, into the Welsh landscape and the realms of the fae.

My Thoughts

This was a compelling read full of magic and heart… I must admit I was expecting something much more lighthearted based on the cover, but after I got over that I found this book quite intriguing… this book is also the third in this Witchlit series… I did not read the first two books in the series and I do feel as though I missed out on a little bit, and I spent quite a bit of the first part of this book trying to figure out exactly who was who and what was going on…. so my recommendation is to start at book one…

Lizzie was an outstanding character, I really loved her… she was such a generous giving person with a heart of gold… she would do anything to help out those she loved and even those she didn’t love all that much as well…. I also was delighted that she had such an amazing and supportive BFF in Louise, always love those strong female relationships in Books! Also liked the relationship between Lizzie and her daughter, it was so real and relatable, especially if you have ever had a teenage daughter… also completely related to Lizzy’s relationship with her ex, LOL!

There are all kinds of complicated issues going on between Lizzie and her family and the family dynamics… sometimes I had more questions than answers, but I think in the end I had everything figured out, and it left me wanting more! If I have time I’d love to go back and read the first two books in this series, just so I get a better handle on what exactly is going on… I truly found this book most interesting and magical!

Recommend for fans of the paranormal with a bit of a twist, this is unlike any book you have read before, guaranteed!

Review

This book will require you to stretch your imagination … leave all the questions at the door… and just enjoy the ride…. this was a fast paced, plot driven, implausible book…. I truly believe this would make a better movie than it did a book, it was just so over-the-top, and so unbelievable…..

This is not to say I did not enjoy it, I did….. however I did spend a lot of the book a little lost…. I also spent a lot of this book wondering why these characters are even in this situation in the first place? Why in the world would Carl pick a strange woman up in the middle of the night and insert her into their lives… and put his wife and unborn baby in danger? I really had a hard time connecting with any of the characters, with perhaps the exception of Katie who I felt so bad for…. here she is pregnant caught in the middle of this madness….

This book was cray cray… all these characters running around doing outrageous things…. everyone was up to something and none of it good…. not absolutely certain what I think of the ending….. this book just didn’t quite hit the mark for me, but it might for you!

Recommend if you are able to suspend reality for an entire book, filled with fast-paced thrills…..

*** thank you to the publisher and Net Galley for a copy of this book ***

Suspend some disbelief and enjoy,
